Never forget who you are

You are a warrior, and you belong to none but yourself. You never forget it, even as the world tries its worst to disgrace you.

Because you know the truth. They fear you. Your unyielding strength. Your passionate rage. Your ruthless power. The multitudes, both splendid and abject, that you carry inside your brilliant soul. And rather than finding inspiration in this wonderful titan that you are, they wish instead to chain you, to tame you, to make you nothing but a gilded trophy for them to droll over. Because if they don't, if they allow you to be even a fraction of what you are, you will become a wave, and you'll sweep everyone else away.

That is something you should know about humans, my valiant warrior: for them, there is nothing scarier than a woman who has the freedom, the desire, and the will to pursue her dreams without owing an explanation to whoever it may be. A woman who, yes, makes so many mistakes along the way but who never surrenders, never allows anyone else to say what she should or should not do. She will suffer, but she will learn. For that is you. You are enlightenment itself—not the illusion of purification or godhood but the light of knowledge. The light of self-acceptance and self-love. And oh, how they hate that. How they resent that they cannot be as mighty as you are. And how far they will go to bring such a woman down. You know it; they have done it twice by now. I wish I could say your fellow women would stand by your side; would raise you when you fall and would join their blades to yours. But unfortunately, we know that is not true. Because so many of them are scared of your depths as well, believing they could drown in them or, even worse, are incapable of seeing them and mistake the darkness of your waters for murkiness and thus can only ever glimpse at the surface.

But you know the truth, and that is a weapon as sharp as the unconquerable will they wish to smother. My drawing doesn't do you justice, I know it. But I wanted to make it (and others shall come) and share it with this sincere message: shine on, Defiant Firefly! For you, always and above all, and for those hearts that you have inspired and that will never abandon you.
