it  was  a  complete  tidal  wave  of  mixed  emotions,  both  being  here  in  location  UNKNOWN,  stuck  without  any  reception  and  cut  off  from  the  world  like  a  sadistically  cruel  game  of  big  brother.  but  also,  now  being  reunited  with  him.  it’s  not  a  secret  that  she  hadn’t  always  had  a  good  word  to  say  in  regard  to  her  father  uncle  john,  considering  the  fact  he  picked  his  time  to  turn  up,  bringing  with  him  bombshells.  but  now,  for  once,  after  all  he’s  done,  especially  for  her,  she’s  beyond  glad.  the  joy  that  comes  with  his  appearance,  it  presents  itself  in  forms  of  warmth,  only  reserved  for  her  family,  and  she’s  smiling  -----  trying  her  very  best  to  ignore  the  overwhelming  emotions.  oh,  she’s  had  the  worst  time  since  they  last  saw  each  other.  “  i  think  PEAK  INSANITY  -----  well,  that’s  just  the  usual  for  us  gilberts,  right  ?  ”  she  jokes,  it’s  not  a  good  one  but  she’s  trying  to  ignore  the  situation,  or  how  dire  it  is.  “  it’s  nice  to  see  you  uncle  john,  i  don’t  know  how  you’re  here,  but  it’s  a  good  thing.  that’s  the  take  away  here.  ”  she’s  holding  onto  that,  the  joy,  with  both  hands  ----  and  this  place  be  damned,  she’s  truly  stubborn,  and  won’t  give  it  up  without  a  fight.  she  isn’t  sure  what  else  to  say  ----  THANKS  FOR  SAVING  MY  LIFE,  I’M  GLAD  YOU’RE  ALIVE ??  no,  none  of  it  would  truly  fit.

the  good  thing  about  this  town  was  the  gift  of  denial,  even  among  the  uncertainty,  the  horrendous  feeling  of  being  trapped.  elena  got  the  opportunity  to  hide  from  her  indiscretions.  she  could  hide  from  how  she  felt,  just  a  little  longer.  because  the  longer  she  got  to  do  that,  the  longer  she  didn’t  have  to  admit  what  had  happened  minutes  before  she  wound  up  in  reprieve.  AND  MAYBE  SHE  LIKED  THE  PEACE  OF  THAT.  of  the  escape,  even  if  it  terrified  her.  she  got  to  simply  exist,  without  circumstances.  because  the  truth  was,  that  elena  didn’t  even  know  where  to  begin  even  if  she  did  try  to  unload  the  baggage  that  came  with  the  kiss  in  a  motel  room  with  her  current  boyfriend  -----  or  ex  boyfriend’s  brother.  she’s  pretty  sure  it  would  swallow  her  whole.

but  like  so  much  bad  luck  already  in  her  life,  time  decides  to  not  be  on  her  side.  and  it’s  decided  that  she  has  no  option  than  confronting  it.  because  across  the  street  from  her,  she  notices  him.  he’s  here  too.  sticking  out  like  a  sore  thumb,  and  how  could  she  not  notice  him?  it’s  like  he’s  taken  her  head  hostage,  giving  her  no  other  choice  than  to  think  about  him.  or  to  think  about  how  he  stirred  emotions  within  her,  and  that  those  emotions  could  be  felt  DOWN  to  her  very  bones.  it  shook  her  to  her  core  so  much  because  it  was  the  strongest  thing  she’d  felt  ever.  even  with  stefan.  and  what  did  that  make  her?  WHO  did  that  make  her?  just  like  katherine?  all  she  ever  wanted  was  to  be  set  apart  from  her,  and  yet  she’s  fallen  into  the  same  actions  ----  head  first,  in  fact.  and  she  feels  shame,  because  of  how  she’d  professed  to  never  be  like  her,  and  she  feels  shame  because  her  brother  CAUGHT  her.  and  maybe,  the  reason  she  decides  on  a  whim  in  that  very  moment  to  approach,  is  for  her  brother.  (  it’s  also  because  it’s  damon,  and  she’s  not  ready  to  acknowledge  it  yet,  but  she’s  beyond  glad  to  see  him.  that  simply  knowing  he’s  there,  it  offers  a  security  unlike  any  other.  )  she’s  heading  over,  coming  to  a  stop  just  a  few  meters  for  him,  and  choosing  to  speak  to  alert  her  presence.  “  damon. . .  you’re  HERE,  thank  god.  that’s. . . that’s  great,  did  my  brother  happen  to  hitch  a  ride  too  with  you  on  whatever  brought  us  here  ?  ”  it’s  clear,  that  she’s  being  cagey,  that  her  eyes  are  looking  everywhere  but  his.  that  she’s  trying  to  distract,  but  her  loved  ones  wellbeing?  it’s  important  to  her,  as  always.      /    @wrckhvck​    .

