Also there’s rescuse that specialize in rehabilitating police dogs so they can exist in society. There is absolutely 0 reason to euthenize these dogs aside from using it as emotional manipulation.

The response to this shouldn’t be “well then we won’t do this so you won’t kill innocent dogs,” it should be, “I can’t believe you abused these dogs so badly to carry out your agenda that they can’t be regular dogs any more and care so little for them that you would euthenize them just to make a political point.”

also A LOT of police dog handlers keep their dogs as pets after the dogs retire? theyre perfectly capable of being rehabbed, it just takes TIME, COMPASSION, and ATTENTION like rehabbing any abused animal would. theyre just blatantly lying to appeal to peoples emotions so they support their fucked-up agenda.

A) you can sell dogs to other areas

B) even if you couldn't it's still worth it

C) Stable police dogs are a thing and should be a thing....if your force is full of kennel sour monsters that's your shitty mishandling and you should have been taking better care of your tools. Stop cutting corners to train unsuitable dogs

D) There are ways to retrain alerts in certain dogs who had solid groundwork and temperament in the first place

E) Most detection dogs aren't dual purpose...they don't have any civil real world bitework on them (or if they do it was early drive building sport stuff when they were with their broker and therefore pretty equipment focused and not civil)....and a lot of them are bouncy driver labs or malinois....the idea you could not sell or place potentially nicely bred drivey working dogs that should be crate trained, car conditioned, kennel broke, and used to performing under high stress in sport homes who'd gladly take them is a bit suspect....I mean unless you haven't been properly taking care of your tools and letting them rot and sour with mishandling.....
