Adventures in Life and Photography with @hokaytokay
Learn more about Amanda’s work in this video feature by Like Knows Like, produced by filmmaker Bas Berkhout (@bas_berkhout) and photographer Marije Kuiper (@marijekuiper). For more of Amanda’s explorations in light and pattern, follow @hokaytokay on Instagram.
Just over a year ago, at the age of 20, Amanda Jasnowski (@hokaytokay) left her home in Ohio to pursue photography in New York City.
For Amanda, whose photos explore light and patterns, Instagram provides an outlet for daily creation. “The constant practice of taking photos every day has really helped me grow as a creative and helped further my aesthetic,” says Amanda. “If for some reason you find yourself scrolling far back through my feed you can see the way my style has evolved. It’s a good timeline.”
Amanda’s feed is also a documentation of the beauty found in everyday life. Speaking about her photos, she says: “More than anything I hope people take away a sense of appreciation of the small things in life and the beauty that is here if you are looking. I think most of my images are fairly simple and playful, lots of documenting. Humanity is a beautiful thing.”
Collaborating with and learning from others is central to Amanda’s work, and the Instagram community has been a major source of inspiration. “The support and encouragement that I’ve found through Instagram was a big influence in giving me the courage to move away from home last October. I continue to be thankful for the support and excited by this creative community I’ve grown to be a part of.”
