đ â a goodbye kiss (clay) @theclayjensenâ
Sheri couldnât focus. Clay had invited her over to do homework, both of them sitting on the carpet, their backs against his bed. But she couldnât focus on it. Not when her mind was racing with the knowledge of what she was planning to do. She had to - her guilt had been eating her alive for a long while and she simply couldnât take it anymore. A part of her was scared, of course. She didnât know exactly what would happen after she came clean. But she needed to.
Clay was so good - a kind of good that she hadnât considered herself as being since that night. Sheâd wanted to tell him so many times, but she just couldnât. She was a coward - she didnât want him to hate her or look at her differently. Theyâd gotten so much closer lately - it wasnât exactly uncommon for their homework sessions to turn into making out instead, even if they hadnât had any kind of âwhat are weâ talk yet. Admittedly, Sheri ahd been a big factor in holding back from that. She liked Clay so much - but her guilt was consuming her and, especially now, she couldnât let herself drag him in with her anymore than she already had.
âClay,â she started after a moment, shaking her head. She was going to do this today, she decided. Before she lost her nerve. âIâm sorry, but... I canât stay. I gotta go,â she bit her lip, seeing the confused expression on his face. But she didnât let him speak. Itâd be harder for her - she had to go. Turning away, she quickly packed up her book bag. But then she paused. She didnât know what was going to happen to her after this. If she would still be around...
Turning back to meet Clayâs eyes, still as confused as ever, she lifted her hands up to cup his face and gently leaned in, brushing her lips against his softly. She held the kiss for a long moment - longer than she should have before she finally pulled back. âIâm sorry,â she repeated. âI gotta go. Take... take care of yourself, okay?â she implored, her thumb brushing over his cheek.
Pulling her hands back, she quickly got to her feet and started towards his bedroom door. She paused in the doorway, turning to look back at him over her shoulder with a sad smile. âBye, Clay.â Giving a small wave, she then sweeped out the door, knowing her nerve would be gone if she stayed a moment longer.
