Clan with a Thousand Skills - Hashirama, Tobirama, Touka
[for better resolution open in separate tab]
Star Wars AU ~~ Dark Jedi Tobirama
Once an avid student of the Jedi Temple and a powerful Jedi Master, personal tragedy and dissatisfaction with what the light side of the Force had to offer had Tobirama turn to the dark side of the Force, to gain its power and to understand and explore it. He does not shy away from its crueler aspects, but rather finds himself revelling in the power it offers him.
He does not follow the Sith, because he deems their approach to the Force as much too esoteric and emotional, and has no desires of building an empire for himself - he merely follows his own agenda of protecting his last remaining brother - no matter the cost or the sacrifice.
What intrigues him the most, though, are the rumors of a Sith lord, who could undo death with the power of the Force. If he learned this technique, would he be able to bring his lost brothers back?
While Tobirama tries to regain the brothers he has lost, Hashirama tries to keep the brother he still has left.

A timeline of Mei’s rise to Mizukage
[4th SWW = 4th Shinobi World War]
Premises:
The actual power in the Land of Water/Kirigakure lies with the Mizukage, the Daimyo is more of a figurehead for the other Daimyos, than an actual ruler.
A parallel to this in the real world may be the relationship between Shogun and Emperor in historical Japan, where the Emperor officially appointed the Shogun, but the Shogun held the actual power over the country, mostly by military force.
(-) 29 years before Naruto’s birth [46 years before 4th SWW]:
Ao is born into Kirigakure’s lowest caste, his parents are both farmers
(-) 17 years before Naruto’s birth [34 years before 4th SWW]:
Hoshigaki Kisame is born into Kirigakure’s highest caste (the Hoshigaki were a central clan in the founding of Kirigakure)
(-) 14 years before Naruto’s birth [31 years before 4th SWW]:
Terumi Mei is born into Kirigakure’s highest caste
Momochi Zabuza is born into Kirigakure’s lowest caste
(-) 6 years before Naruto’s birth [23 years before 4th SWW]:
3rd Shinobi World War begins (lasts five years)
Ao (23), is a part of Kirigakure’s ANBU corps and makes a name for himself fighting in the war, gaining the Byakugan by killing a Hyuga shinobi
(-) 5 years before Naruto’s birth [22 years before 4th SWW]:
Mei (9) graduates from Kirigakure’s academy
Zabuza (9) graduates from Kirigakure’s academy
(-) 4 years before Naruto’s birth [21 years before 4th SWW]:
Kirigakure’s weak economy due to the ongoing war leaves the Land of water destabilized; in search of a scapegoat, the focus shifts to Kekkei Genkai users of the lowest caste, who are accused of purposefully damaging Kirigakure’s economy and conspiring with enemy nations in an act of revenge because of their low standing despite their bloodline
after several isolated hate crimes against people with bloodlines, the killing of clan shinobi becomes more widely practiced, propaganda is issued throughout Kirigakure against Kekkei Genkai users
(-) 3 years before Naruto’s birth [20 years before 4th SWW]:
Yuki Haku is born into Kirigakure’s lowest caste
(-) 2 years before Naruto’s birth [19 years before 4th SWW]:
The destruction of Kannabi Bridge turns the war in Konoha’s favour
Chojuro is born into the middle caste
(-) 1 year before Naruto’s birth [18 years before 4th SWW]:
Isobu is sealed in Nohara Rin as Kirigakure’s last big war effort, Rin commits suicide via Kakashi’s Chidori
Peace talks between Konohagakure and Iwagakure lead to an end of the war by the end of the year, Minato is appointed 4th Hokage
Isobu is re-sealed into Karatachi Yagura
(+) 2 years after Naruto’s birth [15 years before 4th SWW]:
Haku (5) is orphaned after his father kills his mother for possessing a bloodline
Zabuza (16) gains a position in Kirigakure’s ANBU corps
(+) 3 years after Naruto’s birth [14 years before 4th SWW]:
Zabuza (17) finds Haku (6) and takes him as his student
(+) 4 years after Naruto’s birth [13 years before 4th SWW]:
Yagura (at an unknown age) becomes Mizukage, after the 3rd Mizukage dies under mysterious circumstances (the 3rd Mizukage was already a staunch supporter of the killing of Kekkei Genkai users and supported the practices of the Bloody Mist)
(+) 5 years after Naruto’s birth [12 years before 4th SWW]:
Kaguya clan attacks Kirigakure; Yagura retaliates, spreading the attacks to clans even from higher castes (who were before that viewed as loyal to Kirigakure)
