Trainwreck

The man in the mirror sometimes smiles at me like a clueless puppy in a trainwreck

My body is a trainwreck

My chest is on fire

My fingers fidget like survivors

My eyes slant at the weight of destruction

My nose is completely demolished, it is almost non-existant

My palms are burnt, It can't hande too much

I am deeply insecure

So deep I'm my own wishing well

I wish I knew more things

I wish I wasn't lost

I wish someone would take me home

eventhough all i can do is find the courage to smile like a lost puppy in a trainwreck.

My Moustache

Starting tomorrow I will be trying to dish out one poem a day for the whole month of November and if I am successful I will turn it into a chap book and call it "My moustache".

Kinda late but UP FROM THE ROOTS got 2nd at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word !! I'm so proud of my team!! Edmonton deserves the win ! It was an amazing experience being able to compete with such amazing people. I got to meet a great deal of AWESOME friends. I am so thankful for my first CFSW experience.

10 hours of sleep and I'm still tired.

Sandcastles.

I am building a sandcastle

Only to be destroyed by the ocean’s waves

And when it does

I will start again

Grab my bucket and go

Start digging through the sands

Like my dreams were buried in the rubble of my past

I will shovel through the damage

Find hope hiding in tiny seashells

I will kiss the seashore

More times than the sea

And I swear the sky will be green with envy

There is a breeze that whispers secrets of wisdom

Like with each crumbling kingdom

There is a lesson to be found

Hidden right underneath my toes

I can feel something in the sand

Sometimes it’s gravesite junkyards

Other times it is the smoothest stone

On the roughest days

Today I found David’s lucky stone

Made a wish and flung it into the ocean

It didn’t hit the Goliath of my insecurities

But I felt bad ass

So now I’m ready to start building again

A sandcastle

That I will someday offer to the ocean with open arms

Because sometimes

We need to let ourselves go

Stand bare foot by the seashore

And let the waves comfort our soles/souls

Because some days

There’s not enough dance

To keep the music in my heartbeat

My conductor’s wrist feels the weight of incomplete

There is too much work and not enough fun

The way this spine bends backwards into a frown

Sometimes lonely is the only word that fits

To describe a sunset

So I made a promise that I will someday show the sunset the most breathtaking girl

And it will smile

And the horizon will be jealous for not being close to her

And most days I’m letting my Joshua tree grow in prayer

I found God somewhere in between the sea and the sky

So I’m reaching forwards

Because there’s too many words and not enough poetry

I am looking for a treasure chest for two

I am an ocean looking for a shore to come back to

I will not sink on a quicksand sorrow

I will smile a sunset for tomorrow

And I will build a sandcastle with my dreams

It will stand tall

Better than the last one

I will put my secrets in its chambers

I will let the 5 year old next to me marvel at the creation

I will be satisfied with myself

I will thank the kid for the company

As we watch the leviathan sea swallow the sand castle whole

And everything will be okay

because by then the sunset has kissed the ocean in the distance

and the ocean has whispered my dreams into the sun.
