do you ever just miss lucaya

Sometimes it pains me how blatantly lucaya and riarkle were gonna be endgame. How S3 ended with Maya not wanting to improve herself bc that would mean she was pretending to be someone else even if she had been so happy. With no one other than Lucas realizing she was growing for good and becoming happier, but then anxiety and pressure of others got the best of her and she went back to the stereotype she thought she had to fullfill of being a “problematic” girl to balance Riley and pulled away from Lucas. It ends with Lucas thinking Riley is the person he’s supposed to be with because she’s like him, and everyone says so, and Maya has pulled away anyways (even if he was unhappy af when Josh and her talked afterwards). With Lucas never accepting his past self but rather forever thinking he is supposed to be this Prince Charming like Riley thinks he is and thus he goes with her because that’s what he thinks he has to do to become prince charming, even if he was the happiest when Maya teased him and Maya saw him for the flawed and normal person he was. No pedestal. It ends with Riley thinking she has to be with Lucas because that was her first crush and she supposes her story has to be the same as her parents and doesn’t realize the whole point is that she has to write her own story. It ends with Riley still putting these fictional images she has of people in a pedestal, from her parents’ past to the way she thinks Lucas and Maya are supposed to behave. And so she never really grows up much and never truly writes her own story as much as she says she does. It ends with Riley feeling lost that time she had a bad grade and the only person who managed to get through her was Farkle, not for the first nor last time. With both of them connecting in a way not even her and Maya have done, but turning their backs on that because both still think there’s a story supposed to be written with a prince charming and first loves and don’t realize they are supposed to write their own destinies. It ends with Farkle not being crazy in love of Smackle, even if he used to be such a passionate person, because he likes her enough and she likes him and thus he thinks that’s as much as there is for him. Because he knows he is not prince charming and so he belittles himself. It ends with Smackle always making remarks of how she wants more of a relationship in comedic and subtle ways but ultimately no one takes those comments seriously. With her not understanding the whole “parts of a fairytale” everyone seems to think they are supposed to follow, but she is new and she is shy and apart from physical affection she hasn’t grown much either so rather she stays quiet and keeps making subtle remarks hidden through jokes. It ends with Zay being the only one who lowkey realizes all of this, but doesn’t know how to word it. But also, he never got a storyline apart from being the friend and comedic relief.

It ends with all these kids having a mess of feelings. It ends with S3, the season of “feelings” and with everyone expectating S4 the season of “growing a realizations” to never arrive and thus all these kids never actually managed to figure out their feelings and be genuinely happy bc it ends with each and every one of them choosing to go down the path of what they think is expected from them rather than what makes them actually happy. With them not realizing they are the ones who are supposed to write their own stories, but rather all of them break and bend themselves in order to force themselves to fit into these molds and characters even if they aren’t being true to themselves or their hearts.

And that’s the biggest tragedy of a cancelled show.

I truly still wished we had one last season. Even if it’s in the form of a book or comic book. These characters deserve closure.
