37. “Why are you touching me?”
Lorelai Sugar stormed into the room carrying various folders. The only other person there was Kyary, her niece-in-law and Chief Information Officer of Sugar Wiz Enterprises. Lorelai smiled at the woman. She was just who she wanted to speak to. “Good, you’re here,” she said. “I wanted to catch you before the board meeting.”
Kyary rolled her eyes, but replied, “What’d you want to know?” She was not Lorelai’s biggest fan.
“Simple. I want to know that we’re in this business together. That no matter what, this company has to stay in the family.” There weren’t a lot of people Lorelai cared about, but out of everyone she did, she cared about herself the most. And in order to continue living the lifestyle she wanted, she needed to make sure the company would stay in good hands.
“You want to know that I’ll vote for Stosh as CEO,” Kyary replied, not asking a question but merely stating what she suspected Lorelai was getting at. “He’s my husband. Of course I’m voting for him. He deserves to run Sugar Wiz.”
“Good, I’m glad we’re on the same page.” Lorelai put her arm on Kyary’s shoulder, a move she liked to use to let the other person know who was in charge. And Lorelai knew that with Stosh in place, she was the one who truly held the power. She knew Stosh was in over his head, and therefore easily influenced by someone more experienced.
“Why are you touching me?” Kyary asked, flicking Lorelai’s hand away. She’d always suspected the woman wanted to bed her, but Kyary would never do that to her husband. “Shouldn’t you be out mourning your brother? No one expects you back to work so soon.”
“Oh, dear Kyary. You’re so adorable, trying to tell me how I’m supposed to mourn.” Lorelai put the folders on the desk and went to sit at her usual chair. “Shouldn’t you be out comforting your husband on the loss of his father?” She smirked before turning toward the door, where another board member was coming in.
