Rainy Days and Cardboard Boxes (Open RP)
Mayumi let out a soft sigh of relief, turning her attention to the second puppy, gently rubbing it’s belly until he began to wiggle, tail wagging happily.
"…thank you. It’s just for now, alright?"
With that, she straightened, using Takeshi’s shirt to cradle the puppy and watching him, glancing over the expression he wore with such a small thing in his hands.
"….right. I’m commandeering your help, Takeshi-kun! You said you had to stay late? Don’t worry about that, I’ll get you out of it later. I don’t wanna take care of these guys alone, and you’re going to help me until the rain stops. Understood?"
"Ah! By the way, I’m temporarily naming them, too! This one here is Take-wan, and the one you’ve got is Shi-wan!"
So she could get him out of something like that? It sounded as though it were against the rules, but hey, if it was the class rep doing it then maybe it was fine.
"It's a deal, then. Just tell me what I need to do for...er, Take-wan and Shi-wan."
The abnormally cutesy names sounded foreign in his deep and gruff voice and the fact they were pretty much named after him didn't help much. Cautiously, he drew a bit closer to Mayumi to peer over at the other puppy, drawing the one he was holding closer into his chest.
"Huh...looks like you know what you're doing. You got a dog at home or something?"
Rainy Days and Cardboard Boxes (Open RP)
"Ah… is that so?"
She looked back down, flushing a tiny bit… she really should tell him to get on whatever he was supposed to be doing, but… this was far more important, of course!
"Yes… I… I found them not too far from here and I was attempting to find their owner when it started… so…"
Mayumi smiled a bit as the first puppy started to move more, wiggling enthusiastically… turning and holding it out for Takeshi, not even considering that he wouldn’t take it.
"Hold this one for a while while I dry off their sibling, okay? Just keep them warm for now, please."
Takeshi took another step back, holding his hands out as though to push it away.
"Uh...shit, there's no way I'm going to...I mean, this has got to be some kind of fucking joke..."
He tried his hardest to put on the gruffest voice he could manage, his eyes darting nervously around the halls. Just as he was about to make up an excuse to head out, however, the puppy squirmed in Mayumi's hands and let out a whimper.
Shit.
"...fine, I'll do it."
He let out a sigh of defeat, accepting the dog as he brought it up to his chest. It weakly lapped at his hands and he had to put on a scowl to beat out the tender expression he caught himself making earlier.
Rainy Days and Cardboard Boxes (Open RP)
"Thank you very much! Your cooperation is much appreciated, and I will repay you in kind as soon as possible!"
Mayumi didn’t look up at first, busy using her newly found improvised towel to start drying off the first of two small puppies. They’d started to whimper now that they were in the warm, and as she lifted one to her chest it began to bark weakly.
She smiled, laughing a bit as she rubbed his ears dry and then turned up to face her savior…
"…thank you very much. I—"
"…"
"T-takeshi-kun? A-ah, s-seriously? I didn’t recognize you! W-what are you doing hanging around here?"
"...teacher made me stay late."
He scratched the back of his head and refused to elaborate any further on the point lest she launch into a lecture. He stopped for a second to take a look at the puppies, feeling an urge to try and pick one of them up.
Still, they were in school. He had a certain reputation to uphold and it would be destroyed if anyone were to pass by and see him snuggling up to a small animal. Hesitantly and feigning an expression of disinterest, he put a little distance between them.
"S-so, did you just find them out in the rain?"
Rainy Days and Cardboard Boxes (Open RP)
Although it had been drizzling on and off all day, it wasn’t until a bit after school let out that the sky finally opened up.
Most students had made it out already, with only a few still lingering, some waiting for friends and others hoping for the storm to let up… and only a few were still in the main building’s entryway when Mayumi kicked the door in, soaking wet and glaring imperiously, hunched over a half-melted cardboard box.
She didn’t hesitate despite her startling entrance, and didn’t give any time for bystanders to adjust to her appearance, immediately pointing at the nearest face and booming out.
"You! Go get a towel right now! If you don’t know where one is, give me some of your clothing! I will have no argument, so do not fight me!"
