---- HE HAS RETRIEVED THE BAG. Sure, it was thrown at him, but heâs got it and thatâs the important part! With a confident grin, Tora chuckles.
â Now, I have a charm to give out, and a point to prove! I should get busy! â
[Akira voice] Spirits hate your guts.
â- Oh! A new voice, chiming in on the spirit situation! Spirits almighty, was everyone here a non-believer or something?
â Nonsense, friend! I am very, as the cool kids say, âtightâ, with many paranormal entities! Ahaha! â
Spirits do not exist.
â- Oh, he isnât cringing. He just has that same dumb grin he always rocks.
â Neither does your opinion! To me! I know what I see! Hoo-yah! â
Make my muse cringe with only four words!
shslmonsterdesigner:
âI⊠Well, I-I wonât force you to give it to meâŠâ
Truthfully it would definitely make her feel a lot better. She didnât expect to have to worry about something like this when she left the house. Usually having some sort of gemstone left her feeling a lot safer at the very least.
âUm, Iâm really sorry for snapping at you.â
She had absolutely no intention of elaborating on her reasons for this. It was a genuine apology though. She hoped he could tell that much at least. She really wasnât sure what else to say. He didnât seem like a bad person or anything.
----Â â Nonsense! I am happy to part ways with it! It is but the least I can do! â
He might not be able to help look for an exit, but at the VERY least, Tora could try to spread some cheer around. That hadnât been going too well so far, but... heâs trying his best! That probably counts for something!
â Fret not, friend! All is forgiven! In fact, I value your honesty with me! I feel as if I have learned a valuable lesson! â
Sure, thatâs what he says, but, his volume will probably go right back up to obnoxious levels after this conversation was over. ... Though, at the very least, he now knows to quiet down a little around this person.
â I suppose I must work diligently toward retrieving my belongings from Jenova, so I may bestow upon you the charm! Perhaps it is best to part ways for now? â
shslmonsterdesigner:
ââŠY-You have a charm? I-I donât have any sort of protection charms on me. I donât take them out of the houseâŠâ
Her response is soft, almost hesitant. She wasnât completely sure, if she should say yes. After all she knew she probably should be careful. Everyone should be careful when it comes to spirits. It would be comforting to have a charm of some sort thoughâŠ
âI⊠Donât know. Iâm not even sure where we are. I doubt thereâs much you could do right now anyway.â
Now that she was actually talking about it she started to look pale. Why did she feel like she had to answer him? Was it the guilt of making him feel bad in the first place? Was it just her own feelings on this in general? Either way, she didnât want to keep talking about this more than she had to. It was too much.
----Â â Yes! A charm! A glimmering quartz crystal embedded into a necklace! It is in my bag currently, which I do not have... but the man who spoke of the killings has promised my bag back soon! So, as soon as I receive it, you can have my protective charm! I am not making much use of it anyway, aha! â
He smiles gleefully, giving Kuroneko a thumbs-up afterward. Honestly, he WAS using it... but, in the same vein, he wasnât using it for anything truly IMPORTANT. So parting ways with it was easy enough. Especially if it eased someone else more than it helped him out.
â Ah... yes, you are correct. There truly is not much I can do right now, to help out or to entertain myself. As such, I should hope you arenât too upset with me! You seem pleasant to speak to! â
Tora wouldnât mind speaking to her more down the road, but after that little... episode... he wasnât sure if thatâd happen. Ah well! The past is the past!
shslphilosopher:
Talia stood with her back straight.
âMy name is Talia Newton, and I am the SHSL Philosopher. Unfortunately, my job is all about getting to the truth of the matter, or something close to it.â
She raised an eyebrow when he mentioned that he could show her a ghost.
âOh really? By all means, show me one of these ghosts you speak of. I am very fascinated to see one first-hand.â
She wanted to roll her eyes, but she knew she was better than that so she just gritted her teeth.
----Â â Yami Tora! SHSL Occultist. Explorer of mind, body, soul... and most importantly, the otherworldly! Hoo-yah! â
He puffs his chest out, standing tall and pumping his arms as he gave off that enthusiastic âhoo-yah!â. Believers or not, heâs darn proud of all his accomplishments, and heâs gonna make sure everyone knows it, too!
â Well, until the strange man who spoke of killings returns my belongings to me, I cannot show you. Among other extremely important things, that bag has all of my ghost-summoning equipment in it! I cannot summon a ghost without candles! What am I, some sort of barbarian?! â
The Occultists laughs a bit as his own joke, before sorting himself out again and speaking up once more.
â Rest assured, as soon as I get that bag back, you will have your proof! It is a promise from me to you! â
shslmonsterdesigner:
Now that he seemed upset, she wasnât sure what to do. Kuroneko felt more guilty than anything else now. She couldnât help being angry about this. This was a big deal for her. MaybeâŠ
âI-I⊠Well, if you want to make it up to me that badly, please just keep whatever you do with spirits away from meâŠâ
Her voice was quieter now. Her eyes focused on the floor. She didnât expect this. Maybe she should have just sucked it up.