     SCOTT FOUND HIMSELF in the midst of the town square, the exact same place where he woke up a few days ago. something around here felt off      why was he pulled to this part of town. was he even still in beacon hills or was this some sort of parallel universe of beacon hills. he reached into his pockets to find his cell phone, dialling stiles’s number he realised that he had NO SERVICE. if only his best friends were here; he was worried about them. what happened to them ?? did they manage to get out of the armoury or did the hunters find them and killed them? he felt completely detached from them. almost as if limbs were amputated. ‘       ’ he opened & closed his mouth again when he noticed someone had been staring at him. ‘ what do you want ?? ’ he groaned at the vague figure ahead of him. 

the  hustle  and  bustle  of  the  town  would  be  a  welcome  escape,  if  she  hadn’t  noticed  the  male  and  how  he  looked  completely  vacant.  like  he  DIDN’T  quite  fit  right.  and  it  pulls  at  the  core  of  her  stomach,  a  fight  or  flight  response  that  had  been  on  high  alert  since  she  LANDED  in  this  town.  or  transported,  she’s  not  entirely  sure.  some  clarity,  that  would  be  nice.  and  so  she  can’t  help  but  stare  for  a  moment,  maybe  she  tuned  out  half  way  through,  mind  catapulted  to  her  brother,  to  damon,  to  her  friends.  and  to  what  was  going  on  back  home.  it’s  something  that  seems  to  go  on  like  a  merry-go-round  in  her  head,  even  despite  attempts  to  tune  it  out.  at  his  comment,  she’s  almost  snapping  back  into  reality,  guilty  look  on  her  features.  CAUGHT  RED  HANDED.  nothing  more  awkward  than  that.  “  uh. . .  sorry,  you  just  look  how  i  feel.  like . . .  like  you’re  NOT  supposed  to  be  here.  ”  smile  is  offered,  one  that  drips  with  sympathy,  but  it’s  NICE  to  possibly  have  met  someone  who  gets  it.

what  do  you  get  when  you  mix  an  overly  competitive  &  naturally  hot-headed  individual with  a  full  moon  approaching  in  a  few  days  ? CATASTROPHE.   from  start  to  finish,  soccer practice  has  been  hell.  he’d  gotten  into  a  fight  with  one  of  the  other  players  on  his  team  over  whether  or  not  head-butting  the  ball  into  the  goal  should  count  and  it  had  taken  THREEother  players  to  pull  them  apart.   it’s  why  he’s  riding  the  bench  now,  hands  resting  on  either  side  of  his  head  as  it  hangs  between  his  knees.   practice  is  just  about  over,  the  teams  squaring  off  for  the  point  that  will  win  the  pickup  game,  but  his  gaze  is  anywhere  but  the  field.  (  if  he’s  not  playing,  he  has  no  skin  in  the  game.   if  they  lose  without  him  —  which  he’s  pretty  fucking  sure  they  will  —   he  doesn’t  own  that  loss.  ) he  almost  doesn’t  notice  the  presence  coming  up  on  him,  though  his  gaze  doesn’t  quite  shift  over  to  them.   the  only  indication  he  saw  them  before  they  speak  is  the  slight  tick  of  his  jaw  and  the  growl  that  accompanies  it.   “  what ? ”

