Yeah, that most was true. There wasn’t actually anything forcing them to kill each other. They just had to remember not to touch the plastic contraptions around their neck.
Easier said than done for some people, namely one Yuko Hiden.
“I wish I could at least wear my headphones…that would help a bunch. I’ll just have to keep them in my hands.
Seemingly to accentuate this, Yuko turned the foil headphones around in his grip. He shifted his shoulders. The plastic resting around his neck just felt wrong.
He leaned over and rested his head against Pidge’s shoulder, mindful of their collar.
"So, how long do you think we’ll have to wear these before Monofox and the mastermind get bored of us not killing each other?”

He pressed up into the kiss, not really caring that they were out in the hallway where anyone could see them. No one was there at the moment, so why not?
Yuko pulled away and wiped the tears on Masa’s cheeks away with the ends of his sleeves. His perfect, emotional, boyfriend. Yuko smiled and pressed his forehead against Masa’s.
“Never ever. You’re stuck with me. Whether you like it or not.”
He was pretty confident that Masa wouldn’t mind being stuck with him. Leaning back, Yuko reached ito his pocket, pulling something out. He hadn’t exactly planned to do this now, but it was better than later, considering Masa had everything else planned out.
“As wonderful as that all sounds, you’re forgetting a very important detail…
The hacker held out his hand towards Masa revealing a simple gold ring (that he had totally not taken from Momoko’s room). Sitting there on his knees, in front of the one person who made him feel safe, wanted, and loved, Yuko asked a question he had never even dreamed of asking.
“I’ll get you a better one once we’re out of here. But, Yano Masashi, will you marry me?”

Yuko stared at Pidge for a second before realising that they weren’t budging. He let out a sigh and sat down in one of the theater seats.
“Okay. You can babysit me until I calm down enough for you to be satisfied.
He fiddled with his foil headphones, turning them in his hands.
"How’re you holding up? You doing all right?”

Yuko stared at his hand. Throbbing where Pidge had hit it. Didn’t help that it was still sore from when he sliced it open with glass during the last motive.
He sighed and gave a look of gratitude towards Pidge.
“It okay, I wasn’t paying attention. I’ll be more careful.”
He stood up and placed a hand on Pidge’s shoulder.
“I’m gonna go find Masa, okay? See if he’s all right. We can talk later.”

Yuko paused, contemplating what the taller boy had revealed to him.
Masa wanted to start a family with him of all people. He pressed his forehead back against Masa’s chest and tightened his grip around his middle.
“The idea sounds wonderful, but, I’m not sure how good of a parent I would be. I didn’t really have the best role models. But you mentioned puppies. We can start with dogs…and then see where we can go from there.”
Yuko pushed back, giving Masa a light kiss as he sat on his legs. He smiled and fiddled with his foil headphones.
"What else? I'm certain you have our wedding planned out to the last detail. Tell me about it. When do you want it to happen? After we graduate? Later?"

Yuko looked up as a hand was placed on his shoulder. Pidge looked down at him with a caring expression.
The hacker sniffed and quickly wiped at his eyes. He didn’t need to seem weak right now. But his attention went back towards the foil headphones.
“They don’t fit anymore. There’s no room with this stupid collar on.”
Yuko wasn’t even conscious of his left hand reaching up towards the plastic restraint.

Yuko wasn’t sure how to react towards Hanazawa’s death. He hadn’t known her at all, had exchanged only a few words with her.
But with her death, he had gotten a hollow feeling in his stomach. Anyone of them could be next. All it took was an absent-minded tug on the collar encircling their necks and, boom, that’s it.
Squeezing the foil headphones that he held lightly in his fingers, Yuko headed back towards the dorms. He wanted to hide under his blankets and hope that this was all just a bad dream. Wishful thinking, but he didn’t exactly care right now.
He saw Masa down the hall a bit, sitting outside his own dorm, squeezing a teddy near to his chest. Yuko decided to bypass his own door and walked to kneel in front of his boyfriend.
“Hey…”
Yuko leaned forward onto his hands. The boys both looked like they could use a distraction from the recent death. So, he decided to try. He hoped Masa would be in the mood to play along.
He scooted forward between Masa’s legs and wrapped his arms around the taller boy’s middle, squishing the toy bear in between them. Leaning his head against Masa’s chest, Yuko let out a sigh.
“Could you tell me more? About what’s gonna happen after we get out of here? I want to hear what you have planned for us.”
Chapter Five Event: Going out with a bang
A restless night plagued Hanazawa Yuriko, she just couldn’t stand the collar around her neck. It bothered the Sukeban into the late nights of the night. There was no way to escape the uncomfortable feeling such an accessory created. Except. Maybe there was.
Getting up from her bed, not giving to care to make it since it would be only a quick trip to the first floor and back. Hanazawa made her way down to the cafeteria and walked straight into the kitchen and stopped at the drawer. Hopefully this was the one she was looking for…
Opening the drawer revealed that it was indeed the knife drawer! Grabbing a blade, she aimed it at the area where the collar met its ends. There was no way what the fox said was true. She thought. Why would Monofox even place something that could kill the students, wouldn’t that take away from his fun?
Believing that the collars were a bluff, Hanazawa jammed the knife into the metal locking mechanism. The moment the point of the blade forced its way into the collar, a loud explosion sounded out into the dead of night. The noise reaching all the way to the fifth floor.
This woke up all the students and prompted them to to rush down to investigate what happened.
Once in the kitchen the students were greeted with the smell of slightly charred flesh and various pieces of flesh and cloth strewn everywhere in the kitchen. Looks like another extreme cleaning Job for the Tour Guide.
The monitors in the kitchen came to life, showing the surveillance video of Hanazawa’s actions and her unfortunate demise. Monofox spoke over the looping video
“Kekeke, looks like a late night snack gone wrong. Yuriko thought I was bluffing, well now she is proof that this explosive business is one hundred percent real. Sweet dreams after seeing this… Kekeke.”
Once again, the students were left in silence.