ââŠI go by Kuroneko, so you donât have to call me a stranger anymore..â
She adds on as she crosses her arms and holds herself. If anything she could at least give herself a hug.
---- Keep the spirit stuff away from her? ... Hmm, intriguing. In a way, she sort of reminded him of... Halloween. The kid that didnât want to go near a haunted house, and previously the mom that scolded whoever ran the places for scaring her kid. Tora didnât necessarily want to jump ship and assume she was scared, but... oh, who was he kidding, he jumped ship all the time.
â If you are not fond of it, perhaps I can cast a banishing spell! â
That was one option... but he wouldnât really want to banish any spirits that happened to be in the area... those were his buddies!
â Or, perhaps, you could hold onto my evil-repelling charm! â
He straightens himself, bringing a fist up to his mouth and coughing into it. Afterwards, he smiles a dumb smile. Right. Cut down on some of the spiritual stuff around her. Respect people!
â Or, I could- cease. My apologies. â
shslphilosopher:
Talia let out an annoyed sigh. She felt like she wasnât going to get through to this man. He wasâŠcompletely oblivious to fact and reason. She knew people like that just didnât understand. Nonetheless, she didnât want to give up just yet.
She pinched the bridge of her nose and rubbed it.
âNow you are engaging in the appeal to accomplishment fallacy. Just because you were successful in coming to Hopeâs Peak, it does not mean your argument gains any sort of merit. Hopeâs Peak has a veryâŠinteresting method of accepting students.Iâm sure there is some reason they chose you, but I still stick to my facts. Until you can show me that evidence, I will not convinced.â
She glanced directly at the other, waiting for his reaction.
----Â â You are devaluing me! I am hurt, truly, Stranger-chi! Youâve pierced through my heart with a wooden stake that cannot be removed! â
Heâs just joking around now. Though, it was pretty insulting to have someone write off his feats so... nonchalantly. But heâd digress for now... if she wanted good, solid, proof, then heâd provide! Straight for the big one, too!
â Aha! Would you like to see a ghost? It may take some time, but I am more than capable of showing you first-hand! â
shslphilosopher:
Taliaâs eyebrows twitched with annoyance.
âYou do realize that the whole argument revolving around proving a conceptâs non-existence is a logical fallacy? There is no way I can prove the absolute non-existence of spirits. It is up to you, the one making the claims, to offer proof of existence of spirits.â
She couldnât help but smile a little as she spoke. She had the upper hand in this battle of truths.
----Â â I am sure you have noticed that many of us are missing our belongings! If I had them, I would gladly give you all the proof you could possibly ask for and more! Unfortunately, that is impossible at the moment. I ask you this, however! Would Hopeâs Peak so carelessly allow me entry if there was no merit to my claims? â
Tora stands a little taller, chuckling. To him, that was a pretty good rebuttal.
â There are spirits everywhere! You just need to know how to look for them! â
shslmonsterdesigner:
âYou could still help even if it doesnât involve looking around. Anything would be better thanâŠThatâ
She didnât know what he could do. Honestly just âstaying out of the wayâ would be good enough for her. Anything to avoid this again.
When he mentions making it up to her she looks surprised and somewhat confused.
ââŠMake it up to me? I-I donât know, I donât really think you can? Just.. Please donât be so loud if youâre going to be doing stuff like that.â
She was tempted to tell him not to do things like this at all, but that might be too mean. She was calming down now so she couldnât bring herself to. That doesnât change
---- Anything is better than talking to spirits. Canât make it up to her. That probably stung a bit harder than it should have, honestly. At least he could still carry out his spiritual work in private, where he hopefully wouldnât bother anyone. But even then, he might end up being too loud! Argh! Tora had never felt so conflicted about his own passion before!
â I-I will... c-certainly keep that in mind, Stranger-chi...! I-I will be... a-as quiet as a mouse...! You will n-not hear such things from me again! â
He assures with a (shakier than usual) smile. All settled! Everything is PEACHY. Tora can go without talking to his spirits for a few days! Or, at least, only speaking up to them when he was sure nobody else was around.
â F-fret not, friend! I am most true to my word indeed! A-as honest as can be! A-an eager, honest beaver ready to make it up to you! E-except this beaver is actually a human!! â
shslphilosopher:
Talia folded her arms and furrowed her brow.
âI am certainly not a close-minded person. I just refuse to acknowledge concepts that are not based in logic. I have never seen a spirit before. There has never been evidence based in logic and science the proves the existence of spirits. Ergo, I can say with quite a bit of confidence that spirits do not exist.â
She spoke in a cold, calculating tone; a far cry from her usually soft and gentle voice. This seemed to be a topic that she wanted to have the final say on.Â
----Â â That sounds very close-minded to me! Theorizing is a major part of scientific discovery, is it not?! Haha! â
Thereâs a difference between theorizing based on existing info, and making outlandish claims with nothing to back it up. That is something Tora CLEARLY doesnât understand in the slightest. Someone help this poor kid... someday heâs gonna legitimately think heâs some sort of scientist or something like that. Maybe if he proved the existence of ghosts or something, but until then, science should be left to the scientists.
