The City of Atlanta Georgia has decided to demolish the research and conservation center of the Amphibian Foundation. This organization works tirelessly to conserve the Frogs, Toads, Salamanders, Newts, and other amphibians in the United States. In addition, they provide key education for herpetologists on the care, conservation, and preservation of reptiles and amphibians.
This emergency need is compounded by the government mass firing of conservation officials and the pulling of funds from many of the country's conservation organizations.
If you can help please donate here:
The building where AF is located will be demolished in June 2026.
Key points from the Amphibian Foundation.
Our building will be demolished in 2026, and we need to identify a new location (or locations) for 7 labs and over 1,000 animals, many of which are endangered and part of critical conservation programs.
We've identified a new location for most of AF, but not our research and conservation programs. We have an amazing lead, but it's not confirmed yet.
Our first fundraising project is the AF Emergency Fund as the minimum cost estimates to move this many labs and animals safely is $50,000. (It costs about 50 USD per animal to move them)
If you can't donate.. please share... here.. and everywhere else.

The Slow, Sterile Murder of Halloween: Why Your Trunk-or-Treat is the Crime Scene
I remember the magic. The crisp autumn air biting at my cheeks, the crunch of fallen leaves underfoot, and the electric thrill of ringing a neighbor's doorbell. The porch light would flick on, the door would creak open, and a friendly, familiar face would greet us with a smile and a bowl of candy. That was Halloween. It was a night of shared spooky stories, community connection, and genuine, uncurated fun.
Now, I look at what Halloween has become, and my heart sinks. We’ve traded the sprawling, mysterious neighborhood adventure for the sterile asphalt of a church parking lot. We’ve replaced face-to-face interactions with filtered TikTok videos. We are systematically killing Halloween, and we’re doing it under the guise of safety and convenience.
But I’m here to tell you that this modern version isn’t safer. It isn’t better. It’s a hollow imitation, and we are raising a generation of children—Gen Alpha—who will never know the real magic because their parents have embraced a convenient lie.
Michael Myers is Not the Halloween Bogeyman
We’ve been conditioned to fear the shadows. The media, from every political angle, loves to spin tales of poisoned candy and stranger danger lurking on suburban streets. But the data has repeatedly shown that these fears are wildly overblown. The real bogeyman isn't a masked killer hiding in the bushes.
No, the modern Michael Myers—the silent, relentless force murdering Halloween—is your smartphone.
Specifically, it’s the performative culture of platforms like TikTok. Halloween has devolved into a content-creation opportunity. Parents are more concerned with capturing the perfect, viral-worthy video of their child's costume than with watching their child experience the world around them. This isn't community; it's an audience. There is no "TikTok Halloween community" because a community requires presence, interaction, and shared experience—not just shared hashtags. We are so absorbed in broadcasting our lives that we’ve forgotten how to simply live them.
Trunk-or-Treating Versus Trick-or-Treating: The Dangerous Reality We Now Live In
The rise of "trunk-or-treating" is perhaps the most visible symptom of this disease. Marketed as a safe alternative to traditional trick-or-treating, it is, in reality, a Trojan horse of hidden dangers wrapped in a family-friendly bow. Parents flock to these events, believing the contained environment of a parking lot is a fortress against the world's evils. They are tragically mistaken.
Let’s break down the false sense of security. You’re in a crowded parking lot, surrounded by dozens of cars and hundreds of people. You think this chaos is a shield. In reality, it’s the perfect cover for a predator. How do you know who owns which car? A person could simply stand beside a decorated trunk, lure your child over with a piece of candy, and walk them away. In the sea of costumes and distractions, they could be gone before you even look up from your phone. A car provides an immediate escape vehicle, right there in the lot. At least in a neighborhood, a strange car pulling up is a red flag. Here, it’s just part of the scenery.
Furthermore, parking lots are designed for cars, not for crowds of small, excited children. Child safety experts and organizations like the National Safety Council consistently warn about the dangers of "non-traffic" incidents in parking lots. All it takes is one person, distracted for a split second, to start their car and begin backing up. In the low light and chaos, a small child in a dark costume is nearly invisible. You’ve traded the minuscule risk of a tampered candy bar for the very real risk of your child being struck by a two-ton vehicle.
Feature Traditional Trick-or-Treating Trunk-or-Treating
Community Fosters direct interaction with neighbors, building local trust and relationships. Anonymous, transient interactions with strangers in a centralized location. Weakens neighborhood bonds.