being  there  at  a  football  practice  for  what  is  a  possible  local  team,  it  was  an  attempt  to  try  and  distract  her  mind  from  the  BIGGER  situation  at  hand.  maybe  she  thought  if  she  closed  her  eyes,  and  listened  to  the  chatter.  if  she  found  some  kind  of  comfort  for  a  moment  in  the  vulgar  collective  of  male  energy,  she  could  fool  her  mind  into  BELIEVING  she  was  back  in  mystic  falls.  back  at  a  football  game,  hearing  matt  and  tyler  argue  over  WHAT  counts  as  a  touchdown.  or  whatever  they  had  to  argue  about  that  day,  with  the  lockwood  boy,  it  was  always  something.  and  it  does  for  a  moment  lead  her  into  the  false  security  of  easier  times,  of  a  less  hectic  place  that  she  knew  so  much  better.  she  can  even  hear  caroline’s  refusal  to  bite  her  tongue  about  someone  making  an  error  in  a  cheer  leading  team.  THIS  IS  NOT  AMATEURS  DAY  GIRLS !  and  oh,  elena  wishes  she  was  there  instead.  even  with  how  insufferable  caroline  is  in  charge.  or  how  much  she  disliked  cheer  leading  now..  at  least  then  she  wouldn’t  be  as  terrified  as  she  was  here,  with  the  unknown.  the  imagining,  it  brings  a  sense  of  peace,  even  for  a  short  moment  as  she  relishes  in  that  and  the  light  breeze.  but  it  doesn’t  last,  as  soon  as  chocolates  open,  the  chaos  returns  and  she’s  swallowing  it  down  hard.  DENY  THE  FEELINGS,  at  least  for  now  until  she  can  deal  with  them.  

it’s  then  that  she  notices  the  male,  and  decides  to  approach.  maybe,  part  of  her  is  seeking  some  kind  of  company.  a  friendly  face,  at  least  someone  she  knows  in  this  MAZE  of  a  place.  eyes  glance  to  the  males  who  have  been  bickering,  and  she  can’t  ignore  the  smile  that  wants  to  twitch  at  the  corners  of  her  lips.  there  goes  that  familiarity  again.  she  takes  a  seat  not  far  from  the  male.  “  so,  what  did  you  do  to  be  DENIED  the  grand  opportunity  of  playing ?  ”  she  questions,  and  she  notices  the  tightening  of  his  jaw,  and  it  instantly  makes  her  regret  her  decision.  THIS  WAS  NOT  SOMEONE  WHO  WANTED  TO  BE  BOTHERED.  or  company.  an  error,  on  her  part.  his  tone  itself,  says  exactly  what  she  thought,  and  she  swallows  once  again.  coughing,  to  hide  it.  “  nothing,  just  thought  you  looked  lonesome  here,  and  was  making  conversation.  but  it  doesn’t  matter.  don’t  worry  about  it.  ”  she  waves  off  what  she’d  said  instantly,  she  wasn’t  stupid.  ADDING  FUEL  TO  AN  ALREADY,  ALL  OUT  BLAZE  ?  that  would  be  a  death  wish.  she  knew  from  tyler’s  attitudes,  it  was  best  to  steer  clear.

There’s nothing. The top corner of her screen that should be showing her service bars is only showing her that it’s searching for a signal and failing to find one, even as she holds the flip phone up above her head in hopes it might register. “Come on, come on, come onnn,” she half begs, frowning when she brings it back down where she can see it before shaking her head, stuffing it back into the pocket of her pajama pants.

She’s dreaming, or at least she figures she must be, because she wouldn’t go out in public dressed like this. She doesn’t know why she’s dreaming something like this, but she’ll figure it out. She’ll see Brady or Sam or someone that she actually knows here and she’ll wake up warm and comfortable in bed to go to class in the morning… Or something. (has she ever had a lucid dream like this before? has she ever been aware that she was dreaming?)

