what are some of y’all’s interpretations of the scene where jayce is rubbing his hand over the council table? i know he was thinking about viktor and that was the spot where he was, but why was he moving his fingers across the spot LIKE THAT.

like what was the reasoning, it’s so.. sensual and there was such a focus on jayce doing it.

also, it feels similar to that scene where caitlyn brought up “viktor’s at the center of this, isn’t he?” and jayce had a moment where he was thinking about viktor, imagining him smiling at him. there was such a focus on jayce’s expression and god, his eyes were dilating.

I was supposed to check Jayce's line from the scene but...I didn't notice how much S2 E8 focuses on Jayce's hands and caressing the kintsugi

Hey I had written about Jayce's desk caressing/how much that episode focused on his hands, I couldn't help but to scream in the tags about it :'D (also thank you so much for the gif?)

Not just metaphorically kintsugi but the table surface evoking Viktor's literal body in the last form Jayce saw it in (purple cyborg Jesus with tasteful gold highlights):

But also clearly Jayce is thinking about the Council bombing (we see a brief flashback of it, ending with the close-up on Viktor's dead face in the rubble) and putting together that Mel is the reason he survived; that's why it's the first thing he asks her about. Because with the kintsugi Council table it is super obvious that there is a perfectly undamaged circle centered around where Jayce was standing (one chair to the left of center):

But even if you think that's all Jayce was thinking about...it's still all about Viktor. "Why not save all of them?" he asks, but we know who he's talking about. From Jayce's POV it looks like Mel chose him over Viktor--even though Mel didn't do it intentionally, and, if you buy the theory that her and Viktor's magics somehow clash with each other, it's possible she couldn't have saved Viktor even if she'd tried.

And then Viktor shows up and it's Jayce and Mel against Viktor, and by the end of the scene it looks from Viktor's POV like Jayce has chosen Mel over him, even though that's also not really what's happening.

But tl;dr yes I think the focus on Jayce fondling the desk is totally intentional.

I would like to add to the last point!

If Jayce didn't choose Mel in that moment, it's something he did in the past.

To me, this entire fight is a call back to when Jayce became a Councilor. It's the "true Viktor POV", what was happening in his mind when his shoulders dropped in disappointment and loss.

That shot of Viktor broken puppet lying on the ground is in the exact same place where Viktor was sat as he lost Jayce to the Council.

I think often about Jayce "My partner died in this room" because it's kinda true for Viktor too.

I think this scene as a whole is an ode to their broken relationship, and it's not something either of them could mend. Not with Hextech-fueled violence, not with evolution.

@fuckyeahisawthat @duncanor first, i just want to say that these are such great analysis, holy shit, im so glad i woke up and saw these first this morning.

second, both of these posts haven’t done anything but fuel what i thought about last night which is that jayce & viktor’s fight scene was also genuinely a release of some… sexual frustrations/feelings they had towards each other.

and to add fuckyeahisawthat’s tags…

i kept saying that their fight is like one, but i wasn’t expecting it to actually be one that had the animators’ intentions.

which i know that some people have said that they wanted a scene with jayce that was like caitlyn being in the shower thinking of vi coming back to her, but i do feel like the Hand Shot, and jayce remembering viktor smiling at him before he shot him even though he didn’t, implies that there was a moment of jayce… having some intense emotions in a shower.

i mean come on the man was stuck in a cave for a long time and then had to come back to his timeline and instantly kill viktor, you don’t think that the moment he got to a nicer, secluded area for himself that he didn’t take some time in there to long over viktor? (plus my man was dirt grimy nasty, we didn’t need to see all that LMAO).

I mean, there's definitely sexual/romantic tension for sure !

Ultimately, for Viktor, the goal of this "meeting" is to have his partner back!

I joked about Viktor literally bending Jayce over in front of his own council seat the other day.

But even this got so much meaning. Like, look at this shot.. A few seconds of consideration before pushing him with strength. Then just staring at him, titling his head in mock consideration.

It's petty. It's angry. It's jealous.

And of course, this iconic shot

His entire body trapping Jayce, one hands over his heart, the other under his chin (thumb under his lips..), forcing Jayce to look up to him and witness his proposal.

And then there's this shot

It's so desperate! He doesn't want to let go. He grabs, he hugs back, his heads almost nuzzling into Jayce neck. His hand on his forehead to try and connect again.. But it's vain.

All of these to say, did you notice? Did you notice all these physical contacts where all initiated by Viktor for once. And with one goal in mind, getting Jayce back?

This is, from the bottom of by heart, the gayest fight scene I've ever seen.

I rest my case.

Oh yeah for sure, someone was out there making this deliberately horny. I don't have gifs but like, the flirty little finger touch on his forehead in the middle of the world's most dramatic backflip?

Slowly and sensually wrapping his robot fingers around Jayce's uhh hammer shaft all while he is pinning him to the desk with his other hand around his throat?

Plus the fact that for most of the fight he is not even countering Jayce's attacks--in the first gif above you can see that he just steps out of the way of the hammer blow. He's just dancing around showing off how agile and flexible and insanely strong his new robot puppet body is.

Holding the hammer heavy side up like that, like he's barely paying attention to it while he focuses on more important things (homoerotic choking)? All jokes about his robot army being twinks with Barbie feet aside, those things are crazy strong and the ball-bearing joints that can rotate 360 degrees without pain are actually a genius design choice. (The reason the gif of him getting thrown off Jayce's back and immediately flipping back on looks so weird and bug-like is that human arms don't bend that way.) Yeah this mf is flirting and showing off all while making his pitch for Jayce to come back to him.

But then it all circles back around to being SAD again because...this is the most direct Viktor ever gets with saying to Jayce: I want you to choose me over anything else. Over politics, over defending the city, and yes, over Mel. And Jayce!!! Says NO!!!!

(Of course in retrospect we know that Jayce already said yes with his whole chest when he accepted Mage Viktor's mission. But this Viktor doesn't know that! Of course he went off the deep end after putting himself out there so blatantly, in a way he never dared before, and then getting rejected. :-/)
