We lit the flame in the studio today. It was a reawakening of Soul Sessions. As we move from the expansiveness of a long hot summer to winters darkness, it’s a perfect time to turn inward. These are the stages of my painting. It comes on the heels of some personal awakenings about life, loss and where I have been in my life. It comes as I complete a 7 year cycle of grief and loss. What is revealing itself through writing, art and my dreams, feels like a deeper understanding of where I have “been.” I am not sure where this piece will land, but I am clear it’s not complete. I enjoyed the deep creative meditation and listening to what was being asked of me and responding without judgement. It’s a dance we do with the “canvas,” a dialogue of the heart and senses. Expressive Art in action All summer as I’ve walked Blue on different parts of the bike path, I’ve come across these rocks each with a different message. The others have been light hearted. Today I found these in a place closer to my home and they feel more intense than the others. They have been grouped in the Instagram layout but they were not together in actuality. The rocks are always carefully placed in places along the path and you have to stumble upon them. My piece from today’s Art, Healing and Hope class at The Art Base. It was my first time through the area since the fire. The word miracle does not quite cover it. I was reminded of the fire line that saved my house in 2002 here In Glenwood. It’s a literal stripe, scorched earth and greenery. Thank you to the men and women who saved our towns. Thank you to all who came together today to share your feelings through imagery. Thank you to The Art Base for offering me the opportunity to bring this monthly program to your our community.