It’s only when she sees someone walking ahead of her that she springs into action, jogging the few steps she needs to to catch up to them before reaching out to tap their shoulder, “Hey, can I borrow your phone for a minute? I’ve got no signal.”

it  was  almost  like  a  chore  to  have  to  navigate  this  place,  especially  when  she’s  desperately  trying  to  NOT  get  lost  again.  it  wasn’t  that  it  didn’t  seem  like  a  nice  place.  it  did,  but  with  the  fear  of  unknown  truly  setting  in,  she  couldn’t  help  but  NOT  relax.  it  was  born  out  of  worry  of  something  bringing  her  for  ulterior  motives,  and  the  horrendous  feeling  of  being  trapped  didn’t  help  either.  that  in  itself  for  elena,  outweighed  all  the  good.   at  the  tap  of  her  shoulder,  she  feels  her  stomach  twist  uncomfortably  ----  but  still  she  turns,  and  lets  a  smile  lift  at  the  corners  of  her  lips.  THE  GIRLS  WORDS  MAKE  HER  FEEL  AN  OUNCE  OF  RELIEF.  so  she  wasn’t  the  only  one  cut  off  from  her  family,  with  a  lack  of  communication  via  her  mobile.  “  hey,  i  mean  you  can  try.  but  mine  doesn’t  seem  to  have  any  signal  either,  which  is  convenient,  and  a  pain  in  the  ass.  ”  she  holds  her  phone  out  to  the  girl  nonetheless,  maybe  she’d  be  lucky.  a  girl  could  HOPE.

          “ elena gilbert “ words whispered from her silent cries, a hollow void had been left when kai bonded them; elena in a sleep-induced slumber until bonnie died. the witch was at a disaster without her sister. the remarkable trio was never the same without the gilbert girl. & here in the morning drizzle, the silhouette of elena was held in bonnie’s emerald hues. was this a trick? she grasped her hands together, urging that it wasn’t.            one stride forward, eyes not withdrawing from her friend. “ either i’m dead or you’re real- “ a brief silence as bonnie held back the glistening water held in her eyes. “ - just please tell me you’re real, please “ pleading as she inched herself forward, arms gradually extending out.

it  took  her  a  moment  to  fully  allow  her  soft  browns  focus,  adjusting  through  the  rain  and  falling  upon  the  girl.  and  she  has  to  bite  back  an  all  out  SQUEAL  of  happiness,  because  of  what  this  meant.  this  meant  that  ONE,  she  wasn’t  alone.  and  two  ----  maybe  all  her  loved  ones  were  okay.  “  bonnie !  THANK  GOD,  i  was  starting  to  think  this  was  some  horrific  prison  or  something.  like  one  of  those  escape  rooms  that  i’ve  NEVER  been  all  that  good  at.  ”  she  jokes,  a  way  to  try  and  lighten  the  mood.  mind  is  cast  back  to  her  other  best  friend,  now  caroline  would  be  excellent  in  these  dire  situations.  she  always  DID  know  how  to  organise  things.  a  grin  so  vibrant  breaks  upon  olive  features,  and  she’s  rushing  forward,  haphazardly.  trying  to  avoid  getting  soaked.  ONLY,  she  halts  at  the  words  that  falls  from  the  witches  lips.  

she  returns  the  gesture,  her  arms  reaching  out  too  as  eyebrows  furrow.  SHE  UNDERSTOOD  THE  TERROR  THIS  PLACE  INDUCED.  but,  this  seemed  deeper.  it’s  setting  a  chain  reaction  of  unrelenting  fright  within  her,  it  vibrates  like  an  all  encompassing  chaos  in  her  very  lungs.  and  she  makes  a  crucial  effort  to  remember  to  BREATHE.  before  it  snuffs  that  out  too.  and  she  brings  the  girl  into  her  arms,  giving  her  a  soft  squeeze.  “  hey,  hey,  shh  ----  you’re  not  dead,  and  i’m  here  okay?  i  don’t  know  EXACTLY  where  here  is.  they  say  it’s  called  reprieve.  but  everything  is  okay.  as  can  be  at  least.  ”  she’s  holding  her  a  moment  longer,  in  attempt  to  calm  her  down,  especially  after  the  possibility  of  what  those  words  could  mean.  once  she’s  pulling  back,  hands  rest  upon  the  girls  shoulders.  just  to  help  ground  her,  to  reassure  as  best  as  possible.  “  now  i  don’t  know  WHY  you’d  need  to  be  dead  to  SEE  me,  but  you  best  stop  those  tears  bonnie  bennett,  before  you  start  me  off.  ”  she  lets  go  of  her  to  give  her  a  gentle  nudge.  words  are  teasing,  though  she’s  well  on  her  way  to  crying  with  misty  chocolate  hues.  there’s  a  slight  RELIEF  knowing  she  finally  wasn’t  alone.  elena  could  take  a  comfort  in  that.

