dinner bells || pixie, shutter.
Pixie nodded, reaching for a coil or curls that hung around her face. “No, that makes sense. Like, why be alone in this when we’re all together fighting for the same cause. Might as well help those we can,” she smiled and twirled the coil around in her fingers absently. Though she wanted to get out into the real world just as much as anyone else, she knew she couldn’t do it alone. She’d have to join parties, guilds and forge alliances with others to survive. Soloing was great when she wanted to keep things to herself, but the only way out was team work and Pixie was sure that not many others believed the same. She also knew that when she reached the higher levels, the chances of another player killing her would increase as well. She wanted the freedom and adventure Naxis provided, but perhaps she should start taking things less lightly. She wouldn’t stay invisible forever.
Silence was normally uncomfortable for Pixie. She thought that perhaps she had annoyed the other person, or there was nothing else they could possibly talk about because the connection ended there. She wanted to bring up her brother in attempts to take the topic off his own, but she knew that wouldn’t work as a very good distraction. Instead, Pixie drew a deep breath and waited for something else to cross her mind. Thankfully, Shutter spoke first. “Oh surprises! I love surprises! Well, the good kind a least. Not the “hey, your cat died while you were at school, surprise!” kind. That kind sucks…that’s just….awkward….” biting the inside of her lip, she realized how messed up that sounded, mentally screaming at herself to stay silent. It didn’t last long.
"It is a lot less challenging isn’t it?" She smiled, "no need for half the pots and pans we’re used to, and it’s a lot easier to buy or find our own food. I mean, I baked a lot back home rather than cooking, but man, five seconds for a cake is a lot better than half an hour." Pixie watched him while he worked, still trying to see if there was a way she could help him, but by the looks of it, Shutter had everything under control. Soon, she’d be able to taste a real meal in Naxis, it excited her. "So," She began, "does it taste like, really real? You know, the snozberries taste like snozberries kind of way?”
Kindness should have been a common trait among people, that's what Shutter thought. Unfortunately, kindness was not a common trait. He'd known of that dilemma, it was a prevalent one in the real world ...however, it was even more obvious in the land of Naxis. Virtual reality or not, people were still people and should be treated as people. The virtual reality aspect was making people less human in Shutter's opinion.
"A surprise then," Shutter smiled warmly at the girl as he prepared the meal. "It definitely is a lot less challenging. I can actually cook things without burning them down," he said excitedly.
It could hardly be called cooking, in Shutter's opinion. It was mostly clicking and opening menus, doing the commands and timing everything perfectly. Shutter liked this type of cooking. He could recall countless times something ended burnt; dorming for college didn't exactly teach him how to cook things properly, just creatively. At least, in Naxis, he was able to provide meals.
"It's going to be real. Really, real," Shutter said as he finished cooking the meal. It was recipe he picked up in another town: steak and baked potatoes. He fixed it up on a little plate and handed it to Pixie, "Here you go, a meal for you tonight."
