“...Take what back exactly?” Calem set down his goggles and took a seat on one of the metal stools in robotic camp, why he was there wasn’t really important. Distracted by his small project by Shins strange words. This had come out of no where, how strange, although intriguing and a little unsettling at the same time, almost reluctant for an answer.

Shin rubbed their arm, again. Why was their arm so itchy? Were they that nervous? Something about coming clean, despite they have apologized for this a million times, they felt it was right to just... Be direct. Yeah, that’s what they needed.

They hated apologizing, it left them in an awkward spot. But, they didn't care at the moment, how odd.

Truth to be told, he’d gotten a little bit of an anxiety boost when Shin had accepted an invite. Neither had talked for a while now, and last time they did it got off on a rocky start, and continued to be rocky, then after that, Shin was acting strange all around, which caused him to be more cautious. Just like he was the first time he met them. Hopefully they’d have a better interaction now, and the past was behind them. He had more important things to focus on now.  “How are you doing, Shin? It’s been a while.”

Shin let out a small laugh. It wasnt an awkward one, they seemed to be more fine then before. ❝ You’re right, that would be odd. ❞ They gently smiled and then looked around, although they didnt expect to talk to Calem first, they werent hostile. They didn't have anything against him, they just usually need to know people more first so they can carry a conversation.

Shin gently ran their hand through their hair, almost making their beanie fall off.

To be fair. They just wanted to be there for their little sister or whatever. But... There was a small ping of anxiety when Calem even took time out of his day to talk to Kota...No..Shin. That's right. They had forgotten. Calem and Jasper knew their name. They coughed to the side, Jasper's birthday was more important right now, wasn't it? No, this isn't a mission, Shin. Birthday parties are meant for social interaction, so, without warning, from their caught off guard expression, they put on a kind smile.

an experience so overwhelming / unexpected / like the drop in you stomach on a roller coaster / like the seeds in a jalapeño /this is what it’s like

scitter through the maze / adrenaline pumping, despite no visable threat / weave between the walls like a frightened rabbit /scream forwards, find the way out

imagine waking up / and the world is not quite right / like a blockbuster movie, a hypothetical apocalypse / but only for you

every smile is genuine, yet stilted / your name doesn’t sound right in their mouths / the street lights beam in the wrong frequency

there is no real danger / but how terrifying a place to be / normalcy vanished from beneath you / no recognition outside of your own mind that something is wrong

every conversation is a slippery obstacle course / turns of phrase that don’t make sense / jokes that don’t land, questions rhetorical answered proposed not for quite that answer

it would be comical if it weren’t so mortifying

what’s happening? where is the world that should be? the axis has been tilted, the months shifted slightly to the left

“explain it,” they say, “what is so strange?”

but how could i answer? “the light bends around your face wrong,” i say, “you talk so strange. it’s like everyone has read a rulebook on how to function here except me.”

was there a meeting i missed? is this all some orchestrated joke? an alien the size of a chihuahua, introduced as human. i am shaking and yipping and people look at me like this is strange.

the stars keep spinning. the traffic keeps flowing.

🖱 ❝ I’m not exactly OPPOSED to the idea of being a woodscout. ❞ They smiled softly, gently folding their arms. Kota understood Pikeman’s uncertainty. Some may call it “ A feeling they know all too well. ” Eventually, they pulled out a honey bun from their pocket and took a small nibble.

❝ Plus, my older cousin IS a troopmaster, plus, if you manage to pull that off, I’d be surprised. ❞

Kota complimented, before taking another bite, humming.

“Mister Pikeman, what are you doing here?” The older counselor quirked their brow, and a kind smile rested on their face as they stood up from dusting the window sills.

❝ It’s my business, er... kota? ❞ It’s an educated guess. Most camp campbell counselors nowadays were hard to keep track of due to the sheer amount. Though, it was a welcome change they didn’t immediately react with disgust or frustration at the sight of him.

❝ I solemnly swear I’m not misbehaving. ❞ He places his hand on his chest. Really, why lie? Perhaps they were foolish enough to believe him blindly.
