‘Red Planet Earth’ is a Native American science fiction fanzine from 1974. Created by Cherokee writer Craig Kee Strete, it’s regarded as the first science fiction zine by North American Indigenous writers. Red Planet Earth ran for six issues and included a mix of short stories, poetry, articles and more. Describing itself as “a magazine of American Indian science fiction”, it featured contributions from Strete, as well as other Native American writers.
My favourite photo from SF Zine Fest 2015, which took place in September of that year. I think it may be the biggest zine fest I've ever been to – this was just one room. The organising team were so welcoming and friendly. I recently found a stash of unpublished Instagram photos from the event. Might post them on here.
