DAY 1492) Devil Engine - Jazzy NNYC (STAGE 2)
Composer: Joseph Bailey (Qwesta)
Another track from this amazing soundtrack that I posted a different one from a while back, still one of my favorite VGM soundtracks of 2019 if not my favorite, and this is probably my single favorite piece of music of 2019 so far!!!
This could be interpreted a number of ways because of how loose/blurry some of the barlines are, lots of stuff goes over the barline, but I asked qwesta personally and his intent was basically 7/8 all the way through mostly, though there’s a few interruptions to that:
1 single 4/4 bar at :32-:34 (2:12 - 2:14)
1 single 15/16 bar right before the loop at 1:40 (3:19), this is extremely subtle and I almost did not notice it!
also the transition around ~:38 (~2:18) is a little odd, though it still works out if you keep counting 7/8 all the way through, but i imagine some might want to write that a bit differently
but man this is definitely one of THE most fluid examples of 7/8 i’ve ever even seen in a piece of music, it feels so natural and at so many parts I just interpret it as syncopated 4/4 or something because it’s so smooth and natural feeling
anyways happy day/month 7/8 time day!!!!
I drew some Devil Engine fanart!
It’s a great game made by cool people, so go buy it:

Devil Engine is a very cool hardcore side scrolling shoot ‘em up in which your combos can be sacrificed to execute a bullet absorbing burst in times of danger.