at  this  very  moment  a  conscious  effort  was  being  made,  an  attempt  to  delay  the  stir  of  suffocating  panic  within  her  -----  to  stop  it  being  her  very  undoing.  what  good  would  that  do  when  she  didn’t  know  where  she  was,  or  how  in  the  hell  she  got  there?  hands  have  punched  numbers  into  her  phone  over  and  over  but  got  nowhere.  NO  RECEPTION.  of  course.  just  her  luck.  after  the  last  few  months,  it’s  only  right  that  she  assumes  the  worst.  assumes  the  big  bad  hybrid  that  had  set  an  assault  on  her  life  for  his  own  personal  gain  ----  leaving  her  with  a  few  dead  relatives  and  the  loss  of  her  own  life,  albeit  briefly  -----  her  assumption  was  that  he  was  somehow  involved.  or  at  least  something  witchy.  it  was  terrifying  being  alone,  not  for  her  own  safety  as  such,  but  for  that  of  her  brother,  even  for  damon.  -----  wherever  they  may  be.   phone  is  placed  back  in  her  pocket,  with  an  audible  frustrated  sigh.  one  of  defeat.  so  she  would  NOT  be  conquering  the  battle  of  mobile  data  and  signal  today.  eyes  scan  through  people,  looking  for  someone  approachable.  trying  to  kerb  the  queasiness  in  her  stomach,  or  how  it  feels  like  the  anxiety  itself  is  CRAWLING  it’s  way  up  her  throat.  it’s  then  that  she  spots  someone,  and  heads  over.  “  hey,  uh  . . .  sorry.  i  was  wondering  if  you  could  POINT  me  in  the  direction  of  the  nearest  motel.  i’ve  got  lost  five  times  today,  and  i  don’t  plan  on  a  sixth  round.  ”  it’s  a  joke,  though  it  wasn’t  a  lie  ----  she’s  making  jokes  at  her  own  expense,  an  attempt  to  FOOL  herself  into  believing  everything  was  going  to  be  okay.  but  even  that  isn’t  ENOUGH  to  convince  her.

( nina dobrev, 18, she/her ) welcome to reprieve, ELENA GILBERT who is from THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, SEASON 3. rumor has it they are a HUMAN, but only they could tell you the truth! when i close my eyes, i think of them and imagine BULLET JOURNALS, TEAR STAINED PILLOWS and OLD WORN CONVERSE. 

hey,  hi,  hello,  it’s ya resident trash girl here,  essy.  back at it again with my favourite doppelganger,  who is both a pain in the ass but the most compassionate soul.  i’m pulling her after the kiss with damon at the motel in season three. episode nineteen to be exact.  so this girl is going to be in for a TIME.  she is of course, a canon character and i do not have the energy or time to explain everything about her because i’m too lazy for that which most of you know.  so read about her, here. 

HER BACKGROUND.  

elena gilbert is the adopted daughter of grayson and miranda gilbert,  although the fact that they aren’t her blood related parents is something unknown to her until season one of the vampire diaries. her childhood is relatively happy,  brought up seeing her dad as a doctor,  thus inspiring her to want to follow in his footsteps as an adult.  she falls in line as a sister to jeremy extremely easily,  and loves him unconditionally.  and they’re even somewhat close growing up.  she’s extremely loyal,  and compassionate and this is seen evident with her friends.  she would do absolutely anything for them,  sacrifice ANYTHING, and everything. 