He knew it. He knew that there was a reason behind Monofox and Guide being so nice. Why couldn't it have just been a (somewhat) nice movie night?
The minute that he felt Monofox push his foil headphones off and clap the thick collar on, he slid from the seat and onto his knees.
He wanted to bring his hands up and pull the damn thing off, but the fox said there was a bomb attatched to it and any tampering would result in an explosion. He didn't want to test it.
He reached out and grabbed the fallen foil headphones holding them in his lap. With the collar on, they wouldn't fit around his neck. He felt tears prick his eyes. He couldn't cry now. No way, the others were still here.
He simply sighed, staring down at Masa's gift.
"This can't be happening..."
Recurse | Chapter 5 | Masa
Yuko blinked. Marriage had been brought up again.
Before the Tower, he had never even entertained the idea of being in a relationship, let alone getting married. But now, if they managed to get out of here alive, it seemed like it could be a possibility in the near future. If anything, Masa certainly had it planned out. It made Yuko wonder how long the aromatherapist had been fantasizing about getting married and how many times his hopes had been dashed.
As Masa described his dream life outside the Tower, Yuko couldn’t help but smile at the image. The thought of never having to run, to be safe and happy with the person he loved. It sounded amazing.
Well, if they did get married, there was the problem with the name changing. Masa couldn’t take his name, as ‘Hiden’ wasn’t a real name and he’d never let his future theoretical husband take the ‘Iwahara’ name. That meant taking Masa last name. Which was Yano.
A snort of laughter escaped him, and he buried his face into Masa’s chest as his shoulders began to shake.
“Yano Yuko. That is the dumbest sounding name ever.”
He broke off as more laughter escaped him.
“When we actually do get married, I’m going to have to go back to Yasuko just to avoid dieing of laughter everytime I tell someone my name.”
His hands came up to grasp Masa’s arms in an attempt to prevent himself from falling to the floor in laughter. Instead, he managed to lean into Masa, causing them both to fall to the ground, Yuko landing on top of the taller boy in a groaning, laughing dog-pile.
It took several more seconds of laughter before Yuko realized his position and shot up, his hands coming off from Masa’s arms. His knees were on either side of Masa, practically straddling the taller boy. Yuko’s blush couldn’t possibly get redder.
“Shit, s-sorry. I-I’ll move…”

Yuko side eyed Atsuko as she admitted to regularly drinking a concoction that made cough syrup taste good. How was she alive? What condition was her liver in? What about her heart??? Well, at least he hadn’t seen any energy drinks in the Tower so far, so she wouldn’t be able to make one of those deadly drinks here.
He drummed his fingers against the counter as he contemplated exactly how he would like his tea. He knew how he like his coffee done up, he guessed it probably wouldn’t be much different from that.
“Okay, thanks. Um...I suppose that I’ll have milk in mine, and sugar...a ton of sugar.”
He took the offered cup of tea and sipped from it. Overly sweet with a hint of bitterness. Perfect. He took a chocolate sandwich cookie and dunked it into the drink. As he took a bite of the slightly moistened cookie he remembered that he had needed to tell Atsuko something.
“Oh, I don’t know if you knew yet, but Masa has the book you found yesterday. He’s keeping it in his room. And the final page isn’t in it anymore. Kouta thought is was a good idea to give the book to Monofox and he stole the page. Sorry.”
All that work to get the white out off, for nothing. Yuko sighed at the thought.
Firefly Lane | Starter | Closed for Yuko
Having never had tea with anyone before, Yuko was completely unsure on what kind of food would go with it. Atsuko had mentioned that she was making a salad, but Yuko would rather eat natto than any of that rabbit food.
Instead, at Atsuko’s suggestion, he began rummaging through the cupboards for cookies. Cookies went with tea, but what kind of cookies? Seemingly endless amounts of cookies lined the shelves. Everything from girl scout cookies to some of the most gaudy looking cookies he’s ever seen.
Yuko decides on a couple bags of chocolate-filled sandwich cookies that he loved dipping into coffee when Atsuko asked him if he even liked tea, and offered to make coffee instead. He shrugged.
“I don’t know, honestly. I’ve never been much of tea drinker simply because I never really had the opportunity. In my line of work, the more caffeine something had, the better. I’m used to coffee, but of you’re going to the trouble of making tea, I’d like to try it.”
He grabbed several other boxes of cookies and set them next to Atsuko’s salad. Then looked to the Class President, wondering if there was anything else he could do to help.