Yagura declares a state of emergency in Kirigakure on the basis of the Kaguya attack, drastically restricting voting rights, right of assembly and freedom of press, and replacing Kirigakure’s council with a military government
The Daimyo is supportive of Yagura, since he views Kekkei Genkai users as extremely dangerous (as told by Yagura’s supporters, who control the Daimyo’s court)
Mei (19) survives the massacre of her clan; she is found by Ao (34) who has the task of looking for and eliminating survivors of the attacks, Ao at this point is rather disillusioned with Kirigakure, but follows his Mizukage’s orders because he sees no other future for himself
[up until the day her clan was attacked Mei was a shinobi serving Kirigakure, even though she started doubting the Mizukage and his goverment earlier; but she hadn’t found the right motivation to go against him yet, feeling relatively secure in her high social standing]
Mei manages to get Ao on her side, Ao keeps up his work as a hunter nin, but uses his position to find allies for Mei, who is in hiding on the outskirts of the Land of Water
Mei recruits her former team-mate Zabuza (19) for her rebellion, after he essentially defected from Kirigakure (easy, since they have no registration system)
(+) 6 years after Naruto’s birth [11 years before 4th SWW]:
Kisame (23) kills Suikazan Fuguki and is commended for it by Yagura, leaving him disillusioned with Kirigakure
(+) 9 years after Naruto’s birth [8 years before 4th SWW]:
Zabuza (23) defects from Mei’s (23) rebellion, since it isn’t going fast enough for him; he thinks they could already take on the Mizukage and his forces, while Mei thinks it’s wiser to stay in hiding for longer; he takes a portion of his supporters within the rebellion with him
(+) 10 years after Naruto’s birth [7 years before 4th SWW]:
Zabuza (24) stages his coup d’etat and fails to assassinate 4th Mizukage Yagura, he consequently has to flee Kirigakure/the Land of Water
(+) 12 years after Naruto’s birth [5 years before 4th SWW]:
Team 7 takes the mission to the Land of Waves and kills Zabuza (26) and Haku (15)
(+) 13 years after Naruto’s birth [4 years before the 4th SWW]:
On New Year’s eve (December 31st of 12th year/January 1st of 13th year after Naruto’s birth) Mei starts an open revolution with taking over provinces on the edges of the Land of Water, she is met with little to no resistance as Yagura’s hold on these provinces isn’t as strong as his hold on Kirigakure; the population of the Land of Water is not really supportive of Yagura’s bloody reign, but too afraid of him to stand up against it (high taxes, fear of imprisonment/torture etc.)
By summer Mei and her supporters are closing in on Kirigakure
Mei (27) stages the final act of her coup in Kirigakure and with Ao’s (42) help manages to kill the 4th Mizukage
[Mei’s rebellion: 8 years of guerilla warfare and assassinations of Yagura’s supporters, interrupting supply lines to Kirigakure, foiling attacks against kekkei genkai users and adversaries of Yagura and the Daimyo’s rule]
Later that year Mei is inaugurated as Mizukage after an election, meeting big support not only among her fellow rebels but also among Kirigakure’s general populace, who are tired of the near-civil war state Kirigakure’s been in ever since the Kaguya clan attacked; being from the highest caste gives her a position of power amongst traditionalists, who did not support Yagura fully, but were proponents of the caste system; she needs their support (even though she doesn’t like it, and because it feels like she’s betraying Ao) to establish her rule over Kirigakure
She appoints a council again, with members of all castes, civilians and shinobi alike, which is a rather hard task after eight years of having a military government
Her first laws, after she has consolidated her position, include a relaxation of the caste system, which loses her the support of Kirigakure’s traditionalists but gains her more support than ever among the middle and lowest caste, who are the largest part of Kirigakure’s populace
(+) 14 years after Naruto’s birth [3 years before 4th SWW]:
Chunin exams in Konoha
Mei has been Mizukage for about 8 months now, her position is still somewhat precarious due to Yagura’s supporters plotting to take back control of Kirigakure
Ao, next to his job as Mei’s advisor, is tasked with finding left-over traditionalists and supporters of Yagura for trials and imprisonment
I took, like, all the liberties with Yagura’s age, since it was never stated. In canon he looks like he’s 13, but he somehow managed to have a grandson, so he couldn’t have been that young. Maybe he used a Transformation Technique like Tsunade to keep up his youthful appearance.
