Absolutely feeling like I’m gonna get yelled at at work today for something that happened last night that wasn’t my fault and I’m feeling so anxious about it, it’s making me feel so nauseous
Monday was Seabreeze Day! I've had her for three years at this point, so I made a belated birthday piece for her! Actually a finished version of a sketch/doodle I'd done of her a month and a half or so ago :3 Pretty happy with how this came out! :D
I don’t rlly post ref updates a whole lot here anymore but these are pretty significant for what I usually do so I figured why not :3 See all my new refs below the cut!
Over the last month or so, I’ve been working on updating all my anthro OCs’ refs in preparation for Art Fight and I rlly like how they’ve been coming out! The main change is rather than having them all in Stock Tacoma Ref Pose™, I wanted to give them poses that showed off their personalities a little bit better. That’s been fun to work with so far hehe.
So here’s who we’ve got!
Starting with Sitka! Both his main furry form and his balloon form got an update here! Like with pretty much all my characters, he didn’t really get any design changes, it was mainly a style update and point some specific things on his ref. Although I did make an additional mini ref bc I decided to give him the same gap in his teeth that I have irl :3
Shep, PB and Starbust! The rest of my furry sonas got an update as well, again mainly just a style update and giving them better poses :3
Then the rest! Luau and Seabreeze, Kickflip, Astro, Furry Rhazz, Rye and Pumpernickel! Pretty happy with how my goal of conveying their personalities through their poses came out for all of these! Not exactly as clear as I would have wanted, but for a first swing at doing my refs like these, it's miles ahead of their old refs haha.
Those were all the anthro refs I knew I wanted to update. Others like Tarmac, Roadie and Soda are still in Basic Ref Pose, but their refs are new enough that they can keep them for this AF lol. I still haven’t figured out how I wanna go about my feral OCs’ refs so that’ll be a post-Art Fight project haha. I did however, update the refs for all my other OCs on Art Fight to have my updated eye style :3

One year. I've had Sitka for a year as of today. That's kind of crazy to me. He still feels like a new character while at the same time feeling like I've had him for years. It's almost impossible to overstate what this tiger means to me <33
I do wish I could've drawn something a bit more, like, grandiose I guess, but I do like how this pose came out after having it in mind to draw for like a year lmao. I wanted to do sort of a spinning pose, almost roundhouse kick type thing, something with a lot of motion that gave me a good excuse to draw his big tail :3

More talk abt what he means to me below the cut
God where do I even begin with him? lol. I think Sitka is the most influential character I've made ever since I first created Shep back in March of 2020 as my first fursona. And truthfully, both of them in their own ways have helped me figure out and express new things about myself. I both made them at very transformative points in my life and I think their impacts on my prove that. After I made Sitka last year, I connected to him WAY stronger than I had expected to, even knowing that I was making him as a new sona. Again, I don't think I've ever connected more strongly to an OC, save for maybe Shep. This guy is in my head constantly, I swear.
And over the course of the last year, I think I've (at least partly) figured out why that is. I liked Sitka from the minute I had made him of course, but I think part of what took him to that next level for me, so to speak, was my Unseen drawing from last September. This is probably the angriest drawing I've ever made. At the time, I had felt ignored by the world and passed over. Group chats, my job, irl friends, I felt like no one could see me. I wanted the world to know that I wasn't invisible, and having an OC who's an apex predator was really what I'd needed. That drawing really opened my eyes as to why I connected with Sitka so much.
For so much of the last year or more, I've felt weak, pushed around, not given the time of day or any kind of priority. I don't feel strong, confident in myself, or like I stand out from anyone else in any capacity. Sitka is an idealized version of myself that does have those strengths. He's self-confident, adventurous, ready for anything. He doesn't take shit from anyone, will fight back and isn't afraid to bare his teeth. Because deep down inside of him there's a hope that, one day, things will get better.
Somehow, he's both an idealized version of myself like I said, but also a presence I wish I had in my life. A protector. I wish I had his ability to stand up for himself, his resilience, and honestly sometimes I just wish I had his giant fucking teeth and claws. The world certainly wouldn't ignore me then.
Unsurprisingly, connecting with him so strongly has significantly increased my appreciation of tigers as animals. Huskies might still be my favorite animals if it came down to it, but tigers are a REALLY close second. But on an even deeper level, Sitka has me even thinking some things over identity-wise. I don't think I want to delve into that quite yet since I'm still feeling it out and sort of not sure where to go with it yet, but I can't say I've ever had an OC that's done that for me before. Not bad for a tiger.
Got some revenges comin out here for the first couple attacks I got! These were a lot of fun to swing back with hehe :3

When given a roster of characters, local Tacoma draws Kingda Ka based tiger OC, no one is surprised. In other news, fork found in kitchen, more at 11 lmao. But fr I've wanted to draw this guy for like a year and it was rlly fun to take a run at his design! :D

Decided to go for one of my sister's characters that I hadn't drawn yet with this one and I like where it ended up! Was totally winging it with the pose but I think it works haha

Another simpler design but still very nice to draw! I realized a bit too far along that I basically wholesale reused the pose from an attack I made last year, but I think I improved on it here so it's okay haha. Love the forest tones with this one <3
