                       KUROGANE  –   tsubasa: reservoir chronicle

a literal ninja from a feudal version of nihon (aka japan)!

no, he has no relation to naruto.

big, angry, and kind of scary. but underneath it all, he’s just a dad.

has been travelling from world to world for a long time now, so he won’t be too shocked to arrive in spirale– but he’s still going to complain about it.

originally, kurogane was sent away from his world by force; tasked with finding the true meaning of strength. he ended up travelling with a group of strangers, searching to find the memories of a certain princess.

loves to fight, and gets really excited when he has to battle someone. you don’t really want to get your butt kicked by him though, it’s gonna hurt.

don’t touch his sword. i’m warning u.

very perceptive and can always tell when someone’s lying. he might have a bad temper but he’s not dumb! 

a family doesn’t have to be a husband, a wife, a son and a daughter. sometimes a family is a ninja, a wizard, a kid, a princess and a white manjuu. 

(and if you hurt that family, you’re in big trouble xoxo)

did i mention he cut off his own arm to save someone once? but don’t worry, he’s got a cool robot arm now!

It wasn’t unusual for the mage and the ninja to find time to spar together-- although that practice seemed to be put on hold after they were both thrown into this strange world without the rest of their comrades. Kurogane would deny that he had settled into Spirale, but things were slowly starting to fall in place for them again, even if they weren’t entirely the norm.

This.. was definitely one of those things that stuck out, as the ninja found himself doing something he never had before; crouching behind a large mound of snow shaped like a fort as he worked on making a pile of snowballs. Fai had apparently entered the two of them into some sort of competition, and this was what they were supposed to do-- throw snow at each other like they were children or something.

But it wouldn’t be the mage if he didn’t do things like this, would it.

“Oi! You done over there yet?” Kurogane called out towards Fai, making no effort to peer over the fort as he continued working on his ammunition. “Che, this is a pain in the ass-- why couldn’t we just train like we usually do? It’s cold as hell out here.”

That’s something he hasn’t seen yet-- someone brandishing an actual weapon instead of the almost toy-like ones everyone was given upon arriving here. It’s not a kind that he had much experience with, either; guns were practically unheard of in Nihon, but there had been instances that Kurogane had come across them while hopping across different worlds. 

Though, it didn’t matter to Kurogane what the weapon was-- it was that this person had it to begin with. 

“That was yours before y’came here, wasn’t it. Not something you picked up.”

“.. what’d you do to get it back? Wouldn’t think goin’ up against those freaks running this place would be easy.”

Fighting at the combat lounge had become one of Kurogane’s more entertaining jobs that he’d ever picked up before; clearly enjoying the chance to pummel anyone foolish enough to try and challenge him each night he was in the ring. So far, no one had been strong enough to take him down-- though the ninja wouldn’t allow that to go to his head. There was still room for training, and always would be.

With the arena silent and empty for once, Kurogane brandished his wooden sword; using it against a practice dummy that he continued to strike down. Taking a moment to wipe the sweat from his brow however, his attention was quickly taken at the sound of someone entering the room-- narrowing his brow as he turned his head towards the source.

“Who’s there?”

Yet again the snow had come and gone as the weather cools, melting away with ease over the passing days, but over the evening of November 30th the city was pelted by a terrible snowstorm that buried the land beneath almost five feet of snow. Strangely enough, as the clock turned midnight and December was ushered in, a number of festive events emerged across the city, some even being ones many have heard before, while others seeming entirely new…

As a note: these activities are separate from any events that may be launched during the month of December.

It’s the weapon she carries that first catches Kurogane’s attention; although it was made of wood much like the sword he was given in place of Ginryuu, that didn’t change how striking its appearance was next to her. A girl this young, barely any older than Syaoran carting around a massive scythe-- he could only imagine what the real thing looked like.

“.. the hell d’you need something like that for?” he calls out to her without so much as a second thought, one eyebrow quirked in curiosity that could almost be taken as concern. Even if it wasn’t his business, it still wasn’t something you saw every day; even in a place like Spirale.