Takeshi mumbled furiously to himself as he shuffled through the hallways, anger creasing the already unpleasant features of his face. Show up late to one class and he had to scrub the bathroom - ridiculous. He was planning on just not showing up, but the school was already breathing down his neck from past offensives and he couldn't risk getting the boot.
He was so caught up in his predicament that he almost tripping over a soaked through, hunched over figure. He stumbled back a few steps as he corrected himself, squinting as he began to realize just who the figure was.
"Ah...? What the hell are you - "
Before he could continue, however, she was barking out orders. A towel? There was no way he would be able to find one in time. With a sigh, he unbuttoned his shirt and tossed it to the girl, keeping his arms crossed over his chest with shoulders hunched. Still, he was curious and drew closer to peer into the box she was so protective of.
"What's the box for?"

She snorted in amusement, glancing down at her attire and back at him incredulously.
"Um…swimming, maybe? You’re funny."
She’d already said she had a swimsuit, she smelled like chlorine, and they’d already established she’d been at a pool…was this guy dense or just a joker? Either way, talking to him was turning out to be more entertaining than she’d thought. Mimicking his mumbly tone, the polo player tried to catch his eye again and speak at the same time.
"So…what the hell were you doing? You got blood all over you…"
Takeshi's face immediately flared up in red once again, his body language turning defensive.
"M-maybe you weren't swimming! You could be a lifeguard or something for all I know! Rgh..."
He crossed his arms stubbornly, shoulders hunched and glare wavering under the sheer embarrassment he was experiencing. When she brought up a topic change, he almost leaped at the opportunity to move the attention away from himself.
"...got into a scrap with some punks, nothing too big."

"Hisoka Minegishi."
Her words were quiet. She watched him, his movements, noting that he seemed to be just as confused and apprehensive about this interaction as she was. Something about the little cough he gave, or the way he made a gesture so polite as to wash the ratty old thing she’d let him borrow endeared him to her, and she cautiously offered a bright smile.
"I guess, if you don’t, like, mind, Takeshi Inoue-kun."
He quickly averted his gaze, completely unprepared for such a bright expression. Mumbling nonsense to himself to fill in the gap of silence, he tucked the rag into his back pocket, his mind desperately searching for something to say so that he wouldn't just keep rambling to himself like a mad man.
"So...what the hell were you doing? You got water all over you..."
"Come on! Do you seriously think my family’s ramen would be shit or something? You’re gonna make my dad cry, idiot!"
Mayumi laughed again… it was strange to hear after she’d thrown him so violently, but that had been one thing! This was another entirely~! There was no point in worrying about fights when you had a cute boy in hand!
Slowly she shifted, twining her fingers in his and squeezing it just a bit. Takeshi’s hands were big, rough… he obviously worked a lot. It was nice, really.
"By the way, you better like tonkotsu ramen…! I’ll even getcha an extra helping of pork and stuff, so don’t worry and eat all you want!"
Takeshi inhaled sharply at the unfamiliar sensation of someone holding his hand. For a second he could only stare, not quite sure how to handle such a situation due to his lack of experience. Feeling a bit nervous, he decided to simply follow his gut instinct and mimicked her gesture, slowly curling his fingers around her hand. It was an odd feeling and he couldn't quite seem to get used to it.
Still not entirely processing what was going on, he snapped out of his trance when she started talking to him again.
"Oh, y-yeah. I'm a big tonkotsu guy actually, pretty lucky."

Slowly drying in the absolutely torrid heat of the late afternoon, Hisoka hoped she could pass the redness in her cheeks that just would not go away as impending sunburn and not a sudden, completely unexpected bout of self-consciousness. He’d lowered the rag, finally, and she was able to get a good look at his face (figuring it’d be okay, since he seemed to be doing the same to her).
His hair was definitely interesting, and was the first thing she noticed about him. She was fascinated. How was it two different colors like that? And only on half of his head? Earlier in her life she’d have had a strong urge to run her fingers through it, see if it was soft. Now, though, all she did was remember, and try to forget.
He was scarred all over his face, and looked to be in the mood to gain a few more. The guy was predatory in appearance, and if the blood he’d just cleaned off was any indication, volatile in nature. Every paranoid instinct she’d gained in the past couple of years was screaming at her to run.
