Adam L.G. Nevill is an acclaimed English horror writer renowned for his gritty, atmospheric, and deeply unsettling contributions to supernatural and folk horror fiction. Born in Birmingham, England, in 1969, Nevill split his formative years between his home country and New Zealand. His exposure to different landscapes, coupled with a deep-seated interest in heavy metal subcultures and natural pastoral settings, heavily influenced the distinctive, cinematic environments of his later fiction. Before pivoting to writing full-time in 2009, he worked as an editor and even cut his teeth writing erotica and music reviews during the 1990s.
Nevill's extensive bibliography features several highly celebrated novels, including Banquet for the Damned, Apartment 16, The Ritual, Last Days, No One Gets Out Alive, and The Reddening. His work is frequently recognized by the broader genre community, earning him the British Fantasy Society's prestigious August Derleth Award for Best Horror Novel multiple times. Beyond his long-form fiction, Nevill is a master of short horror, with his 2016 collection Some Will Not Sleep clinching a British Fantasy Award for Best Collection. Seeking greater creative and financial freedom, he expanded into indie publishing in 2016 by founding his own imprint, Ritual Limited.
The dread-inducing, vivid storytelling in Nevill's catalog has also caught the eye of the film industry. The production company Imaginarium successfully adapted both The Ritual and No One Gets Out Alive into feature films, introducing his claustrophobic brand of terror to international screen audiences. Today, Nevill resides in Devon, England, where he continues to craft dark, speculative narratives and develop new projects for both the page and the screen.
A scene from the Warriors, The Prophecies Begin graphic novel series I really liked. Thought I'd draw it.

1986–2004
Daniel was born in Columbus, Ohio, to unremarkable parents. While they were average, Daniel was an anomaly from the start. By age four, he was already reading at a high school level; by eight, he had taught himself his first three languages (Latin, French, and German) simply by studying old books in the local library.
While other children were forming bonds, Daniel was conducting a long-term study on human behavior. He realized very early that his mind operated on a different frequency, and he treated his peers like a strange, loud species of primate.
By age seven, Daniel spent hours in front of his bedroom mirror. He didn't look at himself out of vanity; he was practicing facial symmetry. He would watch clips of news anchors and actors, mimicking the exact crinkle of the eyes that signaled "warmth" or the slight tilt of the head that suggested "empathy." He turned his personality into a piece of software before he ever touched a computer.
Daniel's parents thought he was a "quiet, bookish boy." In reality, he was systematically emptying the local library’s science and medical sections. By age ten, he had a functional understanding of the human nervous system. He would sit in the park and watch people, mentally mapping their muscle groups and imagining the "system failure" points of their bodies.
He realized early on that his lack of empathy made him different. Instead of struggling to fit in, he used his high intelligence to treat social interaction like a foreign language. He spent his teenage years practicing behavioral mimicry, learning exactly how to tilt his head or soften his voice to appear "normal."
Around the ages of 13-15 is when the physical gap between Daniel and his peers began to widen. It wasn't just that he was growing taller; he was becoming "dense."
During a middle school gym class, a teacher tried to demonstrate a wrestling hold on him. Daniel didn't think; he just reacted. He moved with a speed and raw power that nearly broke the man's arm. Instead of feeling guilty, Daniel felt a cold, sharp spark of satisfaction. He realized he didn't just have an intellectual advantage; he had a physical one.
He stopped speaking unless absolutely necessary. He found that the less he said, the more people projected onto him. Teachers thought he was "deep" or "thoughtful." He was actually just running predictive models on them, figuring out which ones were easy to manipulate and which ones were obstacles.
At age 16, he claimed his first victim—a boy named Tyler—a classic, loud-mouthed high school athlete who made the mistake of targeting Daniel for a week of "hazing."
Daniel didn't snap. He didn't get angry. He waited. He used his early digital infiltration skills to learn Tyler's schedule, his route home, and his habit of biking through a secluded wooded trail.
Daniel intercepted him on the trail. He didn't use a weapon; he wanted to feel the physics of it. He clotheslined Tyler off the bike, and as the boy lay gasping, Daniel knelt over him. He wasn't looking for a fight; he was looking for the injury.
He applied his knowledge of anatomy to snap Tyler's neck in a way that looked like a high-speed impact with a tree. Then, he spent twenty minutes meticulously arranging the bike and the body to match the trajectory of a wipeout.
The police called it a tragic accident. Daniel went to the funeral, wore his "sad face" perfectly, and realized that he felt... refreshed. He had removed a "bug" from his environment and gotten away with it.
By his senior year, Daniel had checked out. He realized that a formal education would only slow him down.
