Heaven appoints certain angels for particular jobs regarding the human world, Rayns family was the kind of angels that control weather in one particularly intense lightning storm, Rayn got orders from God to strike and kill a human as it was "their time". They couldn't bring themself to do it, and when confronted by God, he snapped and told her off. Appalled by their insubordination, and angry that someone would challenge her, she promptly kicked Rayn out of heaven for disobeying orders. And thus Rayn was sent to hell... Angels aren't kicked out often, and most demons occupying hell were born there, and not "former angels" themselves. Former angels are a bit rare, and natural born demons make up the majority of the population. Because of this, former angels are looked down on and face discrimination and false stereotypes. Upon first arriving in Hell, Rayn is stuck on the streets for a few days, trying to get their thoughts together and scrape by. On the third day theyre targeted by this group of anti-angel individuals.
Dusty, the cashier of a pawn shop nearby, hears them fighting and recognizes the voices of the attackers as being people who frequently has issues with as well. Not being able to resit a good fight, she runs out of the shop to check it out. After breaking it up and chasing the gang away she takes Rayn in. The thing is, no one from heaven knows about the demon world, as there's no contact between the two and God keeps her mouth shut about it. So as far as the angels know, "getting kicked out" means being executed. Dusty and Rayn set out to find a way to get in contact with heaven, to let Rayn’s mother know they're alive.
