yoonmin advent calendar 2018

yoonmin writers listen up!

this is pretty short notice, but i’ve been planning a small christmas themed writing event for december and i’d love as many people as possible to participate!

the plan is to write a short drabble or ficlet every day leading up to December 24th, with an optional prompt list that you can pick and choose from as you wish.

there is absolutely no pressure to participate every single day, my goal is simply to have at least one new yoonmin drabble/ficlet per day (and i’ll be participating as well). beyond that it’s just the more the merrier!

no need for formal sign ups, just post your works in the ao3 collection i set up (will be posted with the prompt list) or if you prefer to post on a different platform, tag it with #yoonminadvent2018

the prompt list will be posted later today so keep an eye out for that!

Part of me wants to shift the entirety of Magical Fantasy Adventure Land into the normal world instead of splitting it into a separate realm.

Part of me is still annoyed that this fucker still doesn’t have a proper title. Or at least something that sounds better as a place holder.

it’s called Mafalia. that’s your world’s name. ‘MAH-FAR-lee-uh’.

That actually sounds really good as a world name. I’m curious to know where that came from?

it’s the acronym. “Magical Fantasy Adventure Land”-ia becomes MaFAL-ia: Mafalia.

i always find if you need a placeholder name for something, write it out and make up an acronym, adding and removing letters or vowels if need be.

for example:

“The House Where Clio Fell in Love With Him”

“The HouseWhereClioFellinLoveWithHim”

“THoWeCliFiLWH”

“ThrowecliFiLWH”

“ThrowecliffiLWH”

“ThrowecliffiLWH”

“Throwecliffe”

“Thrawecliffe”

hence ‘the house where Clio fell in love with him’ becomes ‘Thrawecliffe House’. what’s a ‘thraw’? i don’t know. is it on a cliff? maybe; that’s an author’s preogative.

suddenly the name of the house itself throws up new questions which an author in answering goes off down a rabbit hole of worldbuilding.

here’s a snippet from a shadowhunter chronicles au that i’ve been working on for a long time! it might not make it into the final version of the fic but i wanted to share something ♥

“What do you want from me, kid?” “I’m not a kid!” Yoongi wants to scoff and say that 20 years to someone who is 500 years old is very much the age of a kid, but then Jimin opens his mouth again and Yoongi forgets all of his snark because - “I want to be your friend.” It’s simple, ridiculously simple, and just as honest, and it stuns Yoongi into silence. Min Yoongi, Great Warlock of Busan, 557 years old respectively, a genius with magic and maybe even more so with words, if anything - is stunned into silence. He stares at Jimin, involuntarily impressed, and shakes his head after a moment. He huffs out a laugh and mumbles “well, you’re something else,” which has Jimin brightening instantly and Yoongi shaking his head again. Louder he says “Fine, you can stay. But I have work to do, so don’t bother me.” Jimin beams at him, crossing his legs and making himself comfortable on Yoongi’s couch. Yoongi resists the urge to shake his head a third time. Half an hour later, with Yoongi deep into his paperwork (grumbling magic words and profanities from time to time), Jimin finds a steaming cup of hot chocolate in front of him. It’s sweet and thick and perfect and Jimin glances at Yoongi’s back out of the corner of his eye with his nose buried into the cup. He closes his eyes, inhales the heavenly scent, and smiles silently to himself.

i honestly couldn’t tell you, but i suspect the answer is yes. 

read a lot. write a lot. when you read think about whether you want to see it written differently, and in what ways. when you read think about the things the author does in their writing that make you go “holy shit i could never pull that off” then try to pull it off in your own way.
