Devil Engine will be released February 21st for Nintendo Switch and Steam!

It’s been a long time coming (thanks Nintendo) but the end’s finally in sight! We’ll be doing some extra stuff over on twitter leading up to the launch, so check over there for some more info and webms and junk.

Game’s still done, we’re at the last step of waiting on Nintendo before we can officially peg a date down. EXA version’s coming along and there should be some more news on that soon here.

We’re gold!

Quick development update; Game’s 100% done. Solid gold mastered, translations are done, T’s dotted and i’s crossed, etc.

Problem now’s that we have to sit and wait for ratings boards (mostly CERO) and console manufacturers to sign off on it, and that process takes foreeeever.

So sit tight readers, the time’s not going to waste. EXAciting new content’s heating up in the meantime.

Post demo update

I'm overjoyed about how positive the reception from the demo was. With over 500 entries on the steam leaderboards and a ton more downloads, looks like a lot of you were super down with the devil.

Unfortunately I've got good news and bad news, so let's get the bad out of the way;

The PC version's not coming this year. The decision was made to push it back to be a simultaneous release with the console version (Which should be early next year). The initial plan was to put it on PC first as a test to see what needed polishing for the console versions, but Dangen convinced me (with NUMBERS and STATISTICS) that this'd be a bad idea in the long run. The original planned release date was actually October 16th, but as you can see by the demo it needs some polish around the edges first (And if you were following along on twitter, my computer also ate shit right before the demo's release, which would have been even worse if it was the full game instead).

The good news: We've taken the opportunity to integrate what was going to DLC that was going to ship with the console version into the main game. We won't detail exactly that entails yet, but it's a pretty significant chunk of content that I think you're gonna have a blast with. To tease your curiosity more, we even got another guest musician specifically for the new stuff! We're also applying a general coat of polish all over the game, so in the end I think it'll turn out for the best.

As always, thanks for playing and sticking with the development! We’ve got some other stuff in the pipe I can’t talk about, so stick with us as we bunker down to get this sucker done!

The newest, shiniest, finaliest demo for Devil Engine will be going up on steam this Friday, 12/10!

It’s based off the build at Tokyo Game show with some changes and additions from the feedback there. The biggest addition however is online leaderboard support! Compete against the world for score supremacy! Or just your friends! Or just turn steam off and compete with nobody! (Local leaderboards aren’t in this build, they’re super buggy)

I’ve also put together a quick demo FAQ here in the steam discussions (Which Tumblr for some reason refuses to let me link?). No comprehensive change log this time since it’s there’s been a metric ton of changes since last year, you’ll just have to play and see!

So this is the video game that I’ve been working on and now am happy to announce is actually coming out!

I had a lot of fun drawing, animating and writing for the project so I hope you will enjoy playing it. 

In the far future a single ship desperately tries to defeat humanities misguided creation but at what cost? Devil Engine is a high octane, classic styled side scrolling shoot-em-up heavily influenced by the best in the genre from the 32-bit era, featuring a variety of incredible locations, hand drawn pixel art, and a blood-pumping soundtrack that brings the dark future to life.

Preparing for launch.

You know that awkward period where all the work being done is maximum spoilers? That’s us right now. We do have something important to say though:

Devil Engine will be at Tokyo Game Show 2018! There will be another new demo of course; Come check that out September 20th-23rd. The game will also be at the BitSummit Roadshow Tokyo on September 19th. BitSummit 2018 was so cool, they’re invading other conventions now!

For everyone at home we’ll finally be dropping something big we’ve been saving. Finally. For real this time, I swear.

Starting off strong (turn the sound on!)

The fabled stage 1 remake’s here! It’s a fresh coat of slightly different colored paint, a reworking of various parts of the stage, and general polish that it was needing back in 2017.

Also: some good news and bad news. Bad news first: We were originally going to have a booth at PAX west (prime), but due to a change in policy all of Dangen got jipped out of it. So unfortunately you can’t come bug me and the Fight Knight devs in Seattle this September (please, hit up the Pinball Museum in my stead). Good news: This means we’re doubling down on another convention. A certain show. In Tokyo. That has games.

There also might be a little something before then. Keep an ear out for it.