He began skipping school to spend time at a local scrapyard. He would spend hours lifting heavy engine blocks and metal beams, testing the limits of his strength in secret. This is where he developed the foundation for System Zero—realizing that traditional martial arts were too "theatrical" for someone who could simply crush a limb.
On the day of his high school graduation, while his parents were waiting for him to walk across the stage, Daniel was forty miles away in a different city, watching his second victim—a drifter no one would miss—to see if he could repeat the success of the first "accident." He did.
2004–2010
Daniel opted out of the university system, viewing it as too slow and rigid. Instead, he spent his early twenties drifting through the underbelly of the digital and academic worlds.
He spent 18 hours a day absorbing data—everything from orbital mechanics to forensic pathology. He realized that if he understood how the world was built, he could break it without leaving a trace.
He developed his skills in digital infiltration and IT security, realizing that being a freelance consultant gave him the perfect "invisible" life. It allowed him to move between cities, access private metadata, and work remotely while he "hunted."
2010–Present
By age 25, Daniel had refined his "work" into a ritual. He moved back to Columbus, purchasing a modest apartment with a heavily reinforced, soundproofed basement.
Over the next two decades, Daniel traveled globally under various aliases, using his numerous languages to blend into any culture. He began "collecting" different versions of people—corrupt politicians, arrogant athletes, or unlucky detectives.
He spent years deconstructing the 24 fighting styles he mastered to create System Zero, ensuring that no matter how much larger or better-trained an opponent was, they were structurally inferior to him.
Daniel lives a life of "Extremely Structured Boredom."
He wakes up, works on high-level security contracts, plays Rachmaninoff on his grand piano to maintain finger dexterity, and spends his evenings "scouting" metadata for his next project.
He doesn't like clutter. His apartment is minimalist and sterile.
He is honest with himself—he does it because he likes it. The world is too easy for him, and the act of a "clean kill" is the only thing that really gives him a rush.

Daniel likely started his "work" in his late teens or early twenties, giving him about 20 years of active operation. He has killed 84 people. This averages out to roughly 4 to 5 kills per year. This pace suggests he isn't a "spree" killer who acts on impulse. Instead, he is a "collector" who spends months selecting, stalking, and "studying" a victim before the final encounter. His early kills (the first 10-15) were likely his "experimental phase"—where he refined his Super Strength and learned anatomy. The later 60+ kills represent a master at work, where he is so efficient that law enforcement doesn't even realize the crimes are linked. He’s mentioned meeting "sixteen versions" of a specific type of person. A count of 84 allows him to have 4 or 5 distinct "categories" of victims that he has explored deeply.
Daniel likely views his "ledger" not by name, but by the data he extracted
The Arrogant: 22 (Testing how quickly "dominance" crumbles under physical structural failure)
The Intellectuals: 12 (Engaging them in their own fields (physics, law, tech) before showing them that their mind is useless against his strength)
The Inconsequential: 30 (Random "glitches" or thugs (like the garage encounter) that he cleared out simply because they were in his way or "boring.")
The Protected: 12 (High-profile targets or those behind security systems, killed specifically to prove his Digital Infiltration and Forensic Evasion skills)
The Anomalies: 8 (Victims who surprised him—the ones who didn't scream, or the ones who almost saw him coming. These are his "favorites.")
The most chilling part of Daniel’s count isn't the number itself, but the Classification:
Active Investigations: 0
Ruled as Accidents: 41 (Falls, "equipment malfunctions," drug overdoses via his chemical knowledge).
Missing Persons: 38 (Bodies dissolved or hidden using his geological and environmental knowledge).
Ruled as "Deal Gone Wrong": 5 (Like the garage thugs, framed to look like they killed each other).
Fighting Styles
Muay Thai: For the devastating power of elbows and knees—perfect for close-quarter bone breaking.
Lethwei: Known as the "Art of 9 Limbs," it includes headbutts, which Daniel utilizes with his high pain tolerance.
Dutch Kickboxing: For efficient, high-volume combinations that overwhelm an opponent’s guard.
Kyokushin Karate: To build the internal "hardness" and endurance required to take hits without flinching.
Boxing (Old School/Bare Knuckle): Specifically focused on the geometry of a punch and maximizing the force of his 215 lb frame.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (No-Gi): He uses this to understand joint limits—knowing exactly how much torque is required before a ligament snaps.
Sambo (Combat): A Russian system that combines wrestling and leg locks; Daniel values its aggressive, pragmatic approach.
Judo: He utilizes his height (6'3") and center of gravity to execute high-impact throws onto hard surfaces.
Catch Wrestling: An "old-school" brutal style focused on "hooks" and painful submissions that most modern fighters aren't prepared for.
Krav Maga: For its focus on ending a threat as quickly as possible using groin strikes, throat gouges, and eye pokes.