Also I’d like to point out that, while obviously finding some motivation in creating a safe space in her home country for herself, Mei is not primarily motivated by revenge, but the genuine wish to change Kirigakure for the better, after its failures became apparent to hrr, and to bring peace to her war-torn country - by force, if necessary. Keep in mind, she’s a shinobi not an angel.
(also I just like the image of her as a kick-ass revolutionaire, but shhh 🤫)
Ao’s injuries and medical devices: some thoughts
@saengak, I’ll just tag you, because this is way too much for an ask 😂
Starting with the simpler things:
I think that the amputation of his left leg was traumatic (in the sense that it was already amputated by a rock or something by the time they started his medical treatment) and they just formed a stumpf fit for a prosthesis with the remains of his lower leg.
On his right arm and leg there are several deep abrasions and lacerations and some broken bones, but they could fix that relatively easily with plate osteosynthesis and the likes. Though due to the sheer area of damaged skin, he has to take his skincare quite serious, since scar tissue is by far not as functional as normal skin.
His left arm is a surprise tool that will help us later. It was severely damaged but not amputated by the time they started surgery, but due to the extensive damage to the skin, the subcutaneous tissue and the bones (like, imagine a 100 piece puzzle in the x-ray, if they even use x-rays lmao) they decided to amputate the arm above the damaged cubital joint in order to have enough healthy tissue to form a well-vascularized stump for a prosthesis.
Now on to his head:
Obviously the Byakugan was lost, since the eyeball itself is pretty sensitive. The right outer ear is also pretty much gone, just like the auditory ossicles, resulting in conductive hearing loss in his right ear, but since they were able to reconstruct the external acoustic meatus, this can be helped by wearing a hearing aid (that’s what the microphone-like slits in the piece over the ear are for, I imagine).
But that plate covers much more of his face than his ear and his eye, so I think that there was much more damage to his head, namely to the zygomatic bone, which they could fix with a plate, and to the parietal bone, which resulted in an epidural hemorrhage.
Since the skin was damaged as well as the skull, giving the blood a way out, his intracranial pressure didn’t increase dramatically enough to produce major brain damage. It “only” slightly damaged the area of the right precentral gyrus/primary motorcortex, which controls the movements of his left hand, but since that is gone, he does not show typical symptoms of upper motor neuron syndrome (like weakness and spasticity of the limb in question), but it makes the chakra control of the prosthesis just much harder.
(I might add that I think, that neuronal motor control and chakra control are definitely connected, but don’t correlate 1:1.)
To relieve the pressure on the brain after an epidural hemorrhage you usually open the skull via trepanation, but I think they were just practical and used the hole that was already there, just cutting off some more of the bone for a clean edge and obviously cleaning it from debris etc.. Afterwards, with the hemorrhage subsiding and brain pressure back to normal, they use a plate to fix the skull, hence the large area covered by the plate on his face/head.
Now, the grand finale: that chest thingy.
I think, especially with how much of his right thorax is covered up by it, there was very very extensive damage to his right thorax - luckily sparing his heart but probably absolutely obliterating his right lung.
Those two circles on the chest plate look kind of like air vents to me, so: this is a device to replace his lost right lung.
My thoughts on the procedure are the following (obviously fantasy, but drawing on some techniques used in coronary bypass surgery):
- they ligate the artery and veins connecting the right lung and the heart
- they create an artificial capillary bed for gas exchange, with those two vents forming an artificial blood-air-barrier
- since the gas exchange depends on a partial pressure gradient, so if they manage to build a functional BAB it will probably not completely replace the lost lung, but give him more possibilities than he would have with just the remaining left lung
[- Oxygen partial pressure in the air is about 157 mmHg at sea level, while a normal mixed-venous oxygen partial pressure is ~40 mmHg, which means oxygen enters the blood stream
- Carbon dioxide partial pressure in the air is about 30 mmHg at sea level and about 46 mmHg in venous blood, meaning carbon dioxide exits the blood stream]
- they connect the pulmonary trunc/right pulmonary artery using the great saphenous vein of his right leg (usually bypasses made with arterial instead of venous vessels are more durable, but they have to make do - beggars can’t be choosers after all)
- using the remaining parts of his right internal thoracic artery and the left radial artery, that they could salvage from his amputated arm, they connect the capillary bed to the right pulmonary veins and thus to the left atrium
- he does need to be careful with too much physical exertion though, even after everything is fully healed, since this artifical gas exchange device does not have the same properties as a fully functional lung, which means that a greater cardiac output (e.g. during strenuous activitied) cannot be compensated by passive vasodilatation in the artifical capillary bed as a real lung could (since all of the blood that’s pumped through the body, must also go through the lungs in the same amount of time, even though the lungs are much smaller, the vessels of the lung have to be super stretchy, which those artificial vessels and the repurposed veins/arteries are not to that extent)
(- this could also lead to some right ventricular hypertrophy, since the ‘pulmonary’ vascular resistance would be higher than before)
-> over all I like to think that with enough physical therapy (and some serious psychotherapy) Ao would have a quite decent quality of life, once he learns to work around and with the new limitations and possibilities of his body 👍
My goodness. Are you a med student/doctor?? Because those are some awesome (and highly technical) headcanons right here. I love the concepts!! XD Thank you for elaborating in such detail. I have just enough of a background in biology to get the gist of what you’re saying but also not enough to fully understand either hahaha. But it’s great to venture into biology again.
