Today I went to Chinatown with the SPG to ring in the year of the Dragon. The deal is that local kung fu groups perform the lion dance throughout Chinatown's streets. The "lion" visits each restaurant. The restaurant owner comes to the door and to feed the lion, which bows in gratitude and then performs a special dance, accompanied by clashing cymbals, drums, gongs and firecrackers to scare away evil spirits.

Supposedly, 2012 is the "year of the dragon" which is associated with wealth, power and courage. In ancient times the dragon was a symbol reserved for the Chinese emperor. It is a sign of much future success.

I closed out the day with a Saporro and my first hot pot meal at a place called Shabu Zen with two new friends from the group = )
