When you think about it, Rielle probably wasn’t very popular in the Coral Sea like I’ve seen a few fan works depict him as. He was probably just as much of an outsider as Azul was, he just wasn’t relentlessly bullied because no reasonable person would think it’s a good idea to bully a prince who’s dad is very protective of.
But like, Rielle was the kid with ADHD that would run off and cause trouble for everyone in doing so, talk people’s ears off about a subject literally no one had an interest in besides Rielle himself, would collect and bunch of random garbage and probably show it off to people like it was gold, and he never was interested in what everyone else was doing. No one ever said anything to him directly, but there were almost definitely gossips and whispers about him and how “annoying” he was. From time to time he’d get a snarky comment like “Don’t you ever talk about anything else?” or “Geez, late again?” but he probably brushed them off or it went over his head.
I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s some part of why Azul hates him. He calls Rielle a naive prince. Because Rielle was always clueless to how other people felt about him and how his actions were perceived by others, meanwhile Azul spent years being under direct scrutiny from his peers. He was always aware of how people felt about him, and that pain followed him all the way to high school, where he thinks of the way children would sneer at him years ago when he’s simply deciding what to have for lunch. Rielle got to live unaware, while Azul will never live unaware and he suffers for it.
But Rielle isn’t as naive as Azul believes. Yes, he is reckless, single-minded, maybe a bit stupid; but he has never been naive. He knows how people perceive him–as a child. And he hates it. Just as Azul hates all the little nicknames he was given. He knows how people perceive him and he wants to prove them wrong. And I hope he gets to prove Azul wrong too.
Adding on to this, Rielle and Azul had the perfect chance to be best friends as kids. But Rielle was likely too fixated on his love for humans/life on land to take notice of Azul and Azul probably thought Rielle would just bully him too. And now that chance has passed them by…
There's something bothering me about what Jamil said in Book 5 when they met Neige:
"Hmph. The more innocuous someone looks, the worse they're likely to act behind the scenes. That's how entertainers are."
I just hope that isn't the case with Neige, I had enough of cute or graceful faces/looking characters actually be rotten two faced schemers or psychopaths in reality, like in I'm a Villainess so I'm Taming The Final Boss, and other Korean manwhas I read about characters reincarnated into novels or games.
And if he's right I hope there is something more like the manga and anime series Tamon's B Side.
Hello again, Donanimee! 💛
So this was really interesting to think about in deep, especially since it's a worry that most of us share in relation to Neige or other RSA boys depictions!
But I agree that the cliche is very worn out, especially in this genre. You read a subversion story and sometimes it feels like you read all of them...
It's comments like these from the NRC boys that we need to remember that it's their personal interpretation of other characters actions. It immediately reminded me of Leona and Idia thinking the worst of Trey and Cater in the Heartslabyul's dreams lmao
I think we think it's true at first bc since we're accompanying the story through their eyes and in their shoulders, we tend to believe what the first narrator. But upon second analysis, we stop and go "wait... but they aren't very reliable narrators" and there's other things to consider!
Especially coming from Jamil. As much as I love the snake boy <3, Book 4 is basically Jamil trying to run for the Oscars lol So it's likely that he expects Neige to be two-faced not only bc, let's be honest, it's understandably common behind the scenes stuff, but also because it's a behavior he's very familiar with.
There's two things in life:
people with problems will immediately clock someone else's problem bc they went through the same stuff and it's familiar to them ("It takes a thief to catch a thief");
or they will think the things they do are common to other people, out of a need to feel "normal" and that their behavior isn't necessarily wrong bc "everybody does it, so I'm not a outlier".
Because Book 5 is focused on Pomefiore but Yuu gets help from Scarabia, it's natural that those little details about Kalim and Jamil will pop up more frequently. But it's mostly that. We see this behavior with other boys assuming the worst of each other, especially if they aren't really close to begin with.
It's the case with Idia & Leona bad mouthing Cater and Trey. They expect them to use Riddle to get a better life in Heartslabyul but secretly wanting something more... because it's what they would do in that situation. We know is not the case for Cater and Trey and later, we'll shown to be right.