@timethehobo you might be interested in this as well!
I especially like the part about neuronal motor control and chakra control being correlated. I had been thinking of something similar, i.e. about how his injuries would have caused an inbalance between his physical and spiritual energies, which lead to (potentially dangerous) loss of chakra control. Hence, during rehab he might have been required to be chakra suppressed, which would have worsened his mental state. Angst!
It would also be interesting to consider how his chest missiles would fit in with his artificial gas exchange device, and how it would impact the device’s capacity to exchange O2/CO2. Everything would be all squished up in there. He may be tall but there’s only so much space in his chest XD
Edit, because I am clearly unable to type numbers: CO2 partial pressure is 0.3 mmHg at sea level
I mean, if we’re going with the theory that his lung is basically gone, I’d say there is quite some space in there, like not unlimited, but larger than you’d think. Though how you’d reload them…? Maybe they were designed to be like the real last ditch effort, to keep him from dying (-> killing his enemies) and he’s just a little lax with doctor’s orders 😂.
For the neuronal/chakra control: I’d think that it’d be structured similarly to motor control. The cerebral structures take over consciously doing something, while cerebellar structures do like the subconscious part of it (maybe analogue to motor control the cerebellum gets information about chakra flow, like it gets information about muscle tension etc.).
Maybe there’s like an extra brain area that’s responsible for chakra control, which interacts a lot with the motor cortices, but is not entirely dependent on them.
Non-shinobi have it, too, but I’d say you have to “force” your brain to use it. The general amount of chakra and the amount of time you spent training your chakra control etc., will determine how good/functional the pathways from brain to body controlling chakra release are developed in you.
Maybe it’s like learning to bike: at first you have to put in a real conscious effort to even like not fall off the bike, but once you get the hang of it, your cerebellum basically takes over controlling the minor movements that keep you stable on your bike (-> this would be the real basics of chakra control, like directing chakra to certain body areas etc.), which gives your brain the capacity to perform cool tricks on your bike, that take a lot more effort than just staying on it (-> that takes a lot of training, this would be jutsu etc.)
And I’d think that it is much easier for the brain to control chakra on a higher level, when motor function and chakra control match up, but it would not be impossible - just takes a lot of patience - to re-learn using the chakra control of a limb, when you’ve lost the motor control over it.
[also some interesting videos - these are graphic videos of surgery being performed to please view with discretion :-) 1) example of a plate osteosynthesis: fixing a distal radial fracture with a T-plate 2) open heart coronary bypass using a superficial leg vein]
Ao would definitely be lax with doctors’ orders XD He’d drive Katasuke absolutely crazy just like Katasuke drives him crazy with his enthusiasm, hahaha.
I like your explanation about the division between cerebral/cerebellar structures. If losing chakra control in a limb is like forgetting how to ride a bike, that would be so frustrating!
I tried watching the first video, fast forwarded halfway through, and had to stop XD ahahaha it’s just too much for me askdjflskjg. Kudos to you for being able to handle all this, and all the best for your studies!!
I think re-learning the chakra control of his arm, when he had pretty much absolute control of it before his injuries would be a rather frustrating (if worthwhile) process.
Yes, it’s so amazing what’s going on in our brains all the time, without us even noticing!
Katasuke and Ao in combination are probably the main reason that drives nurses and physiotherapists to early retirement, let’s be real 😂
but in this handmade heaven, it’s paradise
