Prologue | Open
Maverick listened with uncertainty as the stranger and black and white spoke, turning over each word carefully in his mind and trying to comprehend what exactly was going on. Ā As this went on, he stood stock still and stared at the odd person in front of him, not moving an inch while the small crowd likely shifted here and there around him. Ā
He didnāt mind the people; he really didnāt. Ā There wasnāt a familiar face in sight, of course; that was just his luck that none of those he knew would be among these. Ā However, that wasnāt something that was difficult to fix.
When the speech was over, he went to reflexively check his wrist for the lead that was so often looped around it before remembering. Ā Japanās quarantine for imported animals wouldnāt let him have Crosby yet. Ā That was certainly unfortunate. Ā
Tucking the strange card- what appeared to be an ID- into his jeans pocket, he let his mind flow back into his intended action before he was distracted by the lack of his faithful canine companion: meeting people.  And so, without skipping a beat, he placed himself within the line of sight of one of the nearest stranger and⦠simply started talking.  Someone was doing his best to skip the awkward.
āSo, how much money you wanna bet this fuckinā schoolās pulling something on us? Ā Their repās so polished, thereās gotta be something weird about this place.ā
Ah...?Ā
Slowly, Atsuya turned his head towards the individual that had made their way over and into his line of sight before they began to talk. The fact that this disheveled looking boy jumped his way right into a conversation while forgoing any introductory greetings caught Atsuya off guard for a few moments. He wasnāt prepared to make conversation with anyone so soon, but it didnt really bother him that much.
He mustered up as much charm as he could with this thick atmosphere threatening to suffocate them and everyone else in this room; Atsuya put on a friendly smile, or what he hoped was a friendly looking one anyways.
Of course, he did give the other a quick once over, and rose his brow at the otherās current state of attire in a brief silently judging gaze.. But... he kept his judgmental nature to himself like usual. Whatever the other looked like- or wore- was their choice, and he would not insult anyone for something as simple as that. At least not aloud, anyways...
āHmmmn, like a prank, or as in a wholeĀ āthis situation isnāt staged whatsoever and all of your lives are actually at stakeā idea?ā
āAlthough, you sound fairly serious about this, so Iām going to go with the latter.ā āThe schoolās... questionable at best, in my own opinion, but I personally have nothing bad to say about it. Then again itās a little hard for me to take this whole situation very seriously in the first place... considering our circumstances.ā And considering thereās a 12-year-old running this show as well...
He kept that last bit to himself, however.
