I might be a bit late to this particular discourse, but I think the thing that’s forgotten most about Borderlands is the fact that Pandora is a place of such immense tragedy (and intentional destruction by the Dahl corporation) that all it’s inhabitants can really do anymore is laugh. I think that feeling was fairly strong in the first game, and has been slowly lost ever since.