Perceived Safety Often viewed as "risky" due to stranger-danger myths. Perceived as "safe" due to the contained environment.
Actual Safety Controlled pace, familiar territory, high visibility on sidewalks under streetlights. Parents can easily supervise their small group. High risk of pedestrian-vehicle accidents. Anonymity makes it easier for predators to blend in and leave quickly.
Experience An adventure. Fosters independence, navigation skills, and social etiquette (saying "thank you"). A transaction. A static, controlled, and often commercialized handout.
Parental Role Active participant and supervisor, engaging with the child and community. Often a passive observer, distracted by socializing or their phone, lulled into a false sense of security.
Pumpkin Spice Latte Parenting and Why It’s a Major Problem
What’s driving this shift? I call it "Pumpkin Spice Latte Parenting." It’s a brand of modern parenting that prioritizes aesthetics, convenience, and the illusion of control over genuine, messy, character-building experiences. It’s about curating a perfect-looking life for social media, even if that life is devoid of substance.
These are the parents who demand costume bans at school because they can’t be bothered to teach their children the difference between fantasy and reality. They are the ones who bubble-wrap their kids from every conceivable risk, thereby robbing them of the chance to develop resilience and common sense. Trunk-or-treating is the official holiday of Pumpkin Spice Latte Parenting. It’s easy, it’s contained, it produces great photos, and it requires minimal effort while giving the appearance of parental engagement. It’s a hollow performance, and our kids are the ones paying the price.
"We are lonely, but we are afraid of intimacy. The promise of technology is that it will allow us to be together without the sacrifices of intimacy." - Sherry Turkle, Alone Together
This quote perfectly captures the modern Halloween predicament. We’ve created an event where we can be "together" in a parking lot without the actual work of building a community.
The TV Bogeyman, and Why You Should Be Afraid of It
Compounding the problem is the siren song of streaming services. Halloween used to be a holiday that got you out of the house. Now, Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+ have an endless queue of Halloween-themed content designed to keep you on the couch. Staying in to binge-watch horror movies has become a legitimate alternative to participating in the holiday. This further erodes the communal aspect, turning a night of neighborhood activity into another evening of passive consumption.
The Inherent Decline of Halloween in the Pseudo Modern Age
This is how Halloween is being murdered by streaming and modern idiocy. It’s a death by a thousand cuts. A little less neighborhood interaction here, a little more screen time there. A little more fear-mongering from the media, a little more convenience-seeking from parents. The end result is that Gen Alpha doesn’t understand Halloween because they don’t know what Halloween is. They’ve only known the sterile, pre-packaged version. They’ve never had a real Halloween, and if we continue on this path, they never will.
Halloween is Dead, but We Can Bring It Back to Life. Let’s Frankenstein This!
I refuse to believe it’s too late. We can cure the disease that has infected Halloween. We can resurrect it from the slab. But it requires us to be active, intentional parents and community members.
Here is the solution:
Ditch the Trunk-or-Treat. Make the conscious choice to reclaim your neighborhood. The risks you imagine are far less potent than the real dangers of a crowded parking lot.
Take Your Kids Trick-or-Treating. Go with them. Supervise them. Use it as an opportunity to teach them how to safely cross a street and interact politely with adults. Have one parent stay home to hand out candy, strengthening your own connection to the community.
Know Your Neighbors. The best defense against "stranger danger" is to have fewer strangers. Introduce yourself to the people on your block before October 31st. A connected neighborhood is a safe neighborhood.
Put. The. Phone. Away. Be present. Watch the joy on your child's face. Talk to the people who answer the door. The world is far more interesting than your screen.
Be the "Cool House." If you're staying home, embrace it. Decorate your yard. Have the good candy. Be the house that kids get excited to visit. You are actively building the magic for the next generation.
We have a choice. We can continue down this path of sterile convenience and manufactured safety, allowing Halloween to become another casualty of our detached, fearful, screen-obsessed culture. Or we can decide that some traditions are worth fighting for.
Let's turn off the phone, step out the front door, and show our children what real magic, real community, and a real Halloween looks like.
I think one of the biggest misconceptions about fatigue is that it's just a more extreme version of tiredness. Fatigue and tiredness are not the same thing. The biggest difference between them is that tiredness goes away if you rest, but fatigue doesn't. When you suffer from fatigue, your body keeps draining you even while you're lying down or sleeping. It's like a leak's been opened up somewhere and your energy keeps draining away no matter what you do. All you can do is wait and hope that at some point the flow will stop.
Happy first day of spooky season!!!
I hope you all celebrate accordingly
