Greetings, creatures of the realms!
I am Ashrah Coliary [pronounced ah-sh-RAH soh-lee-AH-roo], a game and book writer with a passion for the fantastical! This blog is, for the most part, dedicated to Chronicles of the Realms, my original mythology inspired by wuxia/xianxia, Asian culture in general, and Dungeons & Dragons, and based on the universe of Mortal Kombat. I am currently posting and editing the chapters of the first book, Eternal Flame, and you can read this as well as some short stories already published here. I'm also creating content for MK Ashrah (Midway era, of course).
I like to yap a lot about Ashrah (and other stuff, so feel free to send questions/interact), but here is some basic lore about her:
She's a demon from a species called elbhyr [ele-ruir], which has an intrinsic connection to the Astral Plane, the realm of the spirits, and allows them to weave a second skin with spiritual thread based on a mortal creature of their choice;
She's an incredibly skilled fighter who also very much enjoys the adrenaline of combat and can be quite brutal!;
Her second skin is based on a group of Indonesian women she met while astral travelling outside the Netherrealm aka the Hells, and this is one of my favourite scenes I ever wrote (in Eternal Flame, chapter currently not published, but we'll get there!);
Her natural form is this:
For all the violence and bloodshed, her story is about love, and particularly self-love, and finding inner balance. "Purification" is never the true goal of her character;
Balance and embracing her amazing duality also means having this absolutely incredible dual form:
She is 93.653 Pulses old, or 16.203 Common years old;
She wields a sapient, snarky sword called Datusha, who I headcanon as having Willem Dafoe's voice 😄;
She ends up marrying a nensii called Nitara, but only after two and a half books of character development because real writers never sacrifice character for romance. And yes, Nitara is a gorgeous, tall, muscular "vampire" :3
And that's just the tip of this incredible iceberg that is Ashrah! For more, read Chronicles of the Realms! :D
I'm far more active on Bluesky, but I'd like to share some things here as well, including: snippets and chapter/short story links for CotR, virtual photography shots I take in the many games I take Ashrah to, and my drawings. I'm just a beginner artist, so don't expect beautiful art from me, but even though I'm self-conscious about my skills sometimes, I find it important to share, especially in a world filled with AI slop. Oh, yes, if you like the slop, don't follow me, or I'll block you straightaway.
Let me take this opportunity to get this out of the way so we avoid wasting each other's time and patience: Mortal Kombat 12 and the "new era" are not welcome here. What this means is: if you like the game and its characters, you are, of course, welcome to interact with me like anyone else, but I ask that you please don't bring any of it into my posts and that you never, ever compare my Ashrah to that other thing from said game who shares her name. They're not the same characters at all. An exception, however, is: if you support a certain so-called "ship" from MK12, please don't interact with me. I might detest the character herself for how shallow and generic and meaningless she is when she should be the best character in the entire universe, but I detest it even more when people don't respect her as her own person and objectify her as a sex doll for a pathetic lizard to drool over. That has never been my Ashrah. My Ashrah is a powerful, complex, independent warrior with enormous and wonderful lore to her name. And you narrative-illiterate clowns turned her into nothing but a sexual joke with no real goal, purpose, or personality (what even is this, right? As long as they're "hot," who gives a fuck about story and growth, right?). I have no respect for you, either, and you will be blocked regardless if you post or share this wet dream that a stupid, small man created and that for some reason you embraced (including so many women, which I'll never understand. We should be better. We should want better for our woman characters than having them become a trad Christian wife. She's not a character in a contemporary or woman's lit book. She's so phenomenally more than that, and the fact that you don't see it, that you don't give a fuck about how incredible she is, that you're just interested in her as someone's wife instead of in how much of a titan of a character she is... sincerely, it breaks my heart.)
Again, CotR is an original mythology, and it is populated by my versions of characters you may recognise by name but not by how I created them, particularly Ashrah, Nitara, and Sareena, whom I call my Big Three. You may notice that I even have exclusive hashtags for them, so this ensures that I won't step on your toes, and you won't step on mine (I am, however, still a big fan of the Midway era, so if you are, too, then you're most welcome here!); similarly, if I don't include the MK tag in my post, please don't include it in yours if quote-reposting.
