Assalamualaikum my brothers and sisters,
Alhamdulillah, it’s the 10th day of Ramadan and I pray to Allah for us all to take advantage of this time to repent and correct ourselves and for Allah to forgive us of all our sins.
So…just a few minutes ago, I was listening to Jennifer Lopez, ‘On The Floor.’
I’m sure many of you must have heard that song by now and so, yes, I was listening to it, when realized that the lyrics was just disturbing.
“Dance the night away, grab somebody, drink a little more….”
And she would actually repeat that a few times in that song and I just thought to myself, why am I even listening to this stuff anyways?
And so, I listened to the Quran and Subhanallah, a sense of calmness just took over me immediately and no, I wasn’t bobbing my head or felt “high.”
Yes. Realize that many a times when we listen to music, such as….Lady Gaga or Gugu, whatever her name may be or Usher or whoever, we get this “high” feeling, like as if we’re on drugs and start to bop our heads and forget everything else? Even Allah?
And here’s another thing.
How many of us, have to really BLAST THE SOUND OUT LOUD when we listen to music such as I mentioned above? And yet…do we attain a sense of peace when we listen to it? A definite, NO!
But try listening to the Quran and it’s beautiful recitation, and you don’t even gotta blast your speakers out loud, but you’ll not only feel a sense of calmness, but you’ll be moved by it.
So, my brothers and sisters, try to avoid listening to music as much as you possible can, and do deeds in this world, that pleases Allah.
Remember death often enough and beg for Allah to guide you onto the straight path.
