Everyone saying how season 4 is just proof that Tadano and Retsuko are the better pairing completely missed the point of season 2. Yes Tadano and Retsuko were really great together, but wanting a family and not wanting a family are VERY different life goals that are almost impossible to compromise on. If Retsuko stayed with Tadano and never got to fulfill her wish of settling down and having kids, she would’ve been unhappy, and she would most likely check out of their relationship over time. On the other hand, if Tadano just buckled down and had a family against his wishes, he wouldn’t be a very good parent to their kids or husband to Retsuko. Having kids when you don’t want to, or are uncertain about it is VERY risky. Sometimes it can work out, but more often than not it doesn’t, and Tadano would definitely regret it. In short, both parties would be extremely unhappy, and they probably would get divorced or separated at some point because of this. Yes, Tadano was amazing to her, and yes he still loves her, but you can really love someone and recognize that your relationship probably won’t work out.

Haida on the other hand, despite his flaws, is a really good match for her. They have similar hobbies, similar life goals, and as of season 4, they’re clearly at least INTERESTED in giving things a shot. Yes, they’re both passive and DESPERATELY need to work on their communication skills, but one of Aggretsuko’s main themes is that real romance is NOT like a fairytale. People aren’t perfect, and even great relationships don’t always have happy endings. There are things that Haida and Retsuko need to work on before they get together, but they also can work through their some of their flaws TOGETHER. For this reason, I cannot wait for season 5

Also Fenneko and Haida are CLEARLY platonic besties. That’s all I have to say
