Ever since moving to Costa Serena for college, it has become one of Gadget’s New Year traditions to ride the ferris wheel at the Harbor Carnival and today, she was about to ride her bike to the Shore so that she can carry out that tradition. Before she can leave though, she spotted a familiar face walking toward her. “Hi! I haven’t seen you since last year.” She laughed. “Okay, that was a bad joke. How were your holidays?”

“Fine. I spent most of them with Matt and his grandpa... And I decorated for the first time.” She admitted, not feeling too embarrassed. “And I visited my brothers for New Years, tried to convince them to come here... Again. And I think I failed. Again.” Shock added, her eyes going down to the floor for a moment, she was still a little down because of it.

Shay looked around the street, taking in all the Christmas decorations. She was annoyed at how hard she was actively trying not to smile. Since when had she become someone who grinned at Christmas decorations? Ugh. Still, she wished her brother’s could be here. But she had Matt and her friends. Her knock on Shenzi’s door was a little more agressive than necessary, but the blonde had to compensate for all those gross, gooey feelings inside her. “Open up before I’m permanently blinded by the Christmas’ lights!”

She took the last drag of her cigarette and her eyes focused on the people milling about the park. It was quite full for the time, she would’ve thought people would have had more to do on a Friday night. Her eyes focused on her mark, the man she was supposed to follow around for a couple of blocks, make sure he got the money to where it was owed, and sighed. These jobs were getting more and more boring, something she wouldn’t have thought possible before. But alas. As the older man moved to leave, the blonde threw the cigarette but in the trash and took a quick sip of her flask. She was about to follow him when she noticed someone seemed to be staring at her. “Can I help you?” She asked menacingly, turning to look at the person whose eyes bore into her back.

The fear, the fear of falling apart…” Matt’s fingers gradually stopped moving until they hovered over the keys; he took a deep breath and whipped his head back and forth, he was able to both rearrange his hair and get rid of the remaining energy in one motion. “What do you think, babe? Objectively. Axe or EP material?” He looked towards the spot Shay was sitting, smiling at her as if he’d just seen her for the first time. “I trust your say in this more than I do mine.” (Song)

Shock had been listening intently, unable to keep the smile form her lips as she focused on him and the music. She took another long drag of her cigarette and extinguished it in the ashtray before letting her eyes focus on his. “Honestly?” It took her a moment to reply, she let the suspense build a little and then broke into an even bigger grin. “I love it, the lyrics are very deep.” She replied. “And you voice sounds amazing, as always.” She stood up and moved to sit beside him at the piano. “When did you even have time to do all this?” The question came softly as she rested her head on his shoulder.

Diana spent the last few weeks travelling the world, alternating between vacations and formal dinners meant to make sure the law firm’s clients were happy with how their cases were handled. It was easy work–her mother had always taught her how to twist her words so that people hear what they want to hear. Though, nearly two months away from her apartment was too much, and she was happy to have spent the night in her own bed, not having to speak with anyone. The next morning was another story as she didn’t have anything to eat or any coffee to brew, so she had to set out on the town to buy what she’d need for the week. Diana was leaving the cafe, ready to head to the grocery store when someone bumped into her, causing a little spillover from the top of her cup on to her dress. “You are lucky this dress is dark,” she seethed, looking down at the emerald dress now hiding the coffee stain. “It’s Dior.”

Shock recognized the dark haired woman, it had been a while since she’d seen her around and she was glad for the opportunity to catch up with her. The blonde stubbed her cigarette and picked up her pace, heading towards her with a smile, that turned into a slight frown as she saw the young man crash into her friend. Diana’s word make her smirk, but she moved quickly, pulling the man by the back of his shirt and glaring at him. “If you know what’s good for you, you’ll leave now.” She advised him, turning to Diana with another smile. “So, back from the trip, or should I say trips?”

Astrid had been spending most of her time focused on her studies this semester as she knew she needed the rely on finding a job under Exercise Science–the AU football team took a chance on putting her on the team, but she knew she likely wouldn’t be as lucky with the pros. Now that it was nearly summer, she picked up on her training, running through town. After a few miles, she’d gotten lost completely in thought and turned a corner too quickly, nearly running into someone. Instinct allowed her dodge them quickly, but it took her a few steps to slow down. Astrid took a deep breath and removed her headphones before turning around and preparing herself for a conversation. “You okay?”

Shock looked up from her phone with a groan. “I’ve been better.” She replied, not sure why this girl was talking to her. She’d been to busy text-fighting her boss to notice their almost collision. “Why?” She asked a little suspiciously.

“Last pic? I’ll join you. I’ve been meaning to fill out that frame.” Matt replied and then grinned in anticipation, taking the crown from Shay so he could place it over her head. “Can’t see any silly here, just velvet lips and the eyes to pull me in.” He leaned in and kissed her forehead, smile growing impossibly wider. Matt took the pair of sunglasses for himself, taking notice their turn had finally come around. “Well, babe, it’s showtime.” He pulled the booth’s curtain, stepping aside for Shay.

“Really? Don’t you wanna make the peace and rock signs? They fit your vibe more.” She teased, leaning against him. She looked down as he placed the crown of her head, amazed at how okay she was with this whole thing. If her old self had seen her, all her fake piercings would have fallen out from the shock of it. She chuckled at the thought. “That’s because you’re seeing through rose colored glasses.” She joked, but she couldn’t help the happy blush creeping up her cheeks. The blonde nodded, giving him a serious look and a military salute. “Let’s go.” She replied as she stepped in, moving to the side to let him get in after her, one hand securing the crown to her head.

Vitani smirked when the guy finally left but she was confused as to why the girl was still there.  “Why are you still here?”