Getting back to Neige...
We're all still anxious about RSA portrayal bc Twst can always do a 180 when we least expect it but, at the same time, I don't think that is likely to happen. My typical "I mean, it can happen but maybe it won't" lmao
It's difficult to pin point following the Eye Theory many anime/mangas follow bc, as you pointed out in the case of many villainesses stories, the two-faced heroine is also drawn with big eyes (which is a common sign of innocence but can be subverted in the flip of a scene).
Neige has big eyes but he closes them a lot, mostly as a nod to Snow White's closing her eyes a lot. Rielle does the same thing actually but in the two cases, I chalk it to another trope that cute characters close their eyes when they're enjoying or appreciating something. And they immediately open their eyes again too!
From Rielle and Minajael's portrayal until now tho, I think Twst is still more likely to go with a nuanced writing for RSA students, similar to the NRC boys. They had the chance to make Mina be stuck in his frustrations with Rielle but instead, he was mature and realized what he did wrong (and Rielle will possibly go through that as well, I feel).
So even if Neige has a little shadow in his eyes, it could probably be for other things that they'll show us in the future. It's already stated that Neige wanted to be a little more confident like Vil but he doesn't say that with envy, more like being sad with himself.
I discussed back in my predictions about how I'm very interested in the view of Neige wanting to try something else, be different for once, and have a moment to take on the very difficult things he probably went through. But the reality is that he comes with quite a lot of possibilities!
Other thing is that looking back at Snow bc yes, she's pure hearted but she has her little sassy moments lol Looking forward for that as well! Ofc with that, comes the fear of the cliche. But honestly they couldn't ever make me hate Neige, whatever route they go with him <3
Thanks for the ask, Donanimee! The reply got a bit long but it's necessary, especially with this topic lol 💛

saying this as a lesbian who loves women's boobs--sexually, even! but i don't think that we as a society should consider breasts inherently female or inherently sexual. a flat chest should not be seen as the "default" for gender neutrality but instead just one way a person can present. boobs should be normal. anyone of any gender can have boobs
you may be familiar with disney twisted wonderland, the gacha game in which various disney villains are used as direct inspiration for handsome anime boys. well that game was so successful that disney is trying to do it again but this time they're just animeboyifying whatever
here's mickey, goofy, donald, and chip & dale. yeah they turned mickey & friends into anime boys. they're an idol unit or something. they're technically not anime boy versions of the source characters, they have different names. mickey's guy is "Neo Michel". not michael, michel, like he's french. chip & dale are "Ruska Moncrief" and "Ranka Monk", they have different last names, they're not brothers anymore so that they can be yaoibait instead, anyways this post isn't actually about these guys I'm just setting the stage for the actual humanizations I wanted to show you
They also did monsters inc. And. Well it's obvious from the designs who mike and sully are. but you will also notice. the blonde one on the left. with glasses. monsters inc is kind of famously about just the two guys so they didn't really have a lot of other non-villain characters to take anime boys inspiration from, I guess, so, well,
Yeah it's her. they made an anime boy version of the mean receptionist slug. her name is roz btw, as all of boygachagame twitter has become extremely aware of in the past 3 days as we speculated prior to the release of the full image who tf the third guy was. the anime boy's name is "noah slugger". at this point no parody of the types of things gacha games will make gijinkas of will ever be able to live up to what disney is officially spending their own real money on designing
HEHEHEHE I KNOW ABT THIS!! the game's called sparklink stars, but i probably wont play it because the company that is in charge of the game has stated openly that they use AI for the creative process (which, may not mean they use AI for everything, but im skeptical to support it because of that) but the designs are really cute!! disney finally understands its target audience i trust /silly
No comment whatsoever, does this look like silver? And can you tell this is my persephone design of him?no?..ok..Man i dunno, i just wanna have an excuse to draw him like this (was gonna put this and my other art on the fic im working with rn)
Btw baby's first time posting here, kinda nervssss (i mainly post on tiktok)
