Construction on the Flodden Wall in Old Town Edinburgh, Scotland, began in 1513 after their defeat at the hands of the English at the Battle of Flodden. The wall was built as a defensive measure against further attack from the English and also to control smuggling. Some areas are up to 24ft high, but this section in Greyfriars Kirkland is less than half that.
