TADC Episode 9 Spoilers!!!!!!!
Oh so gooseworx is like, a misogynist misogynist, huh? A transmisogynist at that, too. Does the way she handled Jax feel like injecting her own self into the character due to her own self-loathing and internalized transmisogyny? I mean, she described Jax as her self insert after all. It feels like the way she wrote Jax in 9 was so disconnected and different to the rest of the show, and to not even commit to her being trans in the real world was a bafflingly bad decision.
In the big ‘26, and one of our most prolific and popular transfem representations is a raging, violent, misogynistic abuser who relishes in tormenting and imagining violently choking out women and sexually coercing others. I’m sure this will go well in certain spaces.
This is deadass NOT the same character from Episodes 1-8 at all. Why bother trying to redeem them in the rest of the show just to pull the rug out from underneath us in the final second to just kill her? She faces no actionable consequences to her actions, she doesn’t have to live with the guilt or shame of what she did and how she treated everyone else. Fucking CAINE comes back and takes her place and gets her redemption arc.
One of the worst parts too is how relatable her backstory was. Shitty home life, abusive mother that when Jax tried coming out to her, did nothing but berate her, mock her, bully her for being “less than a man”, just to end it by trying to hug her and act like nothing happened.
Then on the other hand… there’s what happened to Ribbit. Jax confided all of this history, this trauma and guilt into someone who showed her nothing but love and kindess, just to, fuckin idk, get mad at her for being kind and accepting of her identity and drive her to kill herself.
It feels like Goose doubled down on self-sabotaging her own creation to completely undermine her own character writing, by making a nonsensical character arc end with her fucking dying. Fucking Leeroy Mateo had a better life because fuckin, idk, she stayed in the closet and became a delivery driver.
Genuinely what kind of message does that send to the audience? Remember, if you have trauma, if you had a hard life and suffered, if you dealt with your own internal problems that bled out into making you a worse person, and struggled with your gender identity, stay in the closet. Don’t bother coming out. And if you do? Regress and regress and eventually kill yourself, because that’s the only way you’ll find peace.
I could talk about so much more, like the hilariously misplaced usage of a song made by a black man for his newborn daughter in a goddamn FunnyBunny montage, or the way that Jax fantasized about sexually abusing Gangle, and the wider conversation of how her abuse towards Gangle was played as a joke, and the racist connotations via the authorMs internalized biases and racism that come with it when confirming Gangle as a POC, the mocking of Zooble by wearing the maid dress (which was just cheap fucking fanservice btw) but that’s a whole other post that deserves its own piece.
The whole thing that Goose said about how in 9, “Jax fans will still love him, and Jax haters will still hate him” is such disingenuous bullshit. To be absolutely clear, Jax used to be a character I really liked. I still like Episodes 1-8 and her character in that. What I hate is episode 9 and her character there. I can’t see actual Jax fans liking the direction of this writing, of this character. It feels so out of left field and completely trashing anything this character originally was. The haters will still hate her, because why wouldn’t they??? They gave Jax NO sympathy, no reasonable way of fixing and owning up to their shit, instead opting for suicide being the answer to it all, only to be kept as a lobotomized pet with, I guess no hope at rescuing. Cause abstractions can’t be undone because Goose said so I guess.
At this point Goose says so much shit about this show, that does any of it even matter anymore? The fans have a better understanding of how to write nuance, accountability, and redemption for this character than Goose ever did. They know how to write Jax in character more than Goose ever could. It’s a shame to see an incredibly nuanced, damaged, traumatized, and abusive character that was set up to be redeemed go down the route of “Suicidal character dies at the end” all whilst tarnishing what made them good in the first place.
The fix-it fics are gonna go crazy for this show.
Oh and also, one last thing. The fucking merch advertisement at the end of the movie showing different Jax merch like?? Y’all JUST killed her, y’all MURDERED that trans woman and buried her so far under the digital concrete you’ll never even know the corpse was there. And you have the GALL to advertise me merch about her?? Genuinely go fuck yourselves Glitch, you misogynistic and transmisogynistic sympathizing fucks. You don’t have the right to dangle her corpse in front of everyone and sell it as marketable clothing and keychains.
