The Messenger
Have you ever felt that kind of feeling when you are too sleepy that you can’t even sleep anymore or perhaps, the kind of exhaustion that makes your starve to death but ironically have no cravings of what to eat?
Yes, that is me right now and I know to myself that this kind of life style won’t be ending as soon as I desire. This is in fact the curse of being a slave by profession. I wanted to take a nap so bad that I want to bang my head on my desk already.
Doing a self-massage became my expertise ever since I started working and now – I am slowly trying to run my thumb in circles against the temple of my forehead when our receptionist went to my station with her pretty smile while greeting me.
“Excuse me, someone is looking for you. He is currently in the lobby.” She looked kind of excited and a string of thought coiled up inside my mind for possible things that I ordered online. Yes, it can be one of my parcels.
I stood up without asking her about it. The recent one that I had was a hard disk to back up the overwhelming files in my laptop. Ah, I need that right now. I got suddenly excited that I can free some space even if it is just on my gadget, I need air to breathe. I am so suffocated.
I walked like a slug while the young receptionist matched my pace. I don’t really know why she needed to do that, she could have gone out by herself – is she escorting me for a reason? I tried to rub my eyes to somehow wake up a little bit but I forgot that I am wearing my glasses and carelessly put finger prints on my vision. Clumsiness made my specs foggy and now I need to wipe it with my shirt’s garment.
I took it off to clean it and the receptionist hurriedly opened the glass door in front of us. I was still busy trying to remove those unwanted marks when I saw a blurry figure of a man walking towards my direction. His scent was so familiar that I stepped back by instinct. Yes I smelled a blast of shower fresh powdery fragrance combined with the smell of rubbing alcohol.
The only thing that I can identify from his hazy image is his smile since I can already see his pearly white teeth pasted on his face. He got my glasses my hands and wiped it clean with a handkerchief on his hand. He returned my vision by means of putting it back nicely on me and fixing the strand of my hair on my ears just like he always did.
“Oppayam—” that was the only word that I can say when I saw his appearance.
His usually fluffy black hair turned in to a chestnut like hairdo. It does not really matter at all since he is still undeniably handsome with those charming claw like wrinkles on the side of his eyes. He is smiling like a kid which made his cheekbones stand out from the feature of his pretty face. This can only mean two things, the first one would be – he missed me a lot or the second one would be;
“Your father called me to tell you something over lunch.” He suddenly said gently.
“Please be more precise.” I can already hear myself trying to alter the tone of my voice to beg for him not to confirm my theory.
“Hmm..” He looked at the wall clock against our direction and focused his beaming eyes on me again; he pouted his lips while thinking until it reached the edge of his pointed nose. I don’t really know what to think of since I am totally wasted right now.
“It means, you need to go home darling.” He told me again with a smile.
It made me crumble. This is a trap.
“But—” I tried to escape.
“No buts, I already spoke to you manger about this. My dongsaeng needs a break. Your father wants to see you and I am here to deliver you to him. I won’t force you to come with me but you know that I am pretty good when it comes to nagging so it’s up to you.” He presented his wildcard openly to me.
By hearing his statement loud and clear I know that there is no point of arguing with him or prolonging this conversation. This will just drag me to pure exhaustion and I know that in the end he will win and that is why he is the best messenger of my father. He is the most capable one of bringing me home because I have very low tolerance on his strategy.
It was so different with Minwoo Oppa who is always using aegyo and Eric Oppa who uses pranks. Hyesung Oppa tends to sing to me over the phone while Andy Oppa tries to lure me with food. Junjin Oppa uses video calls instead of going here personally BUT OPPAYAM NAGS ME BIG TIME.
“Okay, let me get my bag.” I told him with a hopeless smile.
“What are you talking about? I already have your bag. I asked Miss Receptionist to bring it for you when you go out since you will forget about it. Hahahaha!” He held it up in his hands while laughing at me. He outwitted me again. He is very clever indeed.
“This is for your own good. Stop overworking yourself. Come, I’ll take you somewhere nice.” Oppayam already knew how to deal with me when I am stressed. He probably have planned to go to a distant park again or just the usual road trip.
He led the way as we walked outside the building. I was following him from his back and noticed he is wearing black long sleeves with white patterns on its lower part which was tucked inside his pants complementing his slim waistline. His garment was folded up to his elbow that emphasized his meaty biceps. He is carrying my bag like he owns it. He always does this. He resembles a mother picking up her kid from school when her daughter is sick.
“Did you bring your guitar?” I asked with a hint of excitement.
“Yes I did. I’ll make you smile a lot today you brat! Haha!” His laugh echoed inside the elevator like ringing bells.
How can a life cannot be wonderful?