"What’s your name?" The girl asked instead.
"...Takeshi Inoue. What's yours?"
He paused for a moment and started to hold out the rag towards her, but hesitated when it reached eye level. The blood and grime had sufficiently stained it and something told him that simply giving it back wouldn't bode very well.
With an awkward cough, he pulled his arm back, gripping the cloth tightly within his hand.
"Uh...I should probably wash this before I give it back."
Even as he came even with her, Mayumi didn’t let go of him, content to keep that tiny bit of contact. At the sound of his stomach, she turned… staring at first, then bursting into laughter.
"Ufufufu~! You’ve got a real honest body, huh? Then we definitely gotta go!"
She giggled again, her smile honest and open, tugging him a bit faster.
"And if you’re talking ramen, there’s only one place alright? I can’t bring you anywhere that’s not Hanezuka’s! Just you wait… one bowl, and you’ll be spoiled for the rest of your life!"
Takeshi felt himself fall speechless for a moment, confused and completely off guard by her genuine smile. Whenever she did, she looked so much more like the Mayumi he had known from before.
"That good, huh? Better live up to expectations or I'm going to be pretty damn disappointed."
He quickened his pace to match hers, catching up to her side rather than being dragged behind her. The way she was holding onto him made him feel a bit nervous, but it probably wasn't anything intimate, it was just because she was leading him to the restaurant...right?

She was a bit dumbstruck at how his face suddenly changed color. Her face did that sometimes, too, when she got embarrassed. And in a sudden flash of association, she realized that yes, he was, in fact, blushing.
The action repeated on her, cheeks coloring without the benefit of a rag to hide herself in. So, instead, she buried her face in her wet hair, whining “Owwwww…” when the water once again hit her bruise.
A few moments later, she peeked out of her hair-fort and rolled her eyes at him, gesturing at her leg and abdominal muscles.
"And you would have gotten your ass kicked for it, yeah." The water polo player informed him. Continuing with genuine confusion, she questioned, "Why would you steal my bag, anyways? There’s nothing even in it except a drenched swimsuit and about four metric tons of plain pasta noodles.”
Takeshi cleared his throat and slowly lowered the rag now that his face was clean. He was probably still a little red, but holding the cloth up to his face for any longer would seem strange. Sensing that if he didn't reply to her quickly it would make the situation even more awkward, he questioned her last statement.
"A swimsuit and pasta? You a big swimmer?"
Indeed, now that his anger wasn't clouding his mind he finally picked up on the fact that she was dripping wet and smelled of chlorine. And...
...holy shit, she wasn't even wearing a shirt. Nervously, he quickly diverted his eyes away from her, hoping that his moment of thought hadn't been mistaken for something much less innocent.

Hisoka reddened even further, surprised that such a development was even possible, and let her duffel bag drop to the ground as she flipped the hair still dripping down her shirt over her shoulder again. Ignoring the fact that the water ran painfully over a sensitive bruise on her left eye and cheekbone that she’d all but forgotten about, the girl pulled an ice cold water bottle and roll of paper towels out from her equipment case.
Taking deep breaths, as her therapist had politely advised her (and not so politely, once, when she’d broken a window and thrown a vase through it out of a panic when he touched her shoulder comfortingly), she lifted dark brown eyes to meet his sorrowfully. Shakily, she dumped half of the bottle onto the rag and drew her hand up to dab at his face, handing him what remained as a gesture of apology.
"…I haven’t decided if you’re going to hurt me or not. But what do you mean, like a common thug? You talking about how, like, totally messed up you are? ‘Cause, uh, I dunno if you like, noticed, but I’m kinda balls deep myself."
Takeshi flinched at first when the rag first made contact with his face, his brain not processing the situation fast enough to react appropriately. For a second he stood in a dumb silence, desperately trying to find the words he needed.
"U-uh...yeah, thanks."
It was the only thing he could manage to say and he quickly took the rag from her hands, pressing it against his cheeks to try and cool down the sudden flash of heat he was experiencing in them. He paused for a moment to take another look at the girl. He hadn't noticed it before, but she, too, had injuries of her own.
