This isn’t the first time we’ve seen something like this, either. When the Rocky Horror Picture Show did its TV version, Adam Lambert was offered the role of Frank. He turned it down on the basis that LGBTQIA language at the time of the show’s original performance indicated Frank should be a trans woman, not a man in drag.

The showrunners went on to cast Laverne Cox as Frank, and Adam was recast as Eddie.
