A lot of people have been making the comparison between shitty boomer phone bad comics and anti AI standpoints and you know what?
The boomers were onto something.
They definitely didn't have any valid reason for believing it, other than "new technology bad" but they are right about phones being bad, no matter how misguided they are.
Phones in their most relevant states are predatory and are specifically built to keep you as engaged as possible to maximize the intake of corporations
The most popular ones are specifically built to not be accessible for changing operating systems so that Google, Android, and Apple can keep 24/7 surveillance on your actions
Even if it's not owned by any of those companies, if your phone has an assistant similar to Siri or Cortana, it's always listening (hence why it can respond to voice commands) and the company that owns that phone can very easily make the recorded data constantly available to them by one software update.
And AI makes none of it any better.
The biggest defense for AI is that it is made to be a tool to help streamline productivity and allow you more freetime. To that I ask: freetime for what? Freetime to stay attached to your screen and give Google more money by watching YouTube shorts? To destroy your mental health by putting you in an infinite feedback loop? To scroll through the misinformation vortex so that you can be mentally poisoned by whatever is on your feed?
Not to mention the infinite capability of AI to streamline the creation of misinformation and to put you in to an ever growing loop of "you consume, it creates, you consume, etc."
I believe the video was AI hype by Nathan Ziller (if I'm remembering correctly) that had a portrayal of an AI character who said something similar to "I'm useful for doing things like writing books, so humans have more freetime to do important things, like read AI books"
With things happening worldwide like ID age verification and the UK making plans to impose whatever media they find suitable for viewing onto YouTube homepages it's inevitable that this will end in a total lack of choice and privacy for consumers.
And we're all on phones. All of us. I'm writing this on an android phone right now. You're likely reading this on a phone screen right now, and if not, own a phone. We're all being taken advantage of by corporations. The future is bleak. And the best we can do for the time being is to resist. Tell family and friends to act in whatever way they can. Don't let the oppressors win. No matter if it's something as simple as making a rant post like this, something harder like removing all social media from your life, or by going out and protesting, which in some areas, could be life threatening.
At the end of the day, no matter how miniscule it is, no matter how much it seems to be the opposite, no matter what you do with it, your voice matters. It always will. No one can take that away from us.
Tl;dr: Smartphones are built to prey upon your attention, we live in an age where surveillance and data collection are too prominent to be ignored, no matter how you push back, your voice will always matter, so protest in any form you can