“I don’t doubt that you know how to use it, otherwise y’wouldn’t even be able to carry the damn thing-- but a weapon like that.. you’d need a pretty good reason to have it.”

sorry for the silence over here for the last little while! i’d like to get things up and running again with kurogane and place a small starter call out! these will probably be more on the shorter side, and i will cap this at 3! i do have a couple of owed replies i want to get to, but i’m hoping this will help motivate me a bit..!

Completely unaware of yesterday’s significance, Kurogane stands with about five or six sticks of pocky in his mouth; only happening on the candy after walking past a store that had them on clearance. Though they were pretty good, he didn’t really understand why that store had bought so many if they were just going to try to get rid of them-- not that it mattered to him, as he now had a whole bag of something cheap to snack on.

He regards the tea handed to him with a simple grunt; calloused hands rising to meet Fai’s and take what was given to him. Though Kurogane hadn’t asked for the drink, the heat radiating from the ceramic cup was a welcome feeling against his fingers; only now recovering from his sudden bout with an unwelcome storm. 

Of course, just because he was coming to see the mage, something like this had to happen to him. Despite wearing his cloak, he still appeared at the blonde’s door sopping wet; eagerly met with laughter and teasing of how he looked like a sad little dog caught in the rain. Aggravating as it was however, Kurogane found himself staying in Fai’s temporary home (after telling him to shut up more than once), now sitting on his couch with a towel draped over his slow drying hair. He let out a gentle breath against the surface of his tea in an attempt to cool it, bringing it to his lips to take a drink-- when suddenly, he felt something soft cover his shoulders from behind.

Turning his head, Kurogane caught Fai just as he set a blanket over top of him, that same smile he wore ever present against his features-- though there was something he couldn’t quite hide shining in the corners of his gaze as their eyes met. To the untrained eye, the momentary flash of concern would go unnoticed; but it was clear as day to Kurogane, along with everything else the mage always thought he could get away with.

“Quit your worryin’, it’s not like I’m gonna get sick. A little rain never killed anyone anyway,” as if disregarding it entirely, the ninja shifted his body forward again, rotating the cup in his hands once, then twice as he watched the liquid inside it ripple. Though as he remained silent for a moment longer than intended, brow furrowing in sight away from Fai’s, Kurogane allowed himself a sigh before he spoke again; a mumble so quiet against his outtake of breath, it could almost go unheard.

“... thanks.”

“It’s been raining for days.”

“Looks like the rainy season is finally here.”

“Shall I put on a pot of tea?”

“Turn up the heat/put another log on the fire, the rain brought a chill.”

“Close the window, you’ll ruin the flooring!”

“You’re sopping wet.”

“What on earth were you doing out there?”

“Fine, you can come in, but take off your shoes.”

“I don’t need you tracking mud everywhere.”

“The sound of rain is so nice.”

“You’re going out? In this?”

“You can’t go out there, it’s pouring down rain!”

“I like the rain and all, but being stuck inside is so boring.”

“The day would be a lot less boring if you learned how to sit still.”

“I cannot believe we’re stuck in this!”

“Maybe we should find somewhere to take cover until it stops.”

“Does it ever stop raining here?”

“Oh no! The rain ruined our picnic.”

“Want to go for a walk in the rain?”

“Can I have a blanket?”

“Sorry to intrude. This rain came out of nowhere.”

“Look at the sky! The lightning is insane.”

“It’s getting pretty intense out there.”

“A rainy day, warm blankets, a cup of tea, and a book to tie it all together.”

“Let’s go for a walk in the rain.”

“Here, this should warm you up.”

“Come in here before you catch a cold.”

“Ugh, that’s just a silly old wives’ tale.”

“I pity the poor souls caught out in this.”

“Aren’t there any books to read?”

“Rains smells so different in the city.”

“The rain smells better in the countryside.”

“Nothing like the sound of rain to go with a good book.”

“Careful, the tea is still hot.”

-draws on the fogged up windows-

-Flips loudly through book-

-sighs- “It’s so cozy in here.”