"...what I meant is that I'm not your average street punk. If I was I probably would've taken your bag by now."

Hisoka was shaken out of her reverie roughly as she collided (chest-first, of course, those stupid things stuck out way too far in from of her) with someone who appeared to be much taller than her. Distracted by the anomaly of that happening, as most people she’d met were four foot or under, she almost didn’t notice for a moment that a) the person was a guy, and b) he was dirty and gross, and she’d just taken a shower.
Oh, and he was bleeding. That was not a good sign.
Taking what was very nearly a great leap backwards, the athlete clutched her duffel bag to her stomach protectively and worried at her lower lip, a chill spreading across her body. What had this guy done to get so many scars? Did he hurt girls? He had to, right?! Who didn’t?
"Wh-what…who…I’m sorry! Wait, no I’m not. I’m…You’re bleeding."
Unable to make out much more, she left it at that with the hopes that he somehow spoke flustered teenaged girl.
Takeshi sniffed and poked at the several minor wounds scattered across his face nonchalantly.
"Yeah, thought it was pretty obvious that I was."
His tone wasn't sarcastic, but it wasn't exactly inviting either. In truth he was simply tired and hadn't expected to have been bumped into so rudely (even though the poor girl deserved none of the blame in the first place).
He noticed her defensive body language and raised an eyebrow, a bit insulted that a man couldn't walk through the streets bloody and bruised without being judged. What a world to live in. He shoved his hands into his pockets and scowled at her.
"I'm not going to hurt you so you can stop acting like I'm some kind of common thug."
She laughed at his expression, striding forward and grabbing his hand, beginning to drag him towards the campus gates without any hesitation.
"Good! Come on now, we’re wasting light! What’re you feelin, huh? Okonomiyaki could seriously hit the spot right now… but maybe you wanna hit the karaoke bars first?"
Mayumi turned back, smiling at him without hesitation as she stormed on.
"If you want ramen, you better prove you’ve got good taste in it, or we’re done!"
Takeshi let out an involuntary yelp as she led him away, his steps staggering and uneven as she dragged him across campus, only evening out when he sped up to keep his pace to walk next to her. At the mention of food, his stomach let out a growl.
"Ah shit...guess I'm hungrier than I thought."
He found himself smiling at her enthusiasm, however, and decided to simply play along with it for now. It wasn't like there was any harm in letting loose a little.
"Ramen, huh? Sounds good enough. Know any good joints around here?"
Her smile grew and she laughed, once again looking so much like the Class Rep he knew that it seemed impossible that she could be someone else.
"Ufufu~! What the hell’s that look for, c’mon now?"
Mayumi held out her hand, smiling earnestly at him.
"Why not? You’re cute, got some spine to you, and you know how to throw a punch and take one! You’re just my type, so why not have some fun? I know some great places for Karaoke!”
He glanced over to the side, mentally debating whether or not he should take up the offer and trying to make sense of the whole situation in general.
On one hand, he had no idea what was going on and was pretty sure Mayumi had snapped somehow, but on the other, surely just one little day out wouldn't hurt. After all, she probably wouldn't remember any of it if she did go back to normal...right?
He turned back to her, looking off into the corner to avoid eye contact before mumbling out a reply.
"Yeah...I guess it's fine."
Mayumi turned, leaning against the wall and shaking out her arm a bit, grinning up at him and tilting her head. Up close, he looked pretty damn good. A nice find, all and all… how had she missed this guy before?
"Takeshi, then! Good, you’re gonna call me Mayumi from now on, got it? Don’t take it for granted… it’s rare I let anyone use my first name!"
With that she laughed, crossing her arms over her chest and nodding firmly.
"And when I mean reward, I’m obviously talking about a date! Go out with me, right now, alright? Let’s ditch this joint and have some fun!"
Takeshi cleared his throat and shifted uncomfortably, not quite used to having someone stare at him in such a manner.
"Right...Mayumi..."
He still wasn't quite sure what had gotten into her, but he decided to question her about it later when she wasn't so...not Mayumi. Already her new found forwardness had put him into a situation where his face couldn't help but heat up.
"A d-d-date?! You c-can't be serious!"