Systema: A Russian style focused on breath control and fluidity, allowing Daniel to stay "relaxed" while his opponents panic.
MCMAP (Marine Corps Martial Arts Program): He likely "absorbed" this from a victim with military training to understand how soldiers are taught to fight.
LINE System: A former Special Forces system designed for one purpose: killing the enemy silently and efficiently.
Kali/Eskrima/Arnis: Filipino stick and knife fighting. He applies his predictive modeling here to track weapon trajectories in real-time.
Silat: For its low-profile movements and focus on debilitating the nerves and tendons of the legs.
Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA): Specifically dagger and longsword work, purely for the "historical version" of combat he enjoys.
Pankration: An ancient Greek "all-powers" style that Daniel finds aesthetically pleasing in its raw brutality.
Keysi Fighting Method (KFM): A street-defense system used in close quarters (like the parking garage) that uses the "thinking man" guard to protect the head.
Aikido (Daito-ryu): He doesn't use the "peaceful" version; he uses the original, high-impact joint destructions to redirect an opponent's momentum into a wall.
If he's in a bar, he uses Boxing/Muay Thai.
If he's in his workshop, he uses Catch Wrestling/BJJ to pin a victim.
If he’s being hunted, he switches to LINE/Krav Maga for lethal efficiency.
His Tactical Replay memory allows him to "switch" between these styles instantly. He can throw a Muay Thai leg kick and transition into a Judo throw mid-motion, creating a hybrid style that no one can predict.
On top of that, he also has invented his own fighting style, System Zero (S-0)
Unlike traditional martial arts that focus on "honor" or "points," System Zero is built on three polymathic pillars: Anatomical Failure, Kinetic Economy, and Predictive Geometry.
Daniel doesn't aim for "soft tissue." Every strike in System Zero is designed to target a specific structural weak point he’s identified through his expertise in anatomy. The goal is not to "hurt," but to "decommission." Instead of a punch to the face, he uses a specialized palm-heel strike to the TMJ (the jaw hinge) or a downward "hammer-fist" to the collarbone. He knows exactly how many Newtons of force are required to turn a bone into powder.
Because of his strength, Daniel doesn't need "wind-up." System Zero ignores the traditional "chambering" of punches. His strikes often travel only 4–6 inches, and to an observer, it looks like he barely moved. To the victim, it feels like being hit by a high-speed train. He uses his weight (215 lbs) and his strength to create maximum damage with zero wasted energy.
Using predictive modeling, Daniel treats a fight like a 3D chess board. He doesn't "react" to a punch. He moves to the spot where the opponent's balance must shift to throw that punch. The result is that he is always in the "blind spot." He exploits the limits of human peripheral vision and reaction time, appearing to "glitch" out of view just as a strike is launched.
He uses his signature move, the Structural Reset, when he wants to end an encounter instantly. It’s a perfect fusion of his strength and his knowledge of the spine. Daniel steps inside the opponent's guard, placing one hand on the base of the skull and the other on the shoulder. He uses a specific "twist-and-drop" motion that utilizes the opponent's own body weight against their cervical vertebrae.
There are no "kiais" or shouting. Daniel fights in strategic silence, making the only sounds the mechanical failures of his opponent's body. If he’s fighting in a tight hallway, System Zero shifts to "Vertical Grappling." If he’s in an open field, it shifts to "Ballistic Interception." This style only works for someone with his specific pain tolerance, strength, and tactical replay memory. Anyone else trying it would snap their own tendons.
Given that Daniel stands 6'3" and weighs 215 lbs with a physical profile defined by Super Strength, his lifting capabilities far exceed those of a natural peak athlete or a standard bodybuilder.
For a man of his size who isn't "bulky" but "dense" and "curated," he wouldn't be lifting for show; he would be lifting for raw, explosive utility.
Bench Press: 750 lbs (Raw)
To put this in perspective, an elite, world-class natural lifter at his weight might bench between 400 and 500 lbs. Because of his extreme strength he essentially operates at the level of the greatest geared powerlifters in history, but without the supportive equipment or the massive, restrictive body mass. He doesn't just push weight; he uses his predictive geometry and knowledge of physics to find the perfect line of force. This level of strength explains how he can effortlessly lift a 200 lb man with one hand or rip a jaw from a skull. If he can bench 750 lbs, the resistance of human bone and ligament feels like wet cardboard to him.
Other Performance Metrics
Deadlift: 900+ lbs (He could likely lift the front end of a small sedan if needed).
Overhead Press: 450 lbs (He can lift a full-grown man over his head and toss him like a ragdoll).
Grip Strength: Off the charts. He doesn't just grab; he crushes. This is what allows him to turn a wrist into powder just by squeezing.