â Besides! While it may be true that there is no evidence PROVING their existence, can you DIS-prove their existence? I would think not! â
shslmonsterdesigner:
Kuroneko was struggling to keep her cool with this situation. When it came to spirits, she had a lot of feelings. Feelings she wasnât really willing to share with someone she just met.
âYou could try looking around with other people to help find a way out? Or just not yell it so loud?â
Regardless of the spirit matter, she canât handle people yelling right now. Things were stressful enough with them being trapped in such a place. She was still trying to sort out her own feelings. Having someone loudly pray to the spirits not too far away wasnât helping.
âItâs really inconsiderate to just yell like that! Youâre not the only one in here, itâs really not helping!â
She was doing her best to be stern about this.
---- Tora shrinks back a bit, rubbing the back of his head awkwardly as Kuroneko continues to scold him. Sure, heâd love to look around for an exit, but... well, he wasnât going to be doing any looking anytime soon. Though, she did have a point. Perhaps he... had been a bit loud. Too used to being alone in his room where nobody cared if he used an outside voice.
â A-as I said, I am very sorry if I was... inconsiderate, or anything! It is... rather difficult for me to help in conventional ways! â
Blind, and with a blindfold. Heâs pretty much double-blind. But not enough to where it loops and he can see in 20/20 again. Not yet anyway... he needs another blindfold... and a lot of energy. Heâs not helpless or anything. Far from it... but likely not very helpful in looking for an exit.
â If there is anything I can do to make it up to you, I-I will gladly listen! â
shslphilosopher:
When the spirit obssessed man tapped his blindfold, Talia realised what he was saying.
âI seeâŠwell perhaps you could assist in another way? A way that doesnât involve illogical ideas?â
She really wasnât in the mood to argue about the existence of ghosts and ghouls, she just wanted to get out.
----Â â Illogical?! How close-minded! They are only as illogical as you perceive them! You just need to try a little harder to see them! â
Heâd love to offer up some sort of haunted artifact as proof... but the better part of his collection was back at home. Drat. Tora made a mental note to pack at least one piece of ghastly history in the future.
â I am assisting in the best way I know how! I am deeply apologetic if my efforts are not enough for you! â
He bows, smiling a big dumb smile.
shslmonsterdesigner:
Well, that certainly got her attention. And not in a good way. Kuroneko had mostly been trying to ignore this guy, but this was a bit too much. Him yelling about ghosts was starting to make her even more tense and upset.
In a moment of anger she walked over to him.
âIs this really the time for you to be doing stuff like that? I-It isnât funny!â
She was clearly scared on top of her anger. What was up with him?
âWill you just cut that out?â
For someone whoâs normally shy and hard to anger, even she had her limits. She was so close to crying it was unreal how she wasnât.
---- As she approached and began scolding him, Toraâs smile drops to a confused sort of frown. Had he done something wrong? He was only doing what had come naturally to him, after all... though, maybe this was just a harsh non-believer in the occult. It wouldnât surprise Tora in the slightest. Either way, despite the circumstances, there was no point in being harsh back.
â I am very sorry if I have offended you in any way, Stranger-chi! But speaking to the spirits for knowledge is the extent of my capabilities at the moment! â
He didnât hold the anger against her. It was a tense scenario for the majority, Tora would assume... which is only all the more reason to keep his own head held high!
shslphilosopher:
Whilst searching for an exit, Talia overhead someone begging to spirits. She saw the dramatic man on his knees with his hands clasped. Perfect, she was stuck with a spiritual type.
âWhile your prayers are seemingly done out of good will, they are certainly not going to help get us off this platform.â She said to him with a slightly disapproving tone.Â
â"If you wish to help, aid me in finding an exit.â
---- He stands up rather quickly, his gaze shifting toward Talia. Ah, yes! Heâd love to help find an exit! ... If only Tora could see well enough to assist in looking for one. But he was always happy to lend a spiritual hand! It was the best he could offer aside from a bright smile and kind words!
â I would, but I am afraid my sight in this plane is rather limited! â
The Occultist taps his blindfold a few times, to drive his point home.
â Fret not, however! The spirits have never led me astray before! We will surely be protected under their watch! â
@shslmonsterdesigner
---- Tora kneels down, humming lightly as he brushes his fingers along the ground. After that, he stands up, removes his left glove, and licks his finger, holding it up to check for breezes. Then the glove goes back on. Pointless actions to on-lookers, but to the Occultist, much more.
â Yes, yes, yes! I am absolutely confident there are spirits here with us in this place! â
He loudly exclaims for everyone to hear. ... Tora thinks thereâs spirits everywhere, but they donât know that yet-