her easy life of dating matt donovan,  being on the cheerleading squad and such is all foiled once she and her parents get into a car accident,  going over wickery bridge  ----  this,  resulting in the loss of them both and her living.  though it could be noted that things weren’t perfect before that,  not truly.  at least,  she wasn’t happy with matt,  and she felt there had to be more to life.  but things were about to change,  a full one eighty.  IT’S MYSTIC FALLS,  nothing bad happens here.  if she could remember saying those words,  she would definitely want someone to punch her in the face,  believing she jinxed it.  things are already difficult,  her brother turning to drugs to cope,  her ending her relationship with matt and spending more time with her journal than people.  maybe it was a comfort to just let feelings out and not have to live up to people and their expectations,  or to feel uncomfortable in their gazes,  and pity filled eyes.  IT HAD GOT CONSIDERABLY HARDER TO BREATHE.

and then things get so much worse  ----  or better,  depending on how you look at it.  the bombshells,  aka two supernatural brothers walk into her life.  and she falls in love,  albeit with them both,  though she hasn’t acknowledged that as of yet.  she doesn’t want to be like katherine,  doesn’t want to string people along,  and yet she’s already done that.  with stefan and damon comes a whole world of trouble,  more loss,  even the loss of her own life at the hands of an evil hybrid wanting to break a silly little curse that apparently she was the KEY for.  one of the biggest things is finding out that john gilbert,  her supposed uncle is her biological dad,  and that her history teacher’s presumed DEAD wife is her bio mom.  and then losing them too,  along with aunt jenna.  it’s safe to say that elena gilbert’s life is well and truly cursed with a grief so suffocating,  that she does suffer with a true fright of losing people.  

but with stefan,  she finally feels like she’s able to breathe,  like she has someone who gets it.  who knows everything going on,  and doesn’t expect too much of her.  someone always there to catch her when she falls.  and a lot of the time she does,  a lot of the times she’s the damsel in distress,  and she HATES it.  hates that people sacrifice for her.  this could be down to an overwhelming sense of survivors guilt,  from her parents,  and the endless list of others dying because of,  or related to her.  with stefan,  she gets to be FREE.  

...but it’s never that simple.  and things take a disastrous turn once stefan goes off with klaus,  leaving her with damon.  like he’d sold his soul to the devil.  and suddenly,  she has no one to depend upon.  only,  she does.  and damon surprises her,  challenges her,  and sneaks up on her and she’s left more conflicted than ever.  if there’s one thing she hated more than anything,  it was how katherine pierce had been the bomb threatening to explode the relationship between the brothers,  and now she felt the same.  even if she hadn’t acknowledged how she was feeling,  too scared to do so.  something wasn’t right.  there was a part of her that felt something for damon,  that felt protected by him,  and that she felt like he was edging slowly into her heart even after all the horrendous things he had done.  SHE HATED ALL OF IT.  because she was in control,  because she wanted these things,  and yet it was causing more of a cataclysmic effect than it was even possible to acknowledge. because she had given her heart to stefan,  always.  and now,  she was even more confused than ever.  because he wasn’t here.  and damon was.  and maybe that’s what she wanted.

one minute she’s running back to the motel room after lighting her own match to her life after kissing damon,  after she’d WANTED to kiss him.  in a cheap motel in denver,  no less.  and it was everything she’d thought it would be,  like a fire so potent from the heights of passion that it engulfed her,  took her hostage and she’d never wanted to be set free.    running was easier than confronting what she had JUST done,  and what it meant,  and it’s as she’s opening the door and walking inside  -----  that she realises that it’s not the room she was SUPPOSED to sleep in.  in fact she had walked straight out of a random shop door,  into a street that she DID not recognise,  and oh she had tried to go back through said door,  only getting crazy looks from the people working in the supermarket.  

she didn’t know where she was,  or HOW she was there.  and the horrific sense of fight or flight had set in and knocked her well and truly into panic mode.  and she can’t help but think witches are at fault,  magic doing the unthinkable. 

there’s a worry for jeremy,  for her brother knowing that kol is out there,  and for damon and for herself.  there’s a worry over everything.  and yet,  the town has this unflinching ability to make her doubt EVERYTHING.  had she just made this up in her head? time will tell.
