COMING AT YOU LIVE FROM KINGSBURY BLVD: BFF CAPSTONES ARE COMPLETE @patricia_witt_ ⚠️👯💫 #feelingsick (at Capstone Gold)
@patriciawitt and I went to the binder this morning to put our finishing touches on my capstone! We’d gone to the binder yesterday morning to have them finish off the job but we were informed that the inserts (which are the exact height of the book but a shorter width) would need to be organized and inserted after they cut down the pages to the real book size. That’s what we went and did today. Good old fashioned teamwork. Couldn’t have done it without her.
Printing Problems
Went to Marvel with Patricia and the prints came out amazing except for the fact that my statistics pages are also supposed to be dark navy and for some reason, the ones with pie charts are printing black no matter what. I tried printing at school on multiple printers and playing with the colors and the background is continuously printing darker. The only solution is deleting the pie charts. Something must be weird with the way they’re embedded. Of course this is happening last minute...I’m panicking...

TOMORROW WE PRINT FOR REAL
One of the last infamous checklists. Can’t be written daintily or it doesn’t work. Blank paper and a Sharpie, please! Might even be the very last one...

Photo Organization
This is what the organizational system of a crazy person looks like when they have 144+ photos that have to be dropped in and never repeated!!!! I find drawing things out by hand is sometimes easier than trying to find a digital, “easier” way to organize. This helped me keep all of my crowdsourced photos in order, somehow...

A spread from Section 3: Over on the potential vices of text-based communication.
State of the Union 3/27 (Part 2)
What’s in progress? What’s left to do?
-Rag page 130 through end
-Drop in final couple of photos
-Review pull quote treatment on interview spreads
-Double check no images were repeated
-Reread anecdotes on inserts
-Reread personal thoughts pages
-Review infographic text positioning
-Add text to the couple of pages with weird hang lines
-Check marginalia
-Make sure everything’s as close to perfect as detectable by the human eye
-Take it to Marvel early Thursday morning to do the test print
State of the Union 3/27 (Part 1)
On Friday, my friend @patriciawitt and I went to Marvel (the printer we want to use) and talked to one of the owners about printing options and looked at paper stock. Being that I have some full-bleed black spreads and just generally saturated colors, I chose a thicker paper to prevent any bleed through. Also I chose a slightly more glossy paper to reinforce the modern, tech-centric subject matter. I’m having the books perfect bound with a slightly thicker card stock softcover, also glossy. The guy at Marvel was really helpful in showing us all of the color options and paper weights available and making sure we had all of the information before making any selections. He told us what kind of things we had to do to our documents before handing the final versions over to the printer and we left feeling much better about the actual production phase of things.
THE DESIGNER AT WORK
Here is a rare photo of me smiling at my desk while working on capstone. Clearly I was caught off guard.
