it always gets under my skin whenever people complain that claire was dressed inadequately for a dinosaur breakout because… like… dinosaur theme park aside, she works in an OFFICE. she’s not out there with the dinos, she’s behind the scenes. she has a DESK JOB. of COURSE she’s going to be wearing a skirt and sensible heels. she wasn’t exactly expecting to have to run away from a t-rex, and what did y’all expect? for her to run around a dinosaur-infested theme park barefoot?

“You know what I honestly won’t miss about livin’ in the tropics?” 

Owen says as he slips into the chair across from Claire and dries  his hands on his napkins. They’re at an open air restaurant in San Jose, the whole room is abuzz with chatter and somewhere on the other side of the space is a man playing covers of Jack Johnson songs and what seems to be the eternally popular “Rasta Man”.

He had gotten Claire to agree to a do over date—Nothing fancy,  nothing like their last date, just the two of them sharing a meal  and trying to sort out their lives before flying back to the United  States tomorrow. 

“Scorpions,” He sets his napkin aside and looks at the menu with a sigh. The food, however he will miss. “Dunno about you but those suckers always managed to find their way inside and I’d find them under my hand towels. By accident,’cuz they’d sting me.” 

The now ex-handler pauses for a moment to study the menu then he looks up at Claire. 

“———Oh. The reason I bring it up is because there’s one in the bathroom so watch out for that.” 

“Not the best choice of date topic, I know.”

 12 hours, 55 minutes and 45 seconds. Not that Claire Dearing was counting. 12 hours, 45 minutes and 2 seconds till their plane took off. Till she was off and as far away from Isla Nublar as possible. Karen had already taken the boys, the witness statements taken from them. Claire and Owen had to stay after to give their own statement, seeing as they ( especially claire ) had a much bigger part in everything that happened. Thankfully, no one was trying to sue claire, although many claimed to be in touch with their lawyers to sue the entire company. Not that Claire minded, she pretty much signed her own resignation papers by giving her statement. Tongue licked at chapped lips, raising her wine glass to her lips as she waited for Owen to come back to the table, checking her phone to see if her sister had texted her back. Not that she really expected her to. 

She set the wine glass down, a cold gaze settling upon Owen as he sat down, the gaze softening the longer she looked at him. Before the events on Isla Nublar, she wouldn’t have dreamed about going on another date with the man in front of her. He infuriated her, he was everything she hated and yet...yet he was also everything she needed. He was kind, he was so great with kids and...in some way, he completed her. Although if you asked her, she’d just roll her eyes and deny it. Fight with him again.

“The scorpions always found their way into my panty drawer. You think getting stung by them on the hands is bad...” she clicks her tongue in amusement, “Try going to the doctor with that one.” a small smirk rises to her lips as she raises her own menu, pretending to look at it although she already knew what she wanted to order. “I’ll be sure to check out the ladies then,” a pause is given. “The food is delicious. I will give you that.” She tries her best to ignore the fact that he wiped his hands on his napkins, clenching her jaw as she pretended to look at the menu but instead snuck glances at his face. 

“Your topic is fine but I’d rather not talk about the island..” or anything to really do with it. She wanted to move on and she couldn’t do it if he kept bringing Isla Nublar up.
