Am working on a bit more Seres fic, so here is a brief snippet. This time considering an afternoon of swordplay sometime in the months following their escape from the wizard's tower and the meeting of their mentor, Sulwyn. Hoping to cover how they met as well, when I figure out how to work that in.

“Now try it again like you mean it." Seres does their best approximation of meaning it, swinging the first cut of two at the space currently occupied by their teacher's head and defended by her blade. They try their best to emulate the move she’d just done very effectively to them, as they had been the last several attempts, but where she had effortlessly relocated their sword and struck a ringing blow against their helm, they were so far finding her sword immovable. Once again they watch as she pivots her hand the merest fraction of a degree and turns a bending blade of grass into the steel that it is. Their wrist aches from the rebound and frustration.  “Your swordwork doesn’t lack for strength or precision, but it's still too slow. For this technique to work the strike must snap like a rock from a sling. All at once. Don’t think of it like trying to fell a tree with an axe, think of it like throwing the point of your sword at me. Only don’t let go.” Another hour of drills brings them no closer to kinematic epiphany.  “Perhaps just this once we might accept failure,” Seres suggests.

Tagged by @elavoria to share floral associations for my OC. While thinking about this I got the idea for the above art. Oft thought of as a weed (by itself sufficient reason for Seres to empathize with it), the humble dandelion, or Taraxacum, has several applicable meanings as well. Its associations with resilience and transformation, but also its connections to magic and wishes and its title of “rustic oracle” as given by the Language of Flowers (due perhaps to the belief that it could predict the weather). Think not of dandelions growing wild and numerous in a field, but of the lone flower sprouting unwanted from cracked concrete.

Have been working on making a character model in blender that I can use for various incarnations of my OC, *eres. I aimed for a lower fidelity/poly look with painted in details and shading (both for aesthetic reasons, but also cause it seemed more approachable). Posing them like this really shows one of the limitations of baked shading, and I might try to adjust the shading under the chin and cheek bones, but still. Pretty pleased with it.