“Because I want to be?” The blonde replied, kicking her feet back and taking out her book and her back of cigarettes. “I’ve got time to kill before my next job.” She said, lighting a cigarette and quirking an eyebrow at Vitani. “Plus you can’t say I’m blocking the sun for you, I’m on the other side.”

“The real question here is…” Matt, despite having a gold feather boa over his shoulders, kept up his solemn expression; thoughtfully looking over the props that were carefully arranged in the setup just outside the photo booth. “Will you join me with the alien sunglasses or are you more of a clown wig person?”

Shay grimaced. “Neither. Can’t I just use my middle finger as an accessory?” She asked hopefully, already knowing the answer. After careful consideration she picked up a tarnished crown. “How about this? It’s silly enough, right?” She asked, finding it hard to believe that the words were coming out of her mind. “You look cute with your boa.”

“If I knew you were going to be this loud, I never would have invited you over.” Despite the serious look on her face, Shenzi was just joking. Her apartment need a different noise than the music she has been listening to. “I can’t assure you that I can always be around so you really need to find a different source of laughter. It’ll be sad if you don’t.” She took a sip of her own beer then. “Law school has been taking up my time, you?

“Well you certainly knew, this is not the first time we’ve hung out. So I guess you don’t really mind it so much, do you?” The blonde teased with a warm smile. “I have a boyfriend and people to torture, I’ll be fine. I just also happen to enjoy your company, Mrs. Feisty.” Finally a grimace. “Work. The undercover one.” She grumbled. “How is law school, though?” She stood up and took a couple of beers out of the fridge. “I’m glad I brought the extra six pack. No need to go out with all those idiots at the carnival.”

Shock let out a loud laugh at the latest remark, pushing her long blonde hair out of her face and back to the tangled bun at the top of her head. “Shit, no wonder I missed you. Basically no one else around here can make me laugh at anything but their own stupidity.” She took a long gulp from her dark beer. “So what’s up? What else have you been doing lately?”

Shay looked up from her phone to glare at the guy. “Yeah, dude. Move or fuck off!” She muttered in agreement, giving him a menacing glare as she saw him slink away. “Much better.”

“The celebration being my untimely burning once I set foot on the premises.” Lucien replied nonchalantly, flicking off the remainders of the glitter off of his hands as best he could. “Ah, of course; I appear to be defenseless in that department. Disgraceful.” He signaled at his trench coat, no hood to rely on. “I will never, for the life of me, comprehend the appeal of these festivities.” Lucien chuckled dryly at Shay’s pat. “May we go someplace else? I have the most bizarre urge to lay down in the middle of the street and test my patience.”

“Why? It’s probably the real Sin City of the world, the most important members of the clergy live there. Who knows what shit they pull.” The blonde took a small step back, scared some of the shiny stuff would cling to her clothes or hair. “You could’ve gone with the threatening, might’ve worked on it’s own.” She pointed out. “I think people just like the excuse to go out and forget the lives they lead for a while.” She chuckled. “You would sooner drown on glitter than get the outcome you were thinking about. Let’s go to The Sandbar.”

“Then I don’t know how to help you,” she said with a shrug. Andrina took another sip of her coffee before raising an eyebrow. “Ah, so you’re teaching yourself, then. At that point, it’s either time to talk to the Dean of the school, or you just decide not to give a shit and do the work, but talk back to him in class.”

“I’ve tried the talking back, but it’s this random substitute asshole that is just staying for this semester, so he doesn’t really give a shit about his rep. He can and will fail me under false pretenses if he gets pissed, even if I do the work.” Shock grimaced as she considered the rest of her options, she knew Adrina was right. “Yeah, talking to the Dean is the logical course but the Dean isn’t particularly fond of me... Or my record.” As she thought of this, a small smirk appeared on her face. “She’s probably fond of you, though...”

“‘Probably make it’ doesn’t exactly sound like a ringing endorsement, but I’m kind of tempted to do it anyways, you know?” Anna giggled just a bit, thinking over what the other had said. “I think I’d like to keep my fingers and toes, but you know what this means–it’s hypothetically possible for us to do it without training. We’d obviously be better with training, but it’s not impossible.”

“Okay...” Shay replied, quirking her eyebrows. The girl seemed innocent enough at first glance but there was clearly a little recklessness in her. “And you`re planning on doing this on your own? Or would you at least bring some company?” She stared at her. “Us? So now we’re climbing it together?” She asked, her tone neutral, although there was a small smile on her face.

“Babe, babe.” Matt said with bright eyes, automatically leaving the guitar hanging off from its strap as his arms found their way over Shay’s waist. “MCR is back! Are you booked December 20th cause this is my formal notice I’m stealing you away. How does an LA Devotee week sound, hm?” He said with a little wiggle of his eyebrows; her comment only made him lean in, placing a small kiss on her nose. “Don’t say that, we would never have enough time to unpack why I’m suddenly attracted to out of the ordinary– no, extraordinary reindeers.” Matt teased, shrugging lightly. “I’m just happy no one’s heckled me out of town yet; I’m all yours to deal with now.” He grinned brightly.

Shay giggled, a gesture that would’ve normally been highly unlikely in her, since she tried to evade such things. But she couldn't’ help it when she was with Matt. “Oh, really? I had no idea, that’s fucking awesome!” She’d liked the group, even if she’d never been a huge fan. But she knew he was, so she was excited for him too. “It sounds perfect. Nice tittle for the weekend, by the way. You should use that in a song or somethin’.” The blonde closer her eyes, enjoying the warmth of the kiss. Her smile softened. “Okay, I will keep that in mind, maybe find some sort of nose warmer.” She joked. “I sincerely doubt anyone would want to do that. To me maybe, but not to you.” She started walking. “Wanna go to the park? I think they have one of those outdoor movie nights today, we could check out what’s on.”
