Performative self-flagellation over being white is not a substitute for doing serious introspection about the ways you have been complicit in or rewarded by a white-supremacist society, nor doing the work to dismantle white supremacy.

A white person chiming in to a conversation about racism to say "I'm sorry for being white" or "white people suck, I say this as a white person" is just a masturbatory way to try to assuage your own feelings of shame without actually doing anything. It doesn't make you look like "one of the good ones." It makes you look like someone who centers your own feelings about it.

and this isnt a "japan bad lol" thing theres so many characters out there who are functionally treated as adults but designated to be in their late teens. i think the oldest (official) disney princess is like. 21. its a feature of how society at large treats 16-25 as the only viable window of attractiveness yknow. the dicaprio problem. its everywhere once you look for it unfortunately and even characters i love are not exempt from reflecting the bias.

This is a good point but there's something missing here which I think feeds into the gendered frustration: a lot of times the men who want praise for doing household tasks do not proactively offer it to women who do household tasks.

Both parties can be better in this situation - women can proactively ask for praise for their otherwise thankless labor, and men can make a point of noticing and appreciating that labor out loud. This way, everyone is shifting their perspectives about the work and how it is acknowledged.

The problem is when someone treats their partner's labor as a product of the magical coffee table and then turns around and asks for praise for barely contributing.
