I'm reading both both of these series right now, and honestly, same.

Just re-read the garden chapter of The Scarlet Pimpernel and I AM SCREAMING IT'S SO PERFECT. Percy says he won't be his wife's loyal lap dog. He says he will not forgo his honor to come when she whistles. But then he kisses the steps where she walked???? Absolutely insane behavior. I can't get over the love affair this man is having with honor and his wife where it is entirely unclear which one is the mistress. InSaNE I'm telling you.
I have been squealing with delight every time I've read this chapter for the last 27 years, since I picked up the book for the first time at age 11.
Are you familiar with "The Scarlet Pimpernel" (any version)? Please tell me in the tags where you're from 🙏
yes
no
Finally got around to watching the SDCC 30th Anniversary Gundam Wing vid. A few moments of pure joy and nostalgia turned into irritation that makes me gnash my teeth. Is it so hard to ask for Wing stuff without Frozen Teardrop mashed in? Why does that horrible nonsensical sequel linger longer than a rank fart? Why must every new release of my beloved Gundam series have to be retconned and forced to mold to Teardrop's low standards?
At last I know how Star Wars fans feel.
Thank you!!!!!!
You two belong together! (Affectionate): Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet
You two belong together! (Derogatory): Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw
I haven't even reached Knightley's declaration of love yet (I'm very close!), but Emma and Knightley's romance is rocketing up the rankings based solely on how low Emma's low point is.
You have a woman facing the reality that she has been selfish and manipulative, that she's mistreated others, badly misjudged every situation and decision, has made her friends worse, and there's a very real possibility that she's going to spend the rest of her life alone and it's going to be her fault. She's got a villain's fate in store for her. She hasn't been clever or kind enough to be a heroine. She's interfered with the romances of two poor, kind, sweet girls. A lonely life in obscurity, while everyone around her goes off to their happy endings, is the best ending that a character like her can hope for in a novel like this.
So then for Knightley to show up in the midst of this lowest point, and to tell her that he loves her, and that he's always loved her even at her most flawed--it's not just a declaration of love. It's salvation. It's unexpected grace. It's a eucatastrophe--bringing her from the lowest point of despair straight into a triumphant happy ending. The "bad girl" doesn't have to be punished. She can be forgiven. She can change. She can be worthy of love, flaws and all. And that's beautiful.
Why won't Tumblr's For You page algorithm take a fucking hint? If I report that I'm not interested in this post or blog, don't show me 15 more just like it? WTF?!
ANTHONY, BENEDICT, & COLIN 3.05 | “Tick Tock”
Benedict: Are you going to duel with your own brother? Anthony:
"He was but a man madly, blindly, passionately in love, and as soon as her light footsteps had died away within the house, he knelt down upon the terrace steps, and in the very madness of his love he kissed one by one the places where her small foot had trodden, and the stone balustrade there, where her tiny hand had rested last."

Wow. That's completely insane. Gotta love a man who is weird about his wife.

The Six Deaths of the Saint - Alix E. Harrow
Was planning on reading the Scarlet Pimpernel because its got The Mutuals' stamp of approval, but then I found out that Nikolai from Shadow and Bone (whom I love) is inspired by him and it has jumped way up my reading list.
