i'm not journaling as often as i used to and i'm really okay with it. i guess what i want to say is that you don't have to be creative when you don't feel like it. it's as simple as that. to be able to enjoy your journey, you have to listen to yourself and honor your process.

While it's great if you can use the quarantine to learn a new language or write a book, it's also perfectly okay if all you can manage is scrolling through social media or binge watching Netflix. While it's great to make the most of this situation, for some of us just getting through it is an achievement by itself. So don't be too hard on yourself if you haven't managed to draw or write daily or if you have yet to dedicate hours to a new hobby. It's okay. You're doing good even if all you're doing is keeping yourself together.

가을 - Autumn

이제 가을이네요! It’s fall now! Today’s WotD is 가을, fall (or autumn).

Here are the four seasons:

계절: season;  날씨: weather

계절마다 날씨가 달라요. The weather is different for each season.

봄: spring;  따뜻하다: to be warm

봄은 따뜻해요. Spring is warm.

여름: summer;  덥다: to be hot (ㅂ irregular)

여름은 더워요. Summer is hot.

가을: fall;  시원하다: to be cool

가을은 시원해요. Fall is cool.

겨울: winter;  춥다: to be cold (ㅂ irregular)

겨울은 추워요. Winter is cold.

You can add the prefix 한- to indicate the middle or height of that season.

(한창 + SeasonName; ie 한창인 겨울 -> 한겨울)

한봄: mid-spring, spring in full bloom

한여름: midsummer, hottest days

한가을: mid-autumn, height of harvesting season

한겨울: midwinter, coldest days

You can also add the suffix -내 for “all season long”.

(SeasonName+내내; ie 여름 내내 -> 여름내)

봄내: all spring long, throughout the spring

여름내: all summer long, throughout the summer

가으내: all autumn long, throughout the fall

겨우내: all winter long, throughout the winter

To say all of them (spring, summer, fall, winter) together, you can say: 춘하추동(春夏秋冬) This is a 사자성어, which is a 4 character Chinese idiom.

Just a little note of encouragement to say that you do NOT have to follow a straight and narrow path in your education in order to succeed. I fucking hate when people look down on others who have dropped out, are taking a break, are coming back after a while, or are on other non-traditional paths. Like, if you’re getting your GED? Good for you! If you’re older and are in classes with people half your age? I commend your resilience! If you can’t handle any sort of school right now for whatever reason? That’s perfectly okay! The idea that education should be cookie-cutter and that everyone can and should finish in the same amount of time is unhealthy, and frankly… wrong. Do not shame people for where they are on their academic journey. We already feel enough of that internally. Just cheer us on. If this applies to you, I love you and I’m proud of you. Keep going.

This is a message I pass onto my students because of how important it is. I finished a diploma at 18, took a year out because I thought I wanted to be a nursery nurse but went back and did A Levels at 19 (best decision ever) and lastly started my degree at 21. I have no regrets because I did what was right for me at the time.

once you stop fantasizing about that ideal version of yourself and start working towards becoming that person by setting your alarm clock earlier and actually going to the gym and actually volunteering at places and actually eating healthier and not procrastinating and working just a little bit harder you’ll realize that it was so easy all along. becoming your ideal self will only ever exist in your mind until you make the decision to work towards becoming that person. get up!! get going!! it’s now or never!! there is no light at the end of the tunnel!! get that flashlight and pave your own path bitch bc no one else is going to do it for u!!
