The City is Under Attack

When the Joker and the rest of the Rogue’s Gallery attack New York City, it’s up to the Justice League and the Avengers to work together to stop him. But first, they have to learn how to get along: training together, planning together, and living under one roof. The Avengers would prefer to take care of the city themselves, but the Justice League is insistent that the Avengers have never faces a threat like this before.

Meanwhile, the public is growing angry. The attacks have threatened the safety of their everyday lives, and they fear that their heroes simply aren’t getting the job done. They march the streets and protest,  demanding to know who will keep the vigilantes accountable.

Through all of this, the Joker is still in hiding and plotting his next move. There’s only one thing the heroes know for sure: he’s just getting started.

Will justice prevail or will the heroes have to avenge their broken city?

“Hmmph. I woulda been polite. Sides, a girl’s gotta right to walk around without people ogling....Anything wrong in particular?”

“Am I paranoid, or is that guy staring at me?”

“HA! Real funny, wiseguy. How about I stick to worrying what reckless way I spend my time, and you make sure you stay on that criminology track. And you know, obey your parents, don’t stay out too late, all that fun stuff.”

“So that’s why I brought the coffee and, ah geez,” she stopped and looked down at the two cups in her hand. “You’d think I’d be better at this by now,” she said, almost to herself. “Anyway yeah, I just thought an apology was in order. See ya round.”

“Then why’re you looking for a job?”

“The hell––oh, I mean heck else am I gonna do with my time? Sit in an office? I wouldn’t last a day.”

Matt held his hand out for her to drop the thing in his hand. “Thank you. What kind of things are they writing?”

“Uh...Stuff about attacking public buildings, mostly. They’ll write a place and a time and paint fires or bombs around it. Most people think it’s dumb kids, but I think dumb kids can do a lot of harm these days.”

“Your dad’s a smart fella. Luckily for me I still own part of Blackhawk Inc––they made it a shipping company, can you believe that––so I can afford to be stupid, least for a little while.”

“…I uh…I don’t drink mixed stuff I ain’t seen made, doll. No offence.”

“Oh. Shit. Heh, I guess I’m really gettin off to a good start. I’m just sayin, the past few times we’ve talked I think I’ve done ya more harm than good, and I just wanted to let you know I’m real sorry about it.”

Her eyes widened as the girl spoke, kids with bombs was never a good thing. “Of course,” Simmons said, taking the vial from her and walking over to her station. She plugged it into the computer and waited as it brought up the list of ingredients. “It seems to be a blend of many different elements, though luckily they all seem human,” she said, relieved that the machine had yet to pick up any alien substances.

“The type of elements a bunch of kids could get their hands on?” she put her hands on her hips. “I ain’t no expert, but as far as I can tell this stuff should be kept under lock and key somewhere, I mean real high security. I’m worried these kids are breaking into chemical plants––or somebody’s getting the stuff for them.”

“Hey, there’s nothing wrong with security-work. I heard it can be pretty exciting.”

“Whatever you say kiddo. I’m gonna stick to running around at night like a crazy person, and we’ll just see what happens.”

“…Say something?” As in ‘I’m sorry, did you’. Not as in ‘please say something’.

“...Oh uh, I was sayin’ that I brought you coffee. You said you don’t drink, so I  figured coffee’d be alright. I thought I’d come apologize.”

“Security? Whoo buddy don’t get too crazy. I’m dyin from excitement over here.”

“I might as well be a librarian.”

“…Actually, it costs a lot to raise cattle. It can be pretty hard to start a business in the field. Or, I guess it should be on the field.”

“Yeah? So what do you suggest I do for a livin?”

“Remember, all I’m really good at is uh, shootin stuff.”

“Decapitated animal head. I hear the eel is nice, but I’ve only stuck to the snake myself.”

“That sounds....Like I’ll still just be drinking my regular ol’ cheap beer. But all drinks’ll be on me, so feel free to pick whatever kinda fancy poison you like.”

 “Yeah, maybe, but as far as I can tell, and I’m a massive nerd, so I can tell a lot, there aren’t a lot of vigilante-types out there looking to hire people to be vigilante-types.”

“Well then I guess ol’ Zinda will just have to go back home to Texas. Raise some cows or somethin. Wouldn’t that be sad?”
