How to add your own recs:

The shuakeficrecs collection on ao3 is for bookmarks only.

Why do we only collect bookmarks?

Ao3's collection feature was primarily made for secret santas and writing challenges. So, adding works to a collection depends on the author's willingness to approve it.

Adding a bookmark to a collection has many more advantages for a rec list. It does not require the original author's approval. It allows the bookmarker to add a nice review, and also allows the bookmarker to add additional tags to increase the collection's navigation.

Step 1.) Bookmark a new fic or press 'edit' on a current bookmark.

Step 2.) Optional, but the fun part. In the notes section, add why you like this fic.

Step 3.) Also optional, but very helpful, refer to our custom taglist and add additional applicable tags.

Step 4.) In the add to collections field, type in shuakeficrecs without spaces and select the matching collection.

Step 5.) Mark as rec & finish.

i bound my shuake oneshots as tiny books 😌 size is roughly letter octavo; binding style is a weird improvised sewn boards, since i couldn't make up my mind until the last minute on whether i wanted to do more math to figure out squares on the cases, but i like the way they turned out. as a bonus i sized them to fit inside this trader joe's chocolate sampler box from last christmas, cause i thought it would make a cute slipcase....

A really fun encapsulation of the relationship as told through five moments in LeBlanc. Over light conversation hangs even louder unsaid truths. It's a clever choice of setting--untouched by the violence of the greater plot (supernatural and otherwise)--but the author still lets those moments echo and resonate. The author knows about Nov 20th, as does the reader, akechi, and akira. What else is there to do but have a cup of coffee about it?

Sad, sweet, & sapphic. Atmospheric & domestic. Goro grapples with the impending fate of her father. It's a tall task making shuake sweet while keeping canon intact, but jumping twelve years ahead is a really smart way to handle that. It's enough time that I totally buy where Akechi is at. Leaves me wondering: which is a worse fate for Akechi? Being a man who resembles his father or a woman who resembles her mother?

A vivid, economic role reversal one-shot. An entire alternate game told in poignant flashes as our leads careen towards the inevitable Nov 20th. Even though their positions have swapped, goro & akira retaining (most of) their canonical backstories, personalities, and even behaviors during the game is fascinating. Goro is still the chatty one, still the one inviting Akira out, still initiating the duel. God it's so interesting when you twist the prism ever so slightly, suddenly all these actions seem so heroic. Of course the hero is going to doggedly pursue the quiet, unreadable dark-haired villain. How could it be any other way?

Only one person is present: AKIRA KURUSU. Or: A one-sided conversation that changes nothing for Goro and Akira. Set over one year after Akira accepts Maruki's deal.

Saw "bad ending post-canon" & "script format" in the tags and did a little gasp of "oh that's so smart". Love Goro's micro rebellion. Really brilliant application of the script format. Akira's dialogue being omitted is such a clever touch. After all, scripts are only for actors.

A phone conversation during a temporary body swap. I love a fic that successfully throws the reader into the deep end and tells you to start swimming. Really lovely, really powerfully intimate piece. The two leads have such a natural rapport, broken edges and all. I'm always impressed by pieces heavy on dialogue and light on everything else--takes a lot of authorly confidence and strong dialogue, and this has both.
