&. HEADCANON ; the letter.

there are certain things that caroline forbes will never forgive herself for. making stefan turn it off, missing out on mourning her mom, losing control when her humanity was off, but most of all, the thing she’ll regret most would be burning her mother’s letter. mostly because she has no idea what was in it. even if it was the usual ‘i love you, i’m proud of you’ motherly things, if it was advice on how to live her life without a mother. about how, when she picked out a wedding dress she should leave at least a few months for them to be able to tailor it, or that she should do something that made her happy, damn what anyone else thought. even if it was just the same old motherly, elizabeth forbes wisdom — there’s nothing she wouldn’t give in order to read that letter. to see her mom’s handwriting, to be able to brush her fingers along the indents in the paper, see where the ink was smeared from her mom’s tears. there’s nothing she wouldn’t give in order to see what her mom wanted to say to her, that she couldn’t say in person. so there are certain things that she’ll have to forgive herself for. for stefan, for her friends, her mom — but she’ll never forgive herself for the letter.
