Captain Marvel
Since time is an illusion I've decided that an opinion I once had some time ago is somehow relevant and I must speak on it for some stupid reason.
Anyway....
I was watching Captain Marvel again this past weekend and I just really love this movie. I think it gets a bad rep, but I think it's mostly misunderstood.
Admittedly, I did grow up in the 90s so some of it is fan service to us aging millennials (which I am not embarrassed to admit).
But my favorite part is how Brie Larson plays Captain Marvel. Wildly underrated as a character imho. I've heard some people don't like the character, and I think I can understand why. I would say that Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel is the most unique super hero in the mcu. She's so different that I can understand why that would rub some people the wrong way (beyond the obvious institutionalized patriarchy, misogyny, etc).
But that's the brilliance of the character. She doesn't have any internal conflict, and every other hero in the mcu does. Captain America is so serious about the responsibility of his powers, Tony Stark is always torn between being a self-serving asshat or the hero everyone wants him to be, Black Widow has "red in her ledger", etc.
But not Carol Danvers. She's like "super powers? fuck yeah lets do some super hero shit!". Absolutely no doubt in her mind that she's going to use her powers to help people and be a hero. Just unbridled enthusiasm and determined competence. Absolutely pure of heart.
That's the good shit...
