"what do you say to getting out of here and seeing what we can get into?"
@shxfting
"You know, I don't really miss being human, but sometimes it's nice to have thumbs again."
"I'm still stuck on the fact that you sometimes have thumbs. And that you let Ambrose find out before me."
what a statement. the kind it takes him a moment of contemplation to consider. "i think we all know how to love. i think i know the cost of love more than the average person. but i think you know the cost of it, too." maybe they all do. he knows what al and lina have gone through. florian and mikha have been more reserved, but he suspects they've both lost their fair share. "sometimes love is a gamble."
maybe he shouldn't have said anything. maybe that's one of the things that you learn should be kept to yourself when you get to socialize and live in society at large and not in a cell with your brother, but maybe it's not as bad a misstep as he thought. it's his turn to consider what to say next. he always feels so bold when he starts these conversations, but never enough to truly go for it. "i think the gamble is more when you care if it's returned or not. i think...it's not so big a risk to love someone, it's riskier to share that feeling."
ah fuck. he should have known there was someone or something nearby. he would have known if it was a cosmic horror, but the fae are something else entirely and his magic isn't tuned to them in the same way. is this stranger helpful? fifty-fifty shot. well... maybe more like sixty-forty, not in amir's favor. "it could be better, but i'm sure it will work out eventually. do you happen to know where the court of fortunes is from here?"
it's a relief when the stranger asks about the court of fortunes. at least that means he wasn't looking to find them or take advantage of the spring. "i know the general direction, but not the exact route. i don't get out much," he says in way of an apology. "if my sister was here, she'd get you there no problem, but she's away somewhere. i can try my best to get you on the right path, at least." probably not as comforting or confident as he wants to sound. why'd rhiannon have to pick a time like this to be gone?
"we do. and considering we're all more than capable of being just as decietful as mortals, lies aren't a worry. if the crown princess is half as smart as i think she is, she'll use her brother's ability to lie well when she takes the throne." he doesn't really care about the politics of it all. never has. but he thinks kavi could be an excellent piece in nari's arsenal. "fair point. it would reduce mine, too, though i'm sure not as much as their parents."
"having someone who can lie like that so close to the throne certainly would be useful. probably as dangerous as it is useful, though." she can only imagine all the things fiadh would do if she had someone like that in her court. she supposes liadan should thank her lucky stars she was promised to her mother's court before they knew she could lie. she'd have never gotten out otherwise. "i suppose that might also depending on the parent though?"
"she's well-mannered, at least." if riona had wandered off, he'd be much more worried about her offending faeries she doesn't know. she seems to have a knack for it. but the rest of them are good at playing the games, pretending to be polite. "gods help any mortals who encounter her, though." he won't step in for that, unless this woman claims the mortal in question is important. otherwise, it's just better to let esme find fun where she can. "...i appreciate the help."
"if she's well-mannered, i don't think there's much to worry about." they both know to be respectful and not to do anything that'll cause issues for the rest of the court. it's unclear how much of an issue this would be and hawthorn's hoping she doesn't have to find out. "we don't have many of those wandering around, so definitely nothing to worry about there." she can't remember the last time there's been a mortal that the family would've deemed important enough to step in on behalf of. "it's not much, really. and it's not entirely selfless."

âI think you know how to love better than any of us. Thatâs why you find it all so painful.â
Amir
He's lost. In the worst possible place to be lost. Why Maya insisted on living here will never make any sense to him. Of course, deciding to go visit her without warning is on him. Booker and Jade are going to have endless questions if they track him and discover he's gone to the fae realm. Question he has negative interest in answering.
He sighs. "What a fucking mess."
Gareth doesnât like visitors. He especially doesnât like uninvited visitors. It doesnât matter how many times his siblings tell him not everyone is a threat or to be more trusting in the powers that be. They can keep their positive beliefs and heâll keep his skepticism and the court will be safe. He watches the man as he moves and debates making his presence known, but decides itâs for the best to do. âEverything alright?â he asks, even though heâs sure the answer is that itâs not. Mess and alright generally donât go hand in hand.
idk if itâs gonna stay but i changed my icon bc why is that man so fucking pretty
iâm off tomorrow and my only plans are to relax sooooooo like this for some fluffy cuteness.

she narrows her eyes but decides itâs better if she doesnât respond. she probably shouldnât risk destroying her familyâs relationship with another court. âthatâs ignoring that easier for me means easier for you. because if you think iâm being difficult right now, i promise i can be much, much worse.â
"oh, darling, don't underestimate me. i've turned making problems for people into an art. i can be just as difficult. we can turn it into a whole game where no one wins. maybe that would be fun."
the way he calls her darling makes her skin crawl but she knows better than to admit it. sheâs sure thatâd only make him use the pet name more. she takes a deep breath and softens her expression, hoping she looks defeated and ready to make nice. he wants to talk about underestimating? sheâll show him. âmaybe i was being unfairâŚwhy donât we start again?â
I hate living on a main road bc what do you mean I was finally chilling almost all the way asleep and then BAM a fuckass car goes bar and wakes me up and now Iâm wide awake and anxious?!????
âmaybe thatâs because you donât know anyone whoâs actually clever,â she retorts. itâs certainly not her best comeback, but sheâs frazzled. âwhy? wouldnât it just be easier for you to say yes? then i wouldnât have to handle anything.â
"well, i know you and it seems that you're not clever, so maybe you're onto something," he counters. "it would be easier for you. not for me. so... no."

âyou think youâre so clever, donât you? speaking multiple languages and being an absolute prick in all of them.â
"oh, i don't think i'm clever. i know it." most of his family would say it's their least favorite trait about him. makes him more dangerous. "i think you need to hear no a little more often, if this is how you're handling it."

âwhat do you mean ânoâ? you canât just say no to me.â
"can and did. would you like me to say it again? no. nope. nu-uh. nil. non. nein. nix. i might be able to keep going, but i think i'm running out of languages."
