She was multi-dimensional. She liked hip-hop and astrology. She got lost in the melodies but she belonged to the stars.

This Black History Month and Women’s History Month, we’re celebrating black women directors from different countries, eras, and movements by highlighting some of the films they have brought to the screen since the birth of the medium.
A number of of these titles are widely-recognized classics; many more are under-seen masterpieces that have disappeared over time or little-known gems made far outside the mainstream, ignored by critics and audiences alike. What they all share is a daring creativity that makes them especially worthy of your time and attention. Check out our Twitter for daily selections and check back here each Sunday in February and March to see a list of the past week’s films. We hope you’ll watch (and discuss) along with us. These fearless and fascinating filmmakers have remained in the shadows for far too long. It’s time for their creations to be seen by the masses.