The most terrifying part is that he likely hides this strength. When he's at a public gym—if he goes at all—he probably only puts 225 lbs on the bar and "struggles" slightly with the tenth rep just to maintain his Behavioral Mimicry as a standard IT consultant.
He only accesses that 750-lb ceiling when the lights are off, the "System Zero" is active, and there's a victim in front of him that needs to be decommissioned.

The Tunguska event occurred on 30 June 1908 near the Podkamennaya Tunguska River in what is now Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia. Witnesses described a bright, sun‑like fireball crossing the sky before a powerful explosion at around 07:17 local time. The blast, estimated between 3–50 megatons of TNT, devastated approximately 2,150 km² (830 sq mi) of forest and felled an estimated 80 million trees. Although the region was sparsely populated, eyewitness accounts suggest that up to three people may have died.
Scientific consensus attributes the explosion to a meteor air burst, the atmospheric detonation of a 50–60 m stony asteroid traveling at roughly 27 km/s. The object is believed to have exploded at an altitude of 5–10 km, which explains the absence of an impact crater despite the immense shock wave that shattered windows and knocked people off their feet hundreds of kilometers away. The event remains the largest impact event in recorded history, though far larger prehistoric impacts—such as the Chicxulub event—are known from geological evidence.
The Tunguska explosion has become a central case study in planetary‑defense research. Its scale demonstrates that even relatively small near‑Earth objects can cause catastrophic regional damage without ever reaching the ground. Modern comparisons often reference the 2013 Chelyabinsk meteor, which was far smaller yet still caused widespread injuries, underscoring the importance of monitoring near‑Earth objects. The Tunguska event continues to appear in scientific literature, popular culture, and discussions about the risks posed by cosmic impacts.

1938 Soviet LK - First on the Moon (2005)
The LK (Lunniy Korabl) was the Soviet Union’s lunar lander, developed in the 1960s as part of several crewed lunar landing programs. Designed as the USSR’s counterpart to the American Apollo Lunar Module, it was a lightweight, single‑cosmonaut craft intended to ferry one person from lunar orbit to the Moon’s surface and back. Three uncrewed test flights of the T2K variant—Kosmos 379, 398, and 434—were successfully conducted in Earth orbit between 1970 and 1971, but no LK ever reached the Moon due to repeated failures of the N1 launch vehicle required for the mission.
The LK was part of the larger N1‑L3 lunar mission architecture, which paired it with the Soyuz 7K‑L3 (LOK) command ship. After arriving in lunar orbit, a cosmonaut would perform a spacewalk from the LOK to the LK, separate from the Blok D stage, and descend toward the surface. The lander relied on the Blok E propulsion system for both terminal descent and ascent, making it a compact, integrated design compared to the two‑stage Apollo LM. Its small size and limited payload capacity meant that only minimal surface activities—such as planting a flag, collecting samples, and deploying small instruments—were envisioned.
Although the LK completed development and demonstrated its capabilities in orbital tests, the program was ultimately cancelled. The N1 rocket suffered four consecutive launch failures, and the success of Apollo 11 in 1969 reduced the political urgency of a Soviet lunar landing. With both the N1 and LK programs terminated, the Soviet crewed lunar effort ended without attempting a landing, leaving the LK as a fully developed but never flown lunar lander.

Finished drawing this in time for the Chernobyl disaster's 40th anniversary!
Mechanical pencil on printer paper. Colors inverted digitally and lighting slightly adjusted.
The Chernobyl disaster occurred on 26 April 1986, when Reactor No. 4 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant near Pripyat, then part of the Soviet Union, exploded during a late‑night safety test. The accident resulted from a combination of reactor design flaws and operator errors, leading to a sudden power surge, steam explosions, and the destruction of the reactor building. A subsequent core fire released massive amounts of radioactive material across the Soviet Union and Europe, making it one of only two INES Level 7 nuclear accidents in history.
In the immediate aftermath, two workers were killed by the explosion, and 28 more died within months from acute radiation syndrome. A large-scale emergency response mobilized over 500,000 personnel, and evacuations began 36 hours after the accident, eventually displacing more than 100,000 people from the expanding exclusion zone. Radioactive fallout contaminated large areas of Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia, with long-term health effects including increased rates of thyroid cancer, especially among children exposed to radioactive iodine.
Long-term consequences remain difficult to quantify. While roughly 60 deaths are directly attributed to immediate radiation exposure, estimates of future cancer-related deaths vary widely, from 4,000 among the most exposed populations to higher, more uncertain projections across Europe. The disaster caused extensive environmental contamination and remains the worst nuclear accident in history, with economic costs estimated in the hundreds of billions of dollars.
